Beståndshantering på antikvariat : Klassifikation, hylluppställning och exponering / Handling of collection at antiquarian booksellers : Classification, shelving and exposure

Esbjörnsson, Susanne January 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to examine the classification, shelf arrangement and display of documents in antiquarianbookshops and see the reasons behind these. The results willbe compared with previous reviews of alternative shelfarrangement in Swedish public libraries, to see whatdifferences and similarities there are in the classification andshelf arrangement between antiquarian booksellers andlibraries. The questions to be answered were: (1)What formsof classification and shelf arrangement are used inantiquarian bookshops and how does it differ from theclassification and shelf arrangement made in libraries withan alternative shelf arrangement? (2)What exposure ofdocuments are there in the various antiquarian bookshops? Isthere anything regarding the exposure that differs betweenthe antiquarian bookshops and the libraries? An idea andideology analysis of various dimensions is used as atheoretical tool during the work. The dimensions were: (1)Shelf arrangement: It is important that customers/borrowerscan find themselves - it is important that staff know wherethe documents are. (2) Exposure: Important to sales/turnover- does not affect sales/turnover. The methodology used wasliterature studies and interviews with antiquarian bookshops. The result shows differences in terms of classification in theantiquarian bookshops. Shelf arrangement is more consistentand above all based on the readers-interest arrangement. Themajor factor behind classification and shelf arrangement is toenable the customers to locate what they are looking for.Factors that lead to an alternative shelf arrangement in alibrary were for example trendiness, convenience for thepublic and exposure. Exposure is in most cases seen asimportant. One suggestion for further research is to conducta larger study. / Program: Bibliotekarie

E-böcker till låns : En fallstudie från ett folkbibliotek / Lending e-books : A case study from a public library

Molker, Klara January 2022 (has links)
The purpose of this case study is to investigate and analyse the e-book management at a public library. The library organisation was making agreements with a new e-book aggregator in 2019 and hence it is interesting to examine why the library decided to replace the old agreement. Furthermore, the study investigates what differences the new agreement has made for the e-book collection management and the lending service at the library. The empirical material from interviews and document collection was analysed through thematic qualitative content analysis and then analysed from an institutional theory perspective. The study examines how a certain library organisation, as part of an institute, is dealing with new demands and challenges in the field. The essay describes which laws and directions control and impact the e-book management at the public library-organisation investigated. It also maps out the reason behind the shift of e-book providers. The main reason for that was technical difficulties with the e-books and the app. The study also concludes impacts that the shift has made to e-book management and lending at the public library in this case. The shift to a new e-book supplier has led to satisfactions among the interviewed and the e-book lending at the library has increased significantly. There are now fewer technical issues reported to the library concerning the e-books and the number of app users has increased.
