CHARACTERIZING MUSCUPIABIT (CA-SBR-425/H) AND ITS PLACE IN THE GREATER SERRANO SETTLEMENT SYSTEM

Grenda, Robert D 01 June 2017 (has links)
First excavated in 1938, the site of Muscupiabit (CA-SBR-425/H) has long been a subject of archaeological research in the San Bernardino Mountains. Previous excavations at the site have either been unpublished or limited in scope. A primary goal was to obtain a radiocarbon date for the site, giving a definitive age to the site. Other goals included determining the population size of Muscupiabit as well as the function of the site and its place in the Serrano settlement system. To obtain dateable material, an excavation was conducted in hopes of locating a thermal feature. An intact thermal feature was found and charcoal was recovered. In order to adequately address the proposed research questions, museum collections were used to gain a larger sample size. A large quantity of artifacts had been excavated in the 1980s but were never analyzed. Between those excavations and the 2017 excavations, 7 units were analyzed. Additionally, population records from the Spanish mission system were analyzed to address research questions about population size. Based on a radiocarbon date, shell bead types, and population records, it appears that Muscupiabit was occupied in the late 17th/early 18th century and was likely abandoned by 1815. Despite its location along a trade route, the site does not appear to have been controlling trade. Muscupiabit was intermarried with other villages but it’s level of political independence cannot be determined at this time.

Seeks to understand the implementation of the School Group Bernardino Monteiro in the city Itapemirim and place of Physical Education that began to form as a discipline in capixaba schooling. Aims to investigate the discourses, practices and processes of the constituent school group model and the devices to be incorporated into the physical education with scholarly knowledge of that institution. The stages of this study is between the years 1908 and 1925, when the presidents of the Holy Spirit were Itapemirim. The sources used in the investigation were the books from libraries and municipal archives, documents of the State Public Archives, printed "The Cachoeirano", interviews and pictures about the school group. By analyzing the research object by its shape, organization, structure and devices chooses to adopt, as a theoretical basis, some authors like Micheal de Certeau, Roger Chartier and Carlo Ginzburg, which help to problematize the narratives ever produced about the History of Education the Holy Spirit through the theory of Cultural History. The Group School Bernardino Monteiro represented a breakthrough in the education plan of the city, as well as contributed to the urbanization and cachoeirense social imaginary. On practices that produced the school environment, this research highlights the problematizations made around activities such as scouting, practice introduced and perceived that somehow replaced the physical education and gymnastics at the school, in the 1910s and 1920s . Was observed at scouting, the implementation of an education that was intended to serve the Republican panorama , with actions that are aimed at the regeneration, the moralization of customs and modernization of the city through civility and patriotic feelings of the students.

Affirmative action, quotas and hiring in San Bernardino County school districts

Goss, Margaret Elizabeth 01 January 1995 (has links)
Affirmative action, more strongly than ever before in the history of its existence as a viable approach to bringing minorities and women into work force populations, has been called into question. Much rhetoric has been spent on whether or not minorities and women have made measurable gains because of such approaches and whether or not such approaches in themselves constitute unfairness. The major focus of this study was to examine certificated staff employment gains or losses for Blacks, Hispanics and women in eleven school districts over a five year period.
