Skizzen und Planungen, die Rekonstruktion seines Buchbesitzes und eine aufwändige 3DAnimation führen Ideen, Interessen, Entwürfe und architektonische Projekte des Dresdner Hofbaumeisters vor Augen.

Die „Virtuelle Bibliothek Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann“ ist als Bücherverzeichnis mit beigefügten Weblinks zu digitalisierten historischen Druckwerken konzipiert und spiegelt die einstige, im Original verlorene Privatbibliothek des bekannten Dresdner Barockbaumeisters wieder. Die Erarbeitung erfolgte 2013/14 im Teilprojekt-Team der TU Dresden innerhalb des European Network of Baroque Cultural Heritage (ENBaCH). 2017 ist die Virtuelle Bibliothek im Rahmen des an der TU Dresden angesiedelten Fritz-Thyssen-Forschungsprojekts Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann (1662-1736): Die Schloss- und Zwingerplanungen für Dresden. Planen und Bauen im „modus Romanus“ hinsichtlich der transkribierten Buchtitel und der weiterführenden Verlinkungen aktualisiert worden.

The „Virtual Library Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann“ is planned as a book index with attached weblinks to digitized historical printed works and reflects the former, in original lost private library of the famous baroque architect in Dresden. The index was developed in 2013/14 by the subproject-team of the TU Dresden within the European Network of Baroque Cultural Heritage (ENBaCH). In 2017 the virtual library has been brought up-to-date with regard to the transcribed book titles and the additional weblinks within the context of the Project Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann (1662-1736): Die Schloss- und Zwingerplanungen für Dresden. Planen und Bauen im “modus romanus” of the TU Dresden, supported by the Fritz-Thyssen-Stiftung.

Wer den Namen Wackerbarth hört, denkt in der Regel an Sekt, vielleicht auch an das Schloss, selten jedoch an den Reichsgrafen von Wackerbarth − sein Wirken als Militär, Diplomat, Baumeister und Kunstsammler. Den Höhepunkt seiner militärischen Karriere bildet die Ernennung zum Generalfeldmarschall und sein Wirken als militärischer Chef des Zeithainer Lustlagers. Ab 1685 ist er Generalintendant des Bauwesens in Dresden. Unter Wackerbarth als Auftraggeber und Knöffel als Architekt entstehen mehrere, zum Teil heute noch erhaltene Objekte in und um Dresden. Dazu zählen die drei Gartenanlagen Großsedlitz, Wackerbarths Ruh und Zabeltitz. / Normally when people hear the name Wackerbarth, they think of sparkling wine, or perhaps also of the castle in Radebeul. Rarely does anyone think of Count von Wackerbarth in relation to his activities as a soldier, diplomat, architect and art collector. The high point of his military career came with his appointment as Field Marshal General and his role as Chief of the Zeithainer Lustlager military showground. From 1685 onwards he was Director of Construction in Dresden. With Wackerbarth as commissioner and Johann Christoph Knöffel as architect, a number of major construction projects were completed in and around Dresden. Several of these, such as the gardens at Großsedlitz, Wackerbarths Ruh and Zabeltitz, have survived until today.

This study performs a critical analysis of the representation of Afrikaner and British masculinity in the first season of the South African War (1899-1902) television series Arende (1989-1993). The study first identifies key concepts in both western identity and masculinity and then moves on to build an historical theoretical base from which season one is analysed. This theoretical base is created through the assimilation of historical sources dealing with masculinity and masculine events from both the Afrikaners and the British. In order to provide a suitable foundation for the investigation into masculinity, the study first briefly explores the concept of identity and how it manifests in both the Afrikaner and British society represented in the first season of Arende. This was done by using a psychological model designed by Roy F Baumeister (1986) which involves both individual and societal identity. Identity as a social construct is also investigated, and the question why identity matters in society is discussed Arguments for a structuralist semiotic approach to identity in a particular society are presented. In dealing with the overview of dominant western masculinity a number of key terms were identified and discussed. These include patriarchy, the female body and masculine control, social labelling, gender order and ‘women watching,’ the family unit, division of labour and public and private space, hegemonic masculinity and the male hero. After this overview, the study conducted an assimilation exercise into historic Afrikaner and British masculinity during the time before and after the South African War. This discussion centres on a number of points dealing with both societies, namely the model male, male military tradition, masculine rebels/outcasts and other masculine issues, and male relations with women. The final part of this study involves the analysis of the masculine theory, generated in the previous chapter, on the Arende text.
