Porosity development in Pennsylvanian core from Table Mesa and Rattlesnake Fields, northwestern New Mexico

Culpepper, Jonathan David 02 May 2009 (has links)
Table Mesa and Rattlesnake Fields are located on the Four Corners Platform, New Mexico, between the Paradox Basin to the north and San Juan Basin to the south. Diagenesis is extensive and includes partial dissolution and replacement of ooids, partial silicification of allochems and matrix, and filling of pore space with large, blocky calcite. Pore types include interparticle, intraparticle, and vuggy, with much porosity lost to late cementation. Porosity is greatest in cycles interpreted as regressive deposits with meteoric and burial diagenesis being most significant to porosity enhancement. Sea level and depositional history are shown to be significantly useful in predicting patterns of porosity development and destruction. These results are directly applicable to other economically important carbonate platforms.

Lacroix, Constance 15 March 2013 (has links)
This work is intended to make a French audience better acquainted with the work of the little-known Jacobite writer Jane Barker through a translation and study of her threefold novelistic attempt, viz The Amours of Bosvil and Galesia, also known as Love Intrigues, A Patch-Work Screen for the Ladies and The Lining of the Patch-Work Screen. The translation aims at preserving the specificity of the textsthrough a language reminiscent of XVIIIth century French. The contextualizationinitiated in the notes on the text, which is a prerequisite for the translation, is carried further in a commentary which offers first an overview of Jane Barker’s life (1652- 1732) and posthumous existence in XXth century criticism, then an analysis of each of her narratives. Paying due attention to the manuscript base of the cycle, the sources and keys of which can be traced back to Jane Barker’s former, and still privately circulated, work as a manuscript poetess, this study outlines the intellectual involvement and ideological significance, as well as formal ingenuity, of a series of texts which have for too long been considered as mere journeyman’s work by a onetime amateur, merely seeking to establish her respectability as a professional woman writer. Questioning Jane Barker’s image as a self-proclaimed daughter of the chaste Orinda, the study focuses on the evolution of multi-layered discourse, which weaves together personal meditations, pro-Stuart pleas and a partisan agenda in a fruitful interaction between emerging narrative codes and a subversive ideology.

Signal processing for corrosion assessment in pipelines with ultrasound PIG using matched filter.

Canales, Ramon Vieira 30 April 2010 (has links)
This work describes the development of an algorithm to evaluate the degree of corrosion in pipeline walls, using ultrasound. The developed algorithm will be implemented in a dedicated digital circuit that can be embedded in ultrasonic pigs for pipeline corrosion inspection. The algorithm is based on the mathematic model known as matched filter, besides a peak detection method for the location of ultrasound echoes, originated from the signal reflections in the pipeline walls. One problem is the determination of the signal (and filter) that should be used, but using a signal design approach a large number of possibilities could be analyzed and only a few was tested in experiments. Finally, the best signals were used to inspect a test specimen made of a corroded pipeline section, and the results were analyzed. The first wall detection shows promising results when compared to the results of a three-dimensional inspection of the same walls. It was possible to reconstruct the profile of the internal wall with good likelihood, even at badly corroded areas. The second wall detection shows some satisfactory results on low corrosion levels, but show some problems with high corrosion levels, compromising the direct measurement of the wall of the pipeline.

Classification of ultrasonic signals using machine learning to identify optimal frequency for elongation control : Threaded fastening tools

Bahy, Mazen January 2022 (has links)
Studying the preload in a screw joint has been the focus of today’s industry. The manufacturer reflects that demand by investigating different opportunities and techniques to develop this area. There are four different ways of controlling the tightening of bolts and joints to achieve the required clamp force that can hold for a specific preload. Torque control, angle control, gradient control, and ultrasonic clamp-force or elongation control. Many studies do exist about the first three mentioned techniques. However, there are a small number of studies for the ultrasonic clamp-force technique, and there is no study focusing on the usage of machine learning in that technique. This study investigates the use of machine learning to find the optimal frequency used to transmit the ultrasonic signals into the bolt for calculating the bolt elongation. Two machine learning models have been constructed, presenting two approaches: one for one-dimensional data (1D-CNN) and one for two-dimensional data (2D-CNN). The models classify the received signals (echos) with different frequencies into either accepted or non-accepted signals to get the optimal frequencies to be used later on, in the bolt elongation process. Both the 1D-CNN and 2D-CNN show an accepted performance of around 85% accuracy. The results indicate that there does exist a pattern in these ultrasonic signals that are useful for classifying them into accepted and non-accepted frequencies, so the usage of machine learning for the problem is feasible.
