Estudos biológicos e moleculares de begomovirus infectando pimentão (Capsicum annuum) no Estado de São Paulo /

Nozaki, Denise Nakada, 1972- January 2007 (has links)
The whitefly is disseminated throughout the country. In São Paulo State, 2005, pepper plants showing fruits deformations, and mosaic on the leaves were infected by begomovirus. Until then in Brazil, the infection of begomovirus in pepper was only reported in 1997, in Pernambuco and Bahia States. Pepper plants were collected in Paranapanema, Piraju, Alvinlândia, Ubirajara, Elias Fausto, Mogi Guaçu, Paulínia and Botucatu, in the period of November of 2004 to May of 2006, with the aim to study the genetic variability of the begomovirus infecting this culture. The begomovirus were detected by PCR using universal oligonucleotídeos and the coat protein region was sequenced. On the total of 228 samples, they were found 30 positive samples of begomovírus, and sequences of 23 isolated presented nucleotides identies of 98 to 100% with Tomato severe rugose virus (ToSRV), while two isolates, one of Alvinlândia and another of Mogi Guaçu, showed identity highest nucleotide (98 and 95% respectively) with the tentative species Tomato yellow vein streak virus (ToYVSV). The nucleotide sequence of the DNA-A of ToSRV[PJU] from pepper cv. Lilac of Pirajú has 99% nucleotide identies with other isolate of ToSRV (DQ207749) collected from pepper and 97% with an isolate of ToSRV (AY029750) from tomato. The sequence of the DNA-B revealed identity of 98% with the DNA-B of ToRMV (AF291706) from Triângulo Mineiro, Minas Gerais and 95% with ToSRV (AY029751). Sap-transmission was verified for Nicandra physaloides and pepper ‘Magda' using infected N. benthamiana as source. By whitefly the virus was transmitted to Lycopersicum esculentum... Modes of Power: Time, Temporality, and Calendar Reform by Jesuit Missionaries in Late Imperial China

Blasingame, Ryan S 11 May 2013 (has links)
This work explores the relationship between time, temporality, and power by utilizing interactions between Jesuit missionaries and the Ming and Qing governments of late imperial China as a case study. It outlines the complex relationship between knowledge of celestial mechanics, methods of measuring the passage of time, and the tightly controlled circumstances in which that knowledge was allowed to operate. Just as the Chinese courts exercised authority over time and the heavens, so too had the Catholic Church in Europe. So as messengers of God’s authority, the Jesuits identified the importance of astronomical and temporal authority in Chinese culture and sought to convey the supremacy of Christianity through their mastery of the stars and negotiate positions of power within both imperial governments.

"All Mankind is of One Author, and is One Volume" : An examination of commitment and abandonment in Ernest Hemingway's For Whom the Bell Tolls

Lööf Larsson, Jacob January 2013 (has links)
This essay examines commitment and abandonment structured as two binary opposites informing For Whom the Bell Tolls. The intention behind this structuring is to highlight Hemingway’s message of the novel, set forth by the epigraph by Donne; everyone is part of mankind and every death diminishes everyone equally. The consistent structuring of characters can be seen by the fact that everyone who is committed, loyal and honest is punished while the reverse is true for people who abandon, desert and betray. The one exception to this is Pilar who, because of the role as a liberated woman given to her by Hemingway, is not included in this general categorization.

Mercier, Jessica 08 1900 (has links) (PDF)
