The composition of the political classes and the functioning of party organizations were and continue to be systematically analyzed by scholars who seek to contribute to the development of the area. Nevertheless, it is interesting to note the existence of very imprecise aspects when issues related to the formation of political elites and the exercise of intraparty activities are addressed. By accepting the party statutes as possible explanatory variables of the candidature selection processes, the main objective of this dissertation was to verify to what extent the norms defined by the statutory documents are reflected in the profiles of the candidates that are, in fact, selected. To that end, the adopted cut turned to the nominations to compete for the position of mayor in the city of Goiânia in the municipal elections of the year 2016. Methodologically, the analysis was organized as a case study and was based on the structure proposed by Hazan and Rahat (2001; 2006), which listed some criteria of inclusiveness about the selection of candidates perceived from aspects present in the party's own statutes. In addition, candidates profiles were observed based on information provided by the Tribunal Superior Eleitoral. Thus, data collection and analysis allowed us to state that, without disregarding sociocultural factors and local political dynamics, statutory norms can be considered as one of the dimensions capable of influencing the results of candidature selection processes.

Funeral Service Employers' Perceptions of Body Art and Hireability

Scotece, Tanya E. 20 November 2015 (has links)
The purpose of this research was to determine whether there were biases among funeral home and cemetery professionals with regards to hiring mortuary science graduates with tattoos. An anonymous survey including a photograph of either a male or female with various degrees of visible body art, ranging from none to extreme, was sent to 1484 members of the International Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Association. The primary methodology used to determine whether biases existed regarding visible body art were a semantic differential and a hireability scale. The survey was designed to gather information related to the following three research questions: 1. What are employers’ perceptions regarding hireability of individuals based on extent of visible body art? 2. Are there differences in the employers’ perceptions regarding visible body art based on the gender of the individuals in the photographs? 3. What are the differences in perceptions regarding visible body art based on respondent age, gender, and their own extent of visible body art? Of the surveys distributed, responses totaled 151. Due to incomplete information, 74 were discarded. The number of surveys used in the analysis was 77. Results indicated no specific biases of employers' perception towards potential hirees with body art. These results were based on multiple categories, including age and gender of respondent, extent of body art of respondent, and respondent position within their companies. Although the responses were neutral and showed no significant bias towards hirees with body art, mortuary science students should be aware of potential biases of the families served by the funeral homes, including age of the deceased and family members, as well as the conservative nature of the funeral profession.

Pentecostalismo, eleições e representação política no Brasil contemporâneo / Pentecostalism, elections and political representation in contemporary Brazil

Fábio Lacerda 31 March 2017 (has links)
This thesis investigates the recent political-electoral mobilization of Evangelicals in Brazil. Its aim is to analyze certain assumptions found in the literature on Evangelical (and specially Pentecostal) growth and its political impact in Brazil and Latin America. These assumptions concern the relationship established between Evangelical politicians and voters; the growth of Evangelical presence in Brazilian legislatures; the electoral «force» of Evangelical candidates and Pentecostal churches; and the support of Evangelical voters to candidates who signal the same religion. In order to achieve this objective, the thesis is based on a review of the relevant literature, the construction of a new database of Evangelical candidacies for the Brazilian legislatures (1998-2014) and the conducting of a survey experiment with undergraduate students from the city of São Paulo. The data are analyzed through descriptive statistics, OLS regression models and logistic regression models. The results reveal a more complex picture of Evangelical political activity than the literature usually presumes. The statements about the supposed clientelistic performance of Evangelical legislators, if not necessarily mistaken, do not find support in the law making of the state of São Paulo. Between 1998 and 2014, the number of Evangelical candidates to the Chamber of Deputies and to the Legislative Assemblies increased in absolute terms, but remained relatively stable. The number of elected Evangelicals has increased in the period, but remains below the proportion of Evangelicals in the Brazilian population. Evangelical deputies are increasingly coming from Pentecostal churches that adopt the model of corporate representation. The support of these churches to their \"official candidates\" has a positive effect on their electoral performance even if controlling for factors such as campaign spending, incumbency, party, among others. However, despite assumptions of unrestricted support from the faithful to candidates from their churches, the electoral success of Pentecostal churches is lesser than what is asserted. Finally, the use of religious cues by Evangelical candidates only has a positive effect on Evangelical voters conditioned by the size of the candidates\' offer. On the other hand, it has a negative effect on other religious groups, especially in a scenario with only two candidates.

Registrace kandidátů na úřad prezidenta republiky / "Registration of Candidates for the Office of the President of the Czech Republic".

Vodehnal, Ondřej January 2015 (has links)

Supervision in Every Breath: Enacting Zen in an Elementary Education Teacher Program

Haberlin, Steven R. 18 June 2019 (has links)
The field of teacher education is in tumultuous times. Criticisms and questions about teacher preparation have led to calls for reform, including grounding teacher preparation programs in clinically rich experiences. Responsible for preparing these teachers, university- based supervisors are under added pressure to provide opportunities that connects theoretical knowledge with field experience. Complicating matters, views of supervision continue to evolve and remain divided, creating uncertainty over how to best approach the role. In light of these challenges, I argue in this study that current conceptions of supervision need to be reevaluated and expanded by entertaining new views, namely those from outside of traditional Western perspectives. For instance, scholars (Burns, Jacobs, & Yendol-Hoppey, 2018; Glanz, 1995; Tremmel, 1993) have referenced Eastern philosophies of Taoism and Zen Buddhism as ways to improve supervision practices. To more deeply explore this line of thinking, I studied the enactment of Zen Buddhist constructs within my role of supervising teacher candidates in a clinically rich teacher program. Using a spiritual self-study methodology, I collected data through journaling, field notes, surveying candidates, and candidate artifacts, such as lesson plans and observation reflections. I analyzed data through meditative writings and mindful coding practices. Eight findings, or “awakenings,” emerged from the analysis, including experiencing anxiety as a I became more mindful of my supervision practices, experiencing a flow state during supervision, feeling more connected with triad members, and noticing an enhancement of the observation cycle through deep listening and other mindfulness techniques. Implications from the study include Zen assisting in developing a state of mind that enables supervisors to flow more seamlessly between tasks and functions, manage the stresses of the function and role, and became more mindful of the needs of teacher candidates. I also present a reconceptualizing of supervision, reframing it as a present-moment experience that can transform.
