The Effect Of Project-based Learning On 7th Grade Students

Aydinyer, Yurdagul 01 March 2010 (has links) (PDF)
The aim of this study was twofold: (a) to investigate whether seventh grade students&rsquo / conditional and procedural knowledge acquisition in, attitude towards, active learning strategies in, and learning value of geometry improve differentially for students having different cognitive styles in project-based learning and (b) to examine how project-based learning affects them. Participants were 97 seventh-grade students in a private school in Ankara. The students were classified into three groups: Field dependent (N=31), field middle (N=35), and field independent (N=31), based on the raw scores of the participants from the Group Embedded Figures Test. Only one treatment (i.e., project-based learning) was conducted for the study, lasting 30 lesson hours. Pre-test and post-test design for the students having three different cognitive styles was utilized. A mixed methods design integrating both quantitative and qualitative data was used for this study. The data were collected through Conditional and Procedural Knowledge Tests, Active Learning Strategies in and Learning Value of Geometry Questionnaire, Geometry Attitude Scale, interview responses, and classroom observation field notes. The quantitative analyses were carried out by using Mixed Design (one between factor and one within factor) Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA). The results revealed that there is no significant interaction between time and group. There was a substantial main effect for time and follow up analyses for this effect showed that the students achieved large learning gains for all dependent variables. In addition, the main effect of group was not significant. According to interview responses and classroom observation field notes, those quantitative results were attributable to the influence of contextualizing, visualizing, and collaborating geometry concepts with their peers and teacher during benchmark lessons and developing and sharing artifacts for each of the cognitive style group.

The Contribution Of Cognitive Style And Prior Knowledge On Sixth Grade Students&#039 / Knowledge Acquisition In Polygons In Drama Based Learning Environment

Atar Kockar, Burcin 01 May 2010 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of this study is to investigate the contribution of cognitive style and prior knowledge on 6th grade students&#039 / knowledge acquisition in polygons in drama based learning environment. The sample of the study was composed of 112 sixth grade students from a public school in Altindag district of Ankara. There were 9 drama based lesson plans lasting 16 lesson hours in the study. The data was collected through Group Embedded Figure Test (GEFT), and three types of knowledge tests: Declarative Knowledge Test (DecKT), Conditional Knowledge Test (ConKT), and Procedural Knowledge Test (ProKT). GEFT developed by Witkin, Oltman, Raskin and Karp (1971) was used to determine cognitive styles of the students as field dependent (FD), field independent (FI), and field mix (FM). Three types of knowledge tests developed by Erdogan (2007) were used as pretests and posttests. The quantative analysis was carried out by using standard multiple regression analysis. The results revealed that students&rsquo / cognitive style was the most predictive variable in explaining students&rsquo / declarative, conditional and procedural knowledge Moreover, students&rsquo / prior declarative knowledge explained statistically significant amount of variance in students&rsquo / declarative and procedural knowledge acquisition, while students&rsquo / prior conditional knowledge explained statistically significant amount of variance in students&rsquo / declarative, conditional, and procedural knowledge acquisition. On the other hand, students&rsquo / prior procedural knowledge failed to explain declarative, conditional, and procedural knowledge acquisition of students.

Fundamentos metodológicos para a medida de carga cognitiva e do conhecimento prévio num contexto de ensino de cinemática com o auxílio de uma hipermídia / Methodological grounds for the assessment of cognitive load and of a previous knowledge in the context of kinematics teaching with the aid of a hypermedia

Oliveira, Ângelo Mozart Medeiros de January 2016 (has links)
In this research it was analyzed the use of a hypermedia system as a evaluating instrument of previous knowledge and learning assessment, within the perspective of the cognitive load theory and of the meaningful learning theory, in the teaching of kinematics. For this, initially a review of the literature on adaptative hypermedia and problem solving. The experimental part of research was based on the literature about hypermedia and the findings were interpreted in the light of these theories. It was also made a theoretical approximation between the meaningful learning theory and the cognitive load theory, together with the theoretical features of adaptative hypermedia found in the literature. In the first study an exploratory methodology was developed for the construction of a hypermedia programmed to make records of the answers given by the students as well as their browsing within the hypermedia during a test on average speed applied to students of high school first year of the Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Sul, Ibirubá campus, Brazil. Findings of the first study suggest that the theoretical distribution of the difficult level of the questions was satisfactory and that the students tend to stay in the certain difficult. The second study was carried out with high school first year students of the Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Sul, campus Bento Gonçalves, Brazil A case study was done, in which the content produced by students in their interaction with the hypermedia in the context of kinematics teaching was analyzed, but in this case with a context load higher than in the first study that was just about average speed. In addition of corroborating the level of difficult of the question it was found that it is not possible to align the students cognitive style and their browsing style, In the light of the theoretical framework an attempt was made to interpret these findings and a critical position was assumed regarding the logic of using cognitive style as adaptative method of browsing. At the end, a series guideline is proposed for future studies about the use of adaptative hypermedia in the teaching of kinematics.

The making of organizational strategy in small business: a regional study. / Formação de estratégias organizacionais em pequenas empresas: um estudo regional

Fausto Rafael Gmach Gomes 18 September 2004 (has links)
The present work has for objective to present the results of a research realized in small companies, seeking to identify the strategy types adopted and your relationship with your leaders cognitive styles. For this reason, the model used was proposed by Miles and Snow to classify the choices strategic reported for the entrepreneurs. This choice is based in the fact that the taxonomic has been showing if appropriate for the analysis of the strategic behavior of small companies. In relation to the cognitive aspect, the model was used KAI (Kirton Adaptor-Innovator) to evaluate the leaders style. The data were collected in companies of the area of the Vale do Paraíba, SP and of the area of Campinas, SP. The analysis of those data reveals, in first place, that all the four strategic types are found in both areas, and that the distribution of those types doesnt present significant differences of an area for other. With relationship to the cognitive style, it can be verified that the obtained results are equivalent, those found in similar researches accomplished in the exterior, and that the entrepreneurs are distributed equally between innovators and adapters. Finally, although it has not been possible to find significant correlation between the cognitive styles and the general strategic typology of the companies of both areas, it was identified a strong correlation between innovative style and prospective strategy and also among adapting style and defensive strategy in the relative areas to the entrepreneurial activities and the technology.

遊戲互動式擴增實境支援國小圖書館利用教育之研究 / The Study of the Game-based Interactive Learning with Augmented Reality that Enhances Elementary School Library User Education

蔡雁農, Tsai, Yen-Nung Unknown Date (has links)
Due to the limited budgets and human resources, most libraries in the elementary schools of Taiwan have been unable fully functioned and utilized as its role should be in school organization. Some schools do not plan and provide library utilization education for children. Although students can go to libraries enjoying readings, they are not well trained for search library collection and resources. As a result, they are usually unable to find the books they are interested and easily getting lost in enormous information environment. This study proposes the importance of library usage training as a significant program in elementary school; promoting students’ abilities of finding books they need both for school works and personal interests. With the advance in computer technology, the learning materials and learning methods have become diversified in recent years. In particular, the instruction method of game-based learning has drawn much attention in education research. Many education researchers and scholars think the integration of teaching and games will promotes students’ performances while the learning activities are also functioned as entertaining process. This study attempts to develop educational gaming system on the basis of situated learning theory, adopting the innovative augmented reality interactive technology on the library's learning environment. This study hopes students’ library knowledge of library usages could be promoted through the "Interactive Augmented Reality Games Library Education Learning System." Moreover, the study could develop innovative learning model for elementary schools in library usages as well as to support future implementation programs for elementary library usage education. Experimental results show that students have significant improvement on learning performance after using "Interactive Augmented Reality Games Library Education Learning System." The assessment also showed improvement based on the exclusion of personal factors from teachers. In addition, this system promotes better learning performance and motivation for learners of high and Low graded groups as well as the field-dependent learners in the “application questions” tasks. Moreover, the education effectiveness of this system will not be affected by personal factors such as familiarity on computers skills. Therefore, there would be less consideration on students’ computer skills needed for future adoption on this system in library usage programs.

Subjektyviai suvokiamo asmens atitikimo darbo reikalavimams, kognityvinio stiliaus ir pasitenkinimo darbu ryšys / Relationship between subjectively perceived person – job fit, cognitive style and job satisfaction

Švobaitė, Kristina 01 September 2008 (has links)
The subjects of the study were 168 public service employees. Based on Kirton’s adaption – innovation cognitive style theory, this study examines civil servants’ cognitive style and their perceptions of cognitive style required by the job environment. Using person – environment fit theory as the theoretical framework, this study examines the fit between these two styles as well as subjectively perceived person – job fit. Also, we explore relations of these two types of fit with job satisfaction. According to theoretical knowledge, a special model was developed and tested empirically. In order to test how cognitive styles (person’s, job environment’s and interaction of them) are related to subjectively perceived person – job fit and job satisfaction, two regression equations were formed. In both cases, the employees’ cognitive style and the interaction of employee – job environment cognitive style were of significant predictable value. Regression analysis showed that interaction of cognitive styles is the most important predictor for subjectively perceived person – job fit, while employees’ cognitive style is the most important predictor for job satisfaction. The results of this study suggest that those... [to full text]

不同多媒體合作標註對於國小學童英語字彙 / A Study on the Effects of Collaborative Multimedia Annotations on Elementary School Students’ Vocabulary Learning Performance

李懿融, Li, Yi Rong Unknown Date (has links)
English vocabulary knowledge and capability are the key factors in well learning English as well as the major factor in reading fluency. Nonetheless, English vocabulary teaching is often restricted to time and language learning environments to further restrict the learning achievement. With the advance of information technology, a lot of research focuses on developing technology-assisted English vocabulary learning systems to help learners’ English vocabulary learning, expecting to expand English vocabulary learning to the time beyond lessons. Past reading annotation systems were successfully applied to enhance students’ reading and vocabulary capabilities. However, most relevant research stressed on single annotation function of text, picture, and video, but seldom on multimedia reading annotation towards vocabulary learning. Moreover, reading annotation also concentrated on teacher annotation-assist learning, but not on student cooperative annotation assisted English vocabulary learning. In consideration of the assistance of multimedia annotation in teaching, a digital reading annotation system with multimedia annotation functions is utilized for English vocabulary learning to discuss the effects of different multimedia annotation combination on English vocabulary learning. Accordingly, English vocabulary learning assisted with different multimedia reading annotation of text & voice (student recording), picture & voice (student recording), and text, picture & voice (student recording) in English reading texts for elementary pupils is investigated the effects on children’s English vocabulary learning achievement, English learning motivation, learning satisfaction, and memory retention. Furthermore, the above multimedia reading annotation assisted English vocabulary learning are also discussed the effects on English vocabulary learning achievement, English learning motivation, learning satisfaction, and memory retention of pupils with different cognitive styles, English capabilities, and genders, expecting to develop the most effective reading annotation assisted learning model based on multimedia reading annotation assisted English vocabulary learning. The research findings are summarized as below. (1) Pupils applying voice annotation with text & picture annotation significantly outperform the ones with voice annotation and picture annotation on English vocabulary learning achievement, while the ones with voice annotation with picture annotation remarkably outperform those voice annotation and text annotation. (2) Pupils applying voice annotation with text & picture annotation and the ones applying voice annotation with picture annotation notably outperform the others with voice annotation and text annotation on the achievement of English vocabulary memory retention. (3) Among pupils applying different multimedia with cooperative reading annotation, the ones with voice annotation and text annotation present significantly better performance than those with voice annotation and picture annotation on Motive Strength in English learning motivation, but not on the rest dimensions. Besides, the learning satisfaction does not appear remarkable difference. (4) Pictorial pupils applying voice annotation with text & picture annotation notably present higher English vocabulary learning achievement than those pictorial pupils with text annotation. (5) Pictorial pupils applying voice annotation with text & picture annotation significantly outperform the other pictorial pupils with voice annotation and text annotation on the achievement of English vocabulary learning retention. (6) High-score pupils applying voice annotation with text & picture annotation remarkably outperform the other high-score pupils applying voice annotation with text annotation and voice annotation with picture annotation on English vocabulary learning achievement. (7) High-score pupils applying voice annotation with text & picture annotation notably outperform the other high-score pupils with voice annotation and text annotation on the achievement of English vocabulary learning retention. (8) Pupils applying different cooperative reading annotation of voice annotation with text annotation, voice annotation with picture annotation, and voice annotation with text & picture annotation show significant correlations between English vocabulary learning achievement and English vocabulary memory retention as well as English learning motivation and learning satisfaction. Finally, suggestions for applying multimedia annotation to English teaching and for future research directions are also proposed in this study.
