AUTONOMOUS NAVIGATION AND ROOM CATEGORIZATION FOR AN ASSISTANT ROBOT

Doga Y Ozgulbas (10756674) 07 May 2021 (has links)
<div><div><div><p>Globally, there are more than 727 million people aged 65 years and older in the world, and the elderly population is expected to grow more than double in the next three decades. Families search for affordable and quality care for their senior loved ones will have an effect on the care-giving profession. A personal robot assistant could help with daily tasks such as carrying things for them and keeping track of their routines, relieving the burdens of human caregivers. Performing mentioned tasks usually requires the robot to autonomously navi- gate. An autonomous navigation robot should collect the knowledge of its surroundings by mapping the environment, find its position in the map and calculate trajectories by avoiding obstacles. Furthermore, to assign specific tasks which are in various locations, robot has to categorize the rooms in addition to memorizing the respective coordinates. In this research, methods have been developed to achieve autonomous navigation and room categorization of a mobile robot within indoor environments. A Simultaneously Localization and Map- ping (SLAM) algorithm has been used to build the map and localize the robot. Gmapping, a method of SLAM, was applied by utilizing an odometry and a 2D Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) sensor. The trajectory to achieve the goal position by an optimal path is provided by path planning algorithms, which is divided into two parts namely, global and local planners. Global path planning has been produced by DIJKSTRA and local path planning by Dynamic Window Approach (DWA). While exploring new environments with Gmapping and trajectory planning algorithms, rooms in the generated map were classified by a powerful deep learning algorithm called Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). Once the environment is explored, the robots localization in the 2D space is done by Adaptive Monte Carlo Localization (AMCL). To utilize and test the methods above, Gazebo software by The Robotic Operating System (ROS) was used and simulations were performed prior to real life experiments. After the trouble-shooting and feedback acquired from simulations, the robot was able to perform above tasks and later tested in various indoor environments. The environment was mapped successfully by Gmapping and the robot was located within the map by AMCL. Compared to the theoretical maximum efficient path, the robot was able to plan the trajectory with acceptable deviation. In addition, the room names were classified with minimum of 85% accuracy by CNN algorithm. Autonomous navigation results show that the robot can assist elderly people in their home environment by successfully exploring, categorizing and navigating between the rooms.</p></div></div></div>

Fastighetsmäklare som profession : En studie om yrkets professionskategorisering / Real Estate Agent as a profession : A study regarding the occupation´s professional categorization

Arnshed, Jesper January 2021 (has links)
Title: Real Estate Agent as a profession - A study about the occupation´s professional categorization Level: Bachelor's thesis within Real Estate Science  Author: Jesper Arnshed Supervisor: Karin Staffansson Pauli Date: May 2021 Aim: Based on the benefits of reaching a higher profession, the aim of this study is to examine the real estate industry's view on the categorization of the broker´s profession. Method: This study has applied a qualitative research methodology. With the help of semi-structured interviews, additional dimensions have supplemented the theoretical background, about the underlying aspects that are derived from the real estate agent's professional classification. Result &amp; Conclusions: The result shows that the brokers´ aim towards a higher profession is partly prevented due to the gap between theory and practice, and the undefined rules and regulations that brokers must deal with. If the new law change had instead been rooted in the real challenges and aspects that affect the trust and professional integrity among brokers, there are great opportunities for the occupational group to reach a higher profession.  Contribution of the thesis: The study contributed with additional understanding to the broker´s profession and what prevents a higher categorization. Suggestions for future research: As the changes in the law are implemented, it would be interesting to study what changes have had an impact in the industry and for the broker.

Diskurzivní analýza vztahů mezi Ruskem a USA / A Discourse Analysis of the Relations between Russia and the United States of America

Pitoňáková, Andrea January 2015 (has links)
The diploma thesis analyses U.S.-Russian bilateral relationship based on the interpretation of discourses, interviews and speeches of the American and Russian presidents since September 2001 till December 2013. Using Critical Discourse Analysis, and more specifically Membership Categorization Analysis, as a theoretical and methodological basis of the analysis, the thesis categorizes specific periods of the U.S.-Russian bilateral relationship into three categories - positive, neutral and negative. Each category is defined by two basic concepts of the Membership Categorization Analysis - by the collections of positive, neutral and negative categories, which were addressed by the presidents to their counterparts, and by the category-tied predicates related to the particular categories. The final categorization of the U.S.-Russian relations is contrasted with conventional political affairs aiming to highlight the parallels between the categorization changes based on the discourses and the changes in the conventional political context. The diploma thesis offers an alternative view on the U.S.-Russian relations.

Kontím, fáráš, lovíme: Dumpster diving a symbolické hranice mezi čistým a nečistým / Gleaning, trash picking, scavenging: Dumpster diving and symbolic boundaries between clean and unclean

Kubatová, Marie January 2014 (has links)
The author deals with the phenomenon of dumpster diving. Being focused on those divers who are used to dumpster dive not being pressed to it by their financial situation, she concentrates on their definition of purity and their way of dealing with symbolic boundaries of clean and unclean. After summarising social-environmental and social scientific background of the phenomenon in context of the theoretical frame based on Mary Douglas and her book about purity and danger the author presents a qualitative analysis of participant observation and in- depth interviews with informants who dumpster dive voluntarily. Based on quantitatively and representatively tested public opinion on dumpster diving she points both the colourful composition of dumpster divers' motives and ideological believes and their reflection and norm- based boundaries categorization that is connected to food they are used to eat. In connection with informants' conception of food value the author argues that through inspiring power of the first dumpster diving experience informants' understanding and dealing with those boundaries have changed. Nevertheless, she stresses that despite being convinced their way of consumption is right and thus pure the informants tend to apply and present themselves by pattern of conduct that...

Přesekuritizování jaderného Íránu? Politika projevů Benjamina Netanjahua / Nuclear Iran Oversecuritized? The Politics of Benjamin Netanyahu's Speeches

Orossová, Eva January 2016 (has links)
The thesis "Nuclear Iran Oversecuritized? The Politics of Benjamin Netanyahu's Speeches" is concerned with the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speeches held in front of the UN, American Congress, Jewish lobby in the US AIPAC and foreign audience by several special occasions. It is based on the assumption that language is not only a neutral communication tool, but also a political tool serving the aim of achieving political goals. The aim of the thesis is to identify the linguistic tools of categorization, legitimization and securitization which Netanyahu used in order to persuade the international audience about the imminence and existential character of the threat posed by Iranian nuclear programme, and finally to achieve its elimination or at least tough punishment for Iranian non-compliance. Moreover, the thesis provides the reader with the overall context, namely the effect of Netanyahu's speeches, the nature of Iranian nuclear programme and its consequences for the situation in the Middle East.

Gestión del desperdicio de alimentos en el sector de Hoteles, Restaurantes y Cafeterías (HORECA) / Food waste management in the Hotels, Restaurants and Cafeterias (HORECA) sector

Caravedo Martinez, Ignacio, Bueno Obando, Juan Lizandro Fernando 28 October 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this research work is to determine the management of food waste by the hotel, restaurant and cafeteria sector (HORECA) and its potential uses. At present worldwide, solid waste pollution occurs mainly due to the generation of food waste, being 121 kilograms of food per consumer each year. For that reason it is important to know how to manage food waste in the HORECA sector and thus we contribute to reducing these figures. The research methodology employed was a literature review with an integrative approach was used as a methodology, which indicates the use of sources such as academic articles, theses, books, academic journals and academic publications no more than five years old. The study admits knowing waste management through an administrative approach, since policies, procedures and suggestions for reducing food waste are analyzed and from there taking actions that help reduce waste generation. The results indicate that each food generation center must have a human team that is in charge of managing food supplies since it must be separated through a categorization of food losses and waste so that from it make a decision about them that in case of losses it can be used for a food refusal or as a donation for a food bank key point in every HORECA sector. / Trabajo de investigación

Zuordnungsprozesse bei Fußballzuschauern - Zur Salienz teambezogener Kategorien

Roschmann, Regina 05 August 2013 (has links)

Beyond Dark Tourism

Johansson Retamal, Geraldinne January 2023 (has links)
Background: The development of Dark Tourism has evolved much over recent years. The term Dark Tourism is too general for a subject matter that is multilayered and complex. Aim of the Thesis and Research Question: Is to present the consistencies, vagueness, and disagreements of the different categorizations in Dark Tourism. It is my intent to provide a new understanding of the Theory and Empirical Material of Dark Tourism. What lies beyond Dark Tourism and its categorizations? Which values this phenomenon can offer to the Dark Tourists and residents of Dark Sites?  Method: In this chapter I am going to present a qualitative method with thematic analysis, hermeneutics, and criticism. Previous Research: This section should be seen as literature review, as well as a presentation and thematization of my empirical material.  Analysis: General analysis of the categorizations, highlighting the vagueness, strengths, and disagreements.  Discussion: Through utilization of a critical analysis of Dark Tourism sites in terms of their selection and interpretation I can contribute to the debate, discussion and move towards a new procedure of seeing Dark Tourism. Conclusion: Dark Tourism is not only a touristic activity. The description "dark" does not, however, adequately convey the multifaceted nature of this phenomenon.
