Bey, Anissa 14 November 2008 (has links) (PDF)

Le, Vi 17 November 2014 (has links)
This thesis consists of four chapters:Chapter 1 investigates the distribution of the coalescence time (most recent common ancestor) for two individuals picked at random (uniformly) in the current generation of a continuous time Bienaymé-Galton-Watson process. In chapter 2 we obtain a Ray-Knight representation of Feller's branching diffusion with logistic growth in terms of the local times of a reflected Brownian motion H with a drift that is affine in the local time accumulated by H at its current level.Chapter 3 considers the Feller's branching diffusion with general competition. We give precise conditions on the competition term, in order to decide whether the extinction time (which is also the height of the process) remains or not bounded as the initial population size tends to infinity, and similarly for the total mass of the process. In chapter 4 we generalize the results of chapter 3 to the case of continuous state branching process with competition which has discontinuous paths.

Application de la spectrométrie de masse COINTOF à l'étude de la dissociation de petits agrégats d'eau protonés par collision sur un atome d'argon : développement d'une cible de nano-gouttes de gaz rare / Collision induced dissociation of protaned water clusters studies with the COINTOF mass spectrometry technique : development of a target of rare gas droplets

Buridon, Victor 13 December 2013 (has links)
Enfin, un nouveau système de cible constituée de nanogouttes de gaz rares a été développé / The study of irradiation in molecular systems at the nanometer scale is an innovative field of research in radiation sciences. The DIAM set-up (Dispositif d'Irradiation d'Agrégats Moléculaires) is designed in order to observe and to characterize the consequences of radiation action on model molecular nanosystems such as protonated water clusters. Irradiation induces the fragmentation of the nanosystem in several neutral and charged fragments. The COINTOF (Correlated Ion and Neutral fragments Time of Flight) mass spectrometry techniques allows the correlated detection of the neutral and charged fragments resulting from the dissociation of a mass and velocity selected molecular system. The data processing is performed before the statistical analysis of the fragment production over a large number of fragmentation events. In parallel with the fragmentation channel identification, branching ratio and cross sections are measured with the COINTOF technique. The method is presented here for the collision induced dissociation on argon atoms of protonated water clusters H+(H2O)n, n=2-7, accelerated at 8keV. The detection efficiency, key parameter for the production of quantitative results, is measured from the set of data itself and studied as a function of the amplitude distribution of the detection signal. Finally, a new set-up for production of rare-gas nanodroplets target has been developed

Dois problemas em análise de formas de estruturas de ramificação / Two Problems in Shape Analysis of Branching Structures

Jorge de Jesus Gomes Leandro 17 July 2008 (has links)
This document describes methods and presents results from the Master of Science\'s research project in computer science entitled \"Two Problems in Shape Analysis of Branching Structures\". Both tackled problems herein are related to Shape Analysis sub-fields, namely Characterization and Description of shapes. The former problem consists of an investigation on a proposed set of features aimed at discriminating, firstly, between blood vessels branching structures manually and automatically segmented. In the sequel, the same features are used to assess their discriminative capability in distinguishing between blood vessels branching structures with and withoud proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR). The PDR is a pathology related to diabetes, which may lead to the blindness. Diagnosis is possible through optic fundus image analysis, which may allow timely interventions preventing vision loss. In this work, 27 digital optic fundus images were segmented by two distinct segmentation processes, i.e. manual segmentation carried out by an especialist and automated segmentation, through the CWT (Continuous Wavelet Transform) and statistical classifiers. In order to characterize such a shapes, a set of 8 features has been proposed. The aforementioned set was comprised of three features groups, that is: traditional geometric descriptors (Area, Perimeter and Circularity), wavelet-based descriptors (2nd statistical moment from the CWT Modulus distribution, Orientation Entropy from the CWT Phase distribution and Curvature) and a fractal descriptor (Correlation Dimension - global and median). Linear Discriminant Analysis LDA revelead that the traditional geometric features are not able to detect early proliferative diabetic retinopathy. The largest singular discriminant capability was shown by the Curvature, with area under the ROC curve of 0.76. A subset of 6 features presented a good discriminating power with area under the curve of 0.90. The second problem concerns contour extraction from 2D branching structures of 3D neurons. This work contributes with an original solution for such a problem, proposing two algorithms devised for Branches Tracking and Branching Structures Contour Extraction. The proposed algorithms are able to traverse critical regions implied by the projection of 3D structures onto a 2D image plane. Most of contour-based methods intended to shape analysis of neuronal branching structures fall short of yielding proper shape representations, owing to the presence of overlapings among neuronal processes, causing the traditional algorithms for contour following to ignore the innermost regions, thus generating incomplete representations. The proposed framework system was developed aiming at the solution of the contour extraction problem, even in the presence of multiple overlapings. The input image is pre-processed, so as to obtain an 8-connected skeleton with one-pixel wide branches, a set of seeds of dendritic sub-trees and a set of critical regions (bifurcations, crossings and superpositions). For each sub-tree, the Branches Tracking Algorithm labels all valid pixels of a branch, until reaching a critical region, where the algorithm decides about the direction to go on with the tracking. Our algorithm has shown robustness, even in images plenty of very close parallel segments. Results with real images (neurons) are presented.

The apple tree (Malus X domestica Borkh.) presents morphological and physiological anomalies when grown in mild winter climates with insufficient winter chilling to overcome winter dormancy. Symptoms are typically delayed and erratic budburst, entailing desynchronized flowering and fruitset and poor agronomic performances. This thesis aimed at gaining more insights on the following issues. Firstly, what are the effects of winter temperatures on axillary burdburst and bud outgrowth, and what are the respective effects of winter temperatures and cultivar?, and secondly, is there a link between the temperature-dependent budburst and bud water status? Works were done in France and Brazil. In France, experiments were carried out in controlled conditions on four apple cultivars characterized by either high chilling (‘Granny Smith’, ‘Royal Gala’, ‘Starkrimson’) or low chilling (‘Condessa’) requirements and were submitted to outdoor-cold and greenhouse-mild winter temperatures. We showed that the actual shoot architecture and budburst resulted from an ordered sequence of events with a pivotal role of winter temperatures on the dormancy completion of individual lateral buds. Endogenous factors related to the cultivar branching pattern overtook the temperature effect on the lateral bud outgrowth. Furthermore, the delayed senescence and subsequent leaf persistence during winter, characterizing the apple tree in the mild winter temperature conditions, had only a weak effect on the topological distribution of budburst and lateral outgrowth. The analyses of bud water status were done on distal buds only, characterized by high budburst frequency in cold winter conditions. We showed that, from endodormancy to the pre-budburst stage, xylem conductance at the stem-to-bud junction did not show consistent changes across cultivars and winter temperature treatments. Bud water potential had negative values, between -4.35 and -2.24 MPa, depending on cultivars and winter temperature treatments. Moreover, whatever the cultivar, there were no significant trends across dates for the effects of winter temperatures on bud water potential and relative water content without a consistent relationship with actual spring budburst frequency. These results suggested that lateral buds were hydraulically isolated from the parent stem during winter until a few days before budburst. The other set of experiments was carried out in Brazil, under mild winter conditions, on the low chilling apple cultivar ‘Eva’. The objectives were to gain more insights on the effect of the position of the over-wintering lateral bud along the whole-parent shoot on bud size and water content. Results highlighted that distal buds were larger and had a higher water content than proximal buds with a strong increase of water content a week before spring budburst. It was concluded that the acrotonic pattern of budburst was mainly established during ecodormancy. As a whole, we showed that spring budburst seemed more related to a whole-shoot effect than to the water status of the individual bud during winter dormancy. Our study substantiated the importance of the whole shoot as an integrated morphological and physiological unit in driving budburst and further growth.

Analyse statistique des modèles de croissance-fragmentation / Statistical analysis of growth-fragmentation models

Olivier, Adelaïde 27 November 2015 (has links)
This work is concerned with growth-fragmentation models, implemented for investigating the growth of a population of cells which divide according to an unknown splitting rate, depending on a structuring variable – age and size being the two paradigmatic examples. The mathematical framework includes statistics of processes, nonparametric estimations and analysis of partial differential equations. The three objectives of this work are the following : get a nonparametric estimate of the division rate (as a function of age or size) for different observation schemes (genealogical or continuous) ; to study the transmission of a biological feature from one cell to an other and study the feature of one typical cell ; to compare different populations of cells through their Malthus parameter, which governs the global growth (when introducing variability in the growth rate among cells for instance).

Dalitz analysis of the three-body charmless decay B0 → K0Sπ+π− with the LHCb spectrometer / Analyse de Dalitz de la désintégration en trois corps sans particule charmé B0 → K0Sπ+π− avec le spectromètre LHCb

Baalouch, Marouen 14 December 2015 (has links)
Studies of charmless three-body decays of the neutral B mesons with a K0S in the final state are presented in this thesis. The analyses are performed with the full statistics recorded by the LHCb spectrometer during the Run I of the LHC. The amplitude analysis of the decay B0→K0Sπ+π− represents the main part of this thesis analysis. A time-integrated untagged Dalitz-Plot analysis of the decay is performed. The fit fractions of the quasi-two-body decays are obtained. Likewise, the direct CP asymmetries of the quasi-two-body decays B0→K*+(892)π−, B0→K0*+(1430)π−, B0→K2*+(1430)π− and B0→f0(980)K0S are obtained. The largest sensitivity is obtained for ACP (B0→K*+(892)π−). This measurement is the first observation of the CP asymmetry with a significance larger then five standard deviations. The measurement is in agreement with the world average, with an improved precision.
