The history of aerial ropeways and cableways is reviewed. Aerial transport systems are classified according to their design differences. The construction and application of monocable and bicable ropeways are discussed. Cableways are separated into two systems- the tautline and slackline cableway. Their design and use are reviewed. The types of chair lift intermediate support tower are examined. Structural models of four types were built, strain gaged and tested. Experimental stresses are compared to theoretical prediction for each model subkected to external loads. The engineering problems involved in locating the intermediate towers of a chair lift are discussed. / Thesis / Master of Engineering (MEngr)

This thesis deals with the current situation of unconventional vehicles in public transportation in Prague. It includes historical excursion with a detailed overview and outlook for the future with proposals for improvements and expansion of these means of transport. Representatives of the category of unconventional vehicles in Prague are three cableways (to Petřín, to Mrázovka and in the zoo) and five ferries (Lahovičky - Nádraží Modřany, Kotevní -- Císařská louka -- Výtoň, Lihovar -- Veslařský ostrov, V Podbabě -- Podhoří a Sedlec -- Zámky). All five lines of ferries, as well as a funicular to Petrin, are fully integrated into the metropolitan transportation system.

The main goal of this work is to make complete project of a computer network for Less & Timber s.r.o. The project will contain all information, from the cable traces, connection units, sockets and their count.

This thesis investigates the cableway project in the city of Vsetín. The theoretical part is describing the city, it’s demographic trends and also changes in the image of the city. The practical part is dealing with the abovementioned cableway project and is divided into several parts. The introduction is focused on a multi-criteria assessment of particular options of the cableway and fallowing a multi-criteria assessment of transport services in the housing development Sychrov. The multi-criteria assessment is carried out by some of variant calculations in order to specify the importance of criteria, weighting for criterion and calculation methods. This is followed by an assessment of the efficiency of transport links by the Cost Benefit Analysis – CBA method. This method is aimed to determine the most effective way of passenger traffic and to recommend an optimal option in consideration of not only incomes but also costs and contribution to beneficiaries, which are an important part of public projects.

Social sustainability provides a meaningful approach for industry practitioners wishing to establish a platform to engage communities within enterprise development. It can be said that sustainability requires much more than environmental and fiscal achievements and, with an increased awareness of issues such as equity and power sharing, more corporates are incorporating their strategies in line with social responsibility values. This study therefore takes a closer look at how the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company, integrates this important concept of social sustainability in its business practices. The tourism industry has in fact grown to such an extent that global economists estimate the progress of international growth at between three and six percent annually. However, this growth can only be measured when businesses take social responsibility factors into consideration. According to the UNWTO (2011, p 1) UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon, opened the Fourth UN Conference on Least Developed Countries stating that the majority of: “…least developed countries (LDCs) are rich in resources. All have young and vibrant populations. These men and women need decent jobs, education, training, so they can make the most of their country’s assets - minerals and other commodities, farmland, rich stores of biodiversity and tourism potential”. This study therefore focuses on current and future issues pertaining to socially sustainable tourism at the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company in Cape Town, South Africa. In addition, it presents solutions for reducing the negative impacts of tourism, whilst at the same time embracing the benefits of tourism for the area and its local communities. The outcome of the study found that the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company added little value to social responsibility objectives. The company has made a significant effort in marketing their product through the mass media. However, there is an overall corporate responsibility barrier. Much still needs to be done to ensure accountability for social responsibility issues, not just within this particular company, but also throughout the tourism industry. / Environmental Sciences / M.
