Different Perspectives on the Boomerang: How Adult Daughters and their Parents Experience the Move Back HomeKruck, Lauren Michelle 20 October 2015 (has links)
Though the phenomenon of young adults moving in with their parents is not a new one, it is one that has certainly become more common in recent decades. A new life stage of 'emerging adulthood' has become the norm, in which young adults delay marriage and career jobs in order to pursue other goals. This stage is, in part, marked by fluidity in residence. Yet even as a growing number of 'boomerang kids' move back in with their parents, there is a gap in the research regarding this phenomenon's effect on various parts of the family system. This study set out to address this gap by comparing separate interviews from young adult boomerangs and their parents. Findings suggest a disparity between parental and young adult opinions on a variety of topics, most notably: expected household responsibility, parent/child closeness, loss of autonomy, and appreciation. However, similarities emerged regarding the parental home as a safe haven, the arrangement as providing financial security, and the fact that all adult children reported being ready to move out. Ideally, the findings presented here will help illuminate both the similarities and disparities in the experiences of parents and their young adult children who return after launch, in order to increase empathy and promote a healthy family system. / Master of Science

Vermelho Amargo, work by the contemporary writer from Minas Gerais, Bartolomeu
Campos de Queirós, published in 2011, is rooted in the theme of the memory of his
childhood, suggesting a reflection on the characteristics of the time and the location
of these memories. The narrative is set up as poetic prose, written in the first person,
presenting the story of a narrator-character who, in his maturity, revisits the
significant places of his childhood and recreates the sensations experienced in a
childhood marked by the lack of love. The plot has a non-linear timing, composed of
fragments of scenes of the everyday life. Vermelho Amargo is a text marked by the
spaces inhabited in the childhood and, more specifically, in the restricted space of
the birthplace for characters involved in this universe, internalized in their anxieties
and aspirations. As a result of these particularities of the work, the indefinite time of
the childhood and the strength of the childhood home, it was chosen to focus this
study on the analysis of the narrative elements, time and space. Among the
theoretical sources that give support to this research, are the considerations of
Gaston Bachelard and the assumptions of Walter Benjamin, present throughout the
study. Compartments of sweetness, sorrow, secrets, discoveries converge on the
textual architecture where memories transit and spectra from the past and torments
from the present are hidden.

The psychosocial promotion of resilience of the youth placed in foster child is achieved through amethod of education biography. In this method, the teenager is updating its resilience during the pastexperiences of family abuse and mobilizes its resilience to the present. Indeed, faced with perceivedstress placement, resilient adolescent mistreated resumes of past strategies perceived by professionals, such as socially inappropriate affect its resilience on a positive side. The biographical method ofeducation allows the transformation of its resources strategies because it promotes the process ofresilience and customization leads to a type of outcome is the ability to shape their biographicalexperience past and present. This transformation is done through an educational project. Proposed inthe childhood home of the project to create a book of stories of resilience in which the youth is broughtto his autobiographical tale of resilience and to transform it into narrative fiction. This statement andthe statement on this work are supported by a narrative statement hétérobiographique upstream and atale of resilience. These four stories are based on a narrative schema Stories of resilience. Thisstatement and the autobiographical work on the statement are in the production phase of the projectwhich also includes the phases of presentation, preparation, revision and socialization. Through allthese stages, the adolescent becomes an author : it is possible to position himself in the way ofmonitoring the project because the method is thought of in terms of social transformation
