Kan historia spela roll? - Rollspel som undervisningsmetod i historieundervisning på gymnasiet

Kaspersson, Ann-Sofi January 2008 (has links)
Resultatet visar att rollspel i vissa delar passar in i pedagogiska teorier.

Evaluation of eutrophication indicators for reservoirs in Taiwan

Tsay, Fwu-shoei 13 August 2007 (has links)
Reservoirs are the main drinking water sources in Taiwan. However, about half of 23 reservoirs suffer the eutrophication problems based on the calculated Carlson¡¦s TSI indexes for them. Thus, the reservoir water is seriously polluted. Chen-Ching Lake Reservoir, Fengshan Reservoir, and A-Kong-Tien Reservoir are three major reservoirs that supply water for the domestic, industrial, and agricultural uses in the Kaohsiung area. Due to the long-term sediment deposition at A-Kong-Tien Reservoir, a sediment dredge system is under construction at this reservoir. Thus, only Chen-Ching Lake Reservoir and Fengshan Reservoir play the most important roles in water supply at this moment. However, both Chen-Ching Lake Reservoir and Fengshan Reservoir are in the list of the most eutrophized reservoirs. There are several ways to evaluate the status of eutrophication of reservoirs. The single-index method and multi-variable modeling method are two of the most commonly methods for water quality analysis and eutrophication evaluation for the reservoirs in Taiwan. Based on the analytical results from previous studies, eutrophication results in the fast growing of seaweeds and they spread and cover the whole water bodies, which is called algal bloom. The type of seaweed causing eutrophication in Taiwan reservoirs are mainly Cyanobacteria, especially the commonly found Microcystis. They can not only cause some foul smells but release toxins into the water bodies. That endangers the safety of drinking water and affects the normal water usage. To prevent eutrophication, the nutrients loadings outside and inside of the reservoir areas must be reduced and controlled, which can effectively prohibit the growth of seaweeds. An air-pumping system can also be built for the same purpose. Regular water quality inspection should be carried out to monitor the fluctuation of water quality.

Low Latency Stochastic Filtering Software Firewall Architecture

Ghoshal, Pritha 14 March 2013 (has links)
Firewalls are an integral part of network security. They are pervasive throughout networks and can be found in mobile phones, workstations, servers, switches, routers, and standalone network devices. Their primary responsibility is to track and discard unauthorized network traffic, and may be implemented using costly special purpose hardware to flexible inexpensive software running on commodity hardware. The most basic action of a firewall is to match packets against a set of rules in an Access Control List (ACL) to determine whether they should be allowed or denied access to a network or resource. By design, traditional firewalls must sequentially search through the ACL table, leading to increasing latencies as the number of entries in the table increase. This is particularly true for software firewalls implemented in commodity server hardware. Reducing latency in software firewalls may enable them to replace hardware firewalls in certain applications. In this thesis, we propose a software firewall architecture which removes the sequential ACL lookup from the critical path and thus decreases the latency per packet in the common case. To accomplish this we implement a Bloom filter-based, stochastic pre-classification stage, enabling the bifurcation of the predicted good and predicted bad packet code paths, greatly improving performance. Our proposed architecture improves firewall performance 67% to 92% under anonymized trace based workloads from CAIDA servers. While our approach has the possibility of incorrectly classifying a small subset of bad packets as good, we show that these holes are neither predictable nor permanent, leading to a vanishingly small probability of firewall penetration.

On The Biophysical Factors That Control Under-Ice Phytoplankton Bloom Onset in the Central Canadian Archipelago

Gale, Matthew 29 September 2014 (has links)
Sporadic reports of significant under-ice phytoplankton production indicate a critical knowledge gap of a key component of the Arctic ecosystem. In this thesis I examine the following research objectives in an effort to improve the understanding of under-ice phytoplankton production: (1) to determine the biophysical processes controlling the timing of under-ice phytoplankton production, and (2) to compare and contrast both the timing of the under-ice bloom and the controlling processes between multiple years of data. Data for objective (1) were collected during the three-year Arctic-ICE field campaign (2010-2012) near Resolute Bay, NU in the central Canadian Arctic. Additional data from the region were collected from open source databases and peer-reviewed literature for a dataset that spanned from early 1960 to the present, supporting the analysis to meet objective (2). Two separate under-ice phytoplankton blooms were observed during the three-year Arctic-ICE campaign. It was found that phytoplankton blooms conformed well to the critical depth hypothesis in the Canadian Archipelago under first-year ice, where snow and ice melt both increased light transmission and shoaled the surface mixed layer which, in turn, placed phytoplankton within a favourable light environment for positive net production underneath the ice cover. Factors such as timing of melt water drainage and water column mixing greatly affected bloom onset. From the historical analyses, I was able to show that under-ice phytoplankton blooms have regularly occurred under landfast ice from at least the 1960’s. Significant correlations between the timing of bloom onset with melt onset related variables (i.e., air temperature reaching 0 ºC and complete snow melt) suggested a strong link to climate change. In fact, the ii analysis supported that since the mid 1990s bloom onset has been occurring earlier, and is likely related to decreasing trends in day of complete snow melt, maximum ice thickness, and snow depth. Overall, this thesis has helped improve our understanding of the under-ice spring phytoplankton bloom, showing that under-ice production has been a regular occurrence in the Canadian Arctic. The results also support that timing of the spring phytoplankton blooms could be shifting earlier in response to the warming Arctic and its changing icescape. Such a shift could also have important consequences on the Arctic marine food web, influencing the transfer of energy through the food chain. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to continue future observational programs of the under-ice pelagic environment focussed on the late spring melt period to better understand how the system could change with further perturbations.

Effectiveness Of A Clinical Questioning Activity In Developing Cardiac Sonography Student Learning Levels

Newberry, Valerie Denise 01 January 2009 (has links)
AN ABSTRACT OF THE DISSERTATION OF Valerie D. Newberry, for the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Workforce Education and Development, presented on June 2, 2009, at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. TITLE: EFFECTIVENESS OF A CLINICAL QUESTIONING ACTIVITY IN DEVELOPING CARDIAC SONOGRAPHY STUDENT LEARNING LEVELS MAJOR PROFESSOR: Dr. Marcia Anderson, Ph.D. The purpose of the study was to contribute to a better understanding of learning activities used in clinical education. In particular, this study aimed to investigate whether use of a question/answer (Q/A) activity in clinical learning promoted higher levels of learning. Results of this study will be beneficial to faculty in programs with a clinical component, clinical educators, employers, and to the students who participate in the programs. The two-fold problem addressed in this research study was (a) What is the level of student learning achieved with a Q/A clinical learning activity, as perceived by clinical instructors; and (b) is the students' perceived level of learning related to student characteristics? The study included students and clinical instructors from accredited cardiac sonography programs in the United States. Demographic data revealed the students were mostly female with a mean age of 30 and varying levels of education. Experts reviewed the Q/A activity for content validity and the level of Bloom's taxonomy. The instrument was revised based on their recommendations. Program directors in 53 programs were sent requests to participate in the study and nine programs had participants who agreed to be in the study. Participants were mailed the materials and asked to complete the Q/A assignment. Clinical instructors completed a teaching module prior to giving student scores for thinking levels. The demographic sheets, consents, and score sheets were mailed back and data analysis was completed. Findings of the study suggest the Q/A activity is successful at progressively increased means in the thinking scores of students. The teaching tutorial is adequate training for the clinical instructors on the levels of Bloom's taxonomy. The level of thinking score achieved is compared to the student's age, gender, and educational level with no statistically significant difference. Recommendations for practice, further research and instrumentation are discussed.
