This diploma thesis is focused on information and communication technologies, which became nowadays a part of our live at schools . The aim of this thesis is to introduce the term ICT, introduce its history, describe individual kind of ICT, didactical function and in the end shows the negative and positive sides of ICT. The practical part looks at the difference in using information and communication technologies among teachers at primary schools in region such as Prague and Královéhradecký. The last part is focused only on Prague teachers, their using ICT at schools during teaching, their opinions and experience with ICT.

Disclosing the Undisclosed: Social, Emotional, and Attitudinal Information as Modeled Predictors of #MeToo Posts.pdf

This study proposes a social and emotional disclosure model for understanding the mechanism that explains sharing intimate information on social media (Twitter). Previous research has indicated that some aspects of social, emotional, and attitudinal information processing are involved in disclosure of intimate information. However, these factors have been considered in isolation. This study proposes and tests a theoretically grounded model that brings all of these factors together by combining individual and group social media behaviors and online information processing in the realm of online social movements. The core explanatory model considers the impact of peer response, emotional evaluation, personal relevance, issue orientation, and motivation to post online on intimate information disclosure online. A path analysis building on four Poisson multiple regressions conducted on 28,629 #MeToo tweets evaluates the relationships proposed in the explanatory model. Results indicate that emotional evaluation and motivation to post online have direct, positive impacts on online disclosure. Other factors such as peer response, issue orientation, and personal relevance have negative direct relationships with online disclosure. Motivation to post online mediates the effects of emotional evaluation, issue orientation, and personal relevance on online disclosure while issue orientation mediates the effect of personal relevance on motivation to post online. This study offers findings that have use for practitioners interested in hashtag virality and to social media users interested in social influence and online information sharing.

In today’s technological world, electrical energy is one of the most important forms of energy and is needed directly or indirectly in almost every field. Increase in the demand and consumption of electrical energy leads to increase in the system fault levels. It is not possible to change the rating of the equipment and devices in the system or circuits to accommodate the increasing fault currents. The devices in electronic and electrical circuits are sensitive to disturbance and any disturbance or fault may damage the device permanently so that it must be replaced. The cost of equipment like circuit breakers and transformers in power grids is very expensive. Moreover, replacing damaged equipment is a time and labour consuming process, which also affects the reliability of power systems. It is not possible to completely eliminate the faults but it is possible to limit the current during fault in order to save the equipment and devices in the circuits or systems. One solution to this problem is to use a current limiting device in the system. There are many different types of approaches used for limiting fault currents Two different approaches to limit fault currents have been discussed by the author. One is Passive Magnetic Current Limiter (MCL) and another is High Temperature Superconductor Fault Current Limiter (HTSFCL). Both are passive devices and they do not need any sensor or external sources to perform their current limiting action. The first device consists of two ferrite cores and a permanent magnet which is sandwiched between the two saturated cores and it is called Magnetic Current Limiter. Experimental results with the MCL in circuit are discussed. Both field and thermal models of the MCL have been simulated using finite element software, FEMLAB. The demonstration of the High Temperature Superconductor Fault Current Limiter (HTSFCL) in power systems has been explained. The MATLAB simulation of the HTSFCL has been done and the results with and without the fault are shown. Power System Analysis Toolbox (PSAT) software has been used to locate the optimum or the best location of HTSFCL in a nine bus system. It has been shown that it is possible to find a solution that limits the fault current in power systems. Depending on the size of the system, either the MCL or the HTSFCL can be implemented. The location of the HTSFCL is to be carefully selected to achieve optimum results.

In our complex world of today we see that the leader- and followership is getting harder and harder to “command and control” our organizations and our society. The awareness of the decision makers are often too fragmented in relation to the often complex real situations out there. The information is only flowing in organizational stovepipes and not across boundaries as it should today. The patterns of mutual complex dependencies have taken over and we have difficulties in controlling the consequences of our decisions. The relations over organizational borders are often weak and fragmented and the mutual trust is low. Technology has always been a driver for the society to evolve and our idea is that technology can be the main driver for evolving cross boundary collaboration in order to meet the demands of the world. Technology can be the main driver but only if we consider all of the important dimensions when implementing Information and communication technologies (ICT) In order to find the right method of using technology and scientific methods for achieving better cross boundary collaboration a number of data collection activities has been performed, described and analyzed in the work with this thesis. The activities has been diverse in its nature, brainstorming activities, qualitative interviews and a small case study has been combined in order to derive the result – a path forward against further research for a better cross boundary collaboration in our western community. The thesis now have identified a path forward and a scientific framework for taking all of our experiences, existing capabilities, earlier performed research one step further and lift it up to the cross boundary level in organizations and in our society. We have the chance of cultivating all of the properties, relations, amounts of information, and evolve our technology. This may be all that we need in order to achieve a more socially sustainable climate in leader- and followership in our organizations and society. Who knows … maybe we can change the world … or at least make a real difference somewhere!

Conceptions of geographic information systems (GIS) held by senior geography students in Queensland

Geographical Information Systems (GIS) represent one of the major contributions to spatial analysis and planning of the new technologies. While teachers and others have viewed its potential contribution to geographical education as considerable, it has not been known with any certainty whether they present a valuable educational tool that aids geographical education. The value of GIS to geographical education is viewed as depending on a geographical education being, in itself, valuable. Within this context, synergetic focus groups are employed to explore the conceptions of GIS held by 109 secondary school students studying Senior Geography in metropolitan and regional Queensland, Australia. A phenomenographic approach is adopted to identify the six qualitatively different ways, or conceptions, in which the participating students experience GIS as: 1. Maps and a source of maps in geography. 2. Mapping in geography: a way to use and create maps. 3. A professional mapping tool: exceeding the needs of senior geography. 4. Frustrating geography: irksome and presenting many challenges to the student-user. 5. Relevant geography: within and beyond the school experience. 6. A better geography: offering a superior curriculum, and broader geographical education, when contrasted to a senior geography that omits its use. The structural and referential elements of each of these conceptions are elucidated within corresponding Categories of Description. The qualitatively different ways in which the conceptions may be experienced are illustrated through an Outcome Space, comprising a metaphoric island landscape. This structural framework reveals that for the Senior Geography students who participated in this investigation, the extent to which GIS may augment the curriculum is influenced by the nature of students' individual understandings of how GIS manages spatial data. This research project is a response to repeated calls in the literature for teachers of geography themselves to become researchers and for a better understanding of GIS within geography education. It reviews the salient literature with respect to geography and geography education generally, and GIS within geographical education specifically. The investigation has confirmed that qualitatively different conceptions of GIS exist amongst students and that these are not consistently aligned with assumptions about its use and benefits as presented by current literature. The findings of the study contribute to knowledge of the potential educational outcomes associated with the use of GIS in geography education and decisions related to current and potential geography curricula. It provides guidance for future curriculum development involving GIS and argues for additional research to inform educators and the spatial sciences industry about the actual and perceived role of GIS within geography education.

This Master of Design study aims to communicate affective design principles within a Tait Electronics Ltd hand-held radio for the New Zealand Police to use in the year 2018. This investigation has three distinct research aims: A) Identify affective design principles appropriate for the design of current Tait portable police radios using the perceptual product experience (PPE) framework (Warell, 2008). B) Use speculative scenario planning to develop an understanding of how the requirements of Tait’s portable police radios will evolve over the next 10 years. C) Incorporate affective design principles and the brand values of Tait’s product range into a final conceptual portable police radio design for the year 2018. A comprehensive review of contemporary affective product design theory, case studies and other relevant literature was undertaken. This included affective product design (Warell, 2008), radio communication (Marzano, 2005) and future product forecasting (Lambourne, Feiz, & Rigot, 1997). Following this review the following research methods were selected for this study: 1) Future scenario planning 2) Current product-user interviews 3) Passive product observations Throughout the project iterative design methods were used, including 2D concept generation, concept development and 3D prototyping. The resulting conceptual product and associated documentation of this study will add to the existing body of knowledge around the application of affective design principles and portable police radio product design. O objetivo principal desta pesquisa é caracterizar o projeto de estandes segundo considerações determinadas pelo marketing promocional de feiras e identificar a tecnologia utilizada como suporte neste processo quando seus agentes trabalham de forma distribuída. Para conhecer melhor esse processo, realizou-se um estudo de campo cuja pesquisa exploratória foi realizada a partir do desenvolvimento de projetos relacionados à arquitetura promocional desenvolvidos para o setor de marketing da EMBRAER, localizada em São José dos Campos ¿ SP. Nessa pesquisa analisou-se como são desenvolvidos os projetos de estandes cujos agentes encontram-se distribuídos, abrangendo dois aspectos ligados à qualidade do projeto: os conceituais e os de gerenciamento. O primeiro aspecto está relacionado à qualidade e à solução do projeto no que se refere às suas necessidades explícitas e implícitas, em que se analisam fatores importantes, conforme a fundamentação teórica apresentada: o plano de necessidades (briefing), a flexibilidade do projeto, a capacidade de reutilização, a facilidade na montagem e desmontagem e sua agilidade logística. O segundo aspecto está relacionado à comunicação e ao gerenciamento da documentação produzida durante o processo de projeto e à tecnologia utilizada para tanto. Para obtenção dos dados necessários à análise, foram aplicados questionários e formulários às empresas de AEC prestadoras de serviço de projeto e construção do setor. Como resultado, pôde-se perceber que, o trabalho desenvolvido pelas empresas pesquisadas, em sua maioria, segue o processo da engenharia tradicional e que as mesmas não direcionarem seus trabalhos de acordo com as normas para projeto e desenvolvimento. Contudo, estas empresas buscam contemplar as necessidades detectadas na pesquisa bibliográfica e o uso da TIC tem sido extremamente importante para o desenvolvimento e a validação de seus projetos. Portanto, a utilização de extranets de projeto pode contribuir favoravelmente para um maior controle da qualidade dos projetos e de seu desenvolvimento / Abstract: Due to the fierce competition between companies in a globalized market, promotional architecture has been developing steadily to meet the marketing needs of big and small companies. Meeting these clients' needs quickly and effectively has become a challenge for professionals in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction industries (AEC), hired to design and build stands in tenths of trade shows a year, following extremely tight schedules. Cases where the client, the designers and the builders are geographically apart are very common. In such cases, the use of New Information and Communication Technologies (NICT) help them in project development, allowing them to share documents and work simultaneously. Utilizing the World Wide Web (WWW) through the Internet has been crucial in this process, allowing for virtual collaboration sites (extranets) to help improve the quality of the projects, as well as the speed of its execution. The main objective of this research is to characterize trade show stands according to considerations determined by trade show promotional marketing and identify the technology utilized for support in the stands building process when its stakeholders work apart. In order to better understand this process, a field study was carried out, in which the exploratory research was conducted on the development of projects related to promotional architecture for EMBRAER (Empresa Brasileira de Aeronáutica) marketing department, located in São José dos Campos, SP. In that study it was analyzed how the projects of stands are developed when its stakeholders are working apart, focusing on two aspects concerning project quality: conceptual and management aspects. The former relate to project quality concerning to implicit and explicit needs, in which we analyzed important factors, following the theoretical framework presented as follows: briefing, project flexibility, reutilization capabilities, ease of assembling/disassembling and logistical agility. The latter aspects concern communication and management of the paperwork generated during the execution of the project and the technology involved in it. In order to collect the data needed for analysis, questionnaires and forms were distributed to the sector¿s designing and building outsourcing AEC companies. Results indicate that, even though these companies don¿t carry out their work according to the standards for project and development, they seek to meet the needs detected in this bibliographic research. The majority of the work developed by the companies researched follows traditional engineering processes; however, results also show that the use of NICT has been playing a very important role in project development and validation. L’essor du « web 2.0 », couramment qualifié de web participatif ou social, a réactivé le vocable de la « communauté » pour désigner le regroupement spontané d’internautes autour de sujets de discussion ou de projets communs. À mesure que se développent les plateformes informatisées d’échange d’information et de contenu, au premier rang desquelles Facebook et Twitter, les annonceurs les investissent massivement de leur présence, sous forme de pages et de comptes de marque, pour tirer profit de l’expressivité des internautes au prisme de la « communauté de marque ». La gestion de ces espaces promotionnels innovants est confiée à une nouvelle catégorie de prestataires de service – les community managers – chargés de promouvoir l’offre des organisations et de répondre à la demande ininterrompue d’informations des consommateurs. C’est ce double mécanisme de la relecture marchande des collectifs en ligne et de la visée stratégique de leur administration qui est questionné ici. Le community management est traité comme un accomplissement pratique, afin de saisir la manière dont une doctrine du marketing s’inscrit dans une activité professionnelle qui se reconfigure au fil de vagues successives de rationalisation de la communication numérique de marque. Ce faisant, cette recherche souhaite contribuer à une sociologie pragmatique qui refuse de réifier le processus de « transformation numérique » de nos sociétés, pour décrire la manière dont celui-ci est performé par une pluralité d’acteurs qui œuvrent à aligner l’expressivité des consommateurs connectés sur les besoins des entreprises. / The rise of “Web 2.0”, commonly referred to as social or participatory Web, has reactivated the terminology of “community” to characterize the spontaneous gathering of individuals around joint discussion topics or projects. As the computerized information and content sharing platforms – such as Facebook and Twitter – develop, companies are heavily investing them by creating brand pages and accounts permitting them to take advantage of the expressivity of Internet users through the prism of the “brand community”. The animation of these innovative promotional spaces is entrusted to a new category of service providers – the community managers – responsible for promoting organizations and responding to the consumers’ ongoing demands for information. This thesis questions the dual mechanism of online collectives’ commercial reinterpretation and of the strategic aim of their management.Considering community management as a practical achievement, the analysis describes how a marketing doctrine is being unfolded in a professional activity that is successively reconfigured through the rationalization of digital brand communication. By doing so, this research wishes to contribute to a pragmatic sociology that refuses to reify the process of “digital transformation” of our societies by describing how the latter is performed by a plurality of actors working to adjust the expressiveness of connected consumers to the companies’ needs.

COUNTER UNMANNED AERIAL DEFENSE FOR HIGH VALUE UNITS AFLOAT PIERSIDE

<div>Counter Unmanned Aerial System (C-UAS) development and fielding has greatly accelerated over the last several years to protect against all classes of Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) threats. Integration of the detection and tracking systems, the engagement systems, and other portions of the kill chain including command and control (C2) is ongoing. A significant concern is that the majority of these developments are designed for defending ships at sea. Most of these technological advances cannot be used within restricted waters or in port, foreign or domestic, due to the potential of high collateral damages and the fact that they are not currently readily available for dissemination to the Fleet.</div><div>The problem addressed by this project is to determine how to defend high value units from the threat of weaponized UAVs while moored pier-side with currently in-place weapons systems. This study will take a parameter-driven approach based on existing technologies to determine if an enhanced fire-control system integrated with standard issue weaponry can increase watchstander accuracy required to safely defend a high value unit pierside.</div>

A informação dos telecentros do Vale do Jequitinhonha como aporte ao desenvolvimento social dos distritos de São Gonçalo do Rio das Pedras e Milho Verde em Minas Gerais

A pesquisa traça o contexto mundializado dos dias atuais, onde as Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação (TICs) podem ser entendidas como oportunidades de cidadania a grupos excluídos que se encontram à margem do desenvolvimento humano local e global em plena era da informação, como as comunidades dos distritos de São Gonçalo do Rio das Pedras e Milho Verde no Vale do Jequitinhonha, Minas Gerais — uma das regiões mais pobres do país. Como principal objetivo, este estudo pretende identificar de que maneira a informação originada nos telecentros da Rede Rural de Telecentros Comunitários da ONG Gemas da Terra têm contribuído para o processo de inclusão social dessas comunidades, analisando o projeto de instalação do telecentro em relação a propostas de inclusão social e cidadania; avaliando o uso dos telecentros pelas comunidades analisadas; verificando a existência de ações que pretendam a integração dos freqüentadores dos telecentros às demais pessoas da comunidade, prevenindo uma possível concentração de opiniões e isolamento entre ambos; e apontando os resultados decorrentes das ações empreendidas pelas comunidades e sua conseqüente influência prática no cotidiano social local. A proposta metodológica inclui a análise documental do Guia Gemas da Terra de Telecentros Rurais, observação não-participante nos telecentros e entrevistas semi-estruturadas junto aos usuários, voluntários e representantes de entidades comunitárias das regiões pesquisadas, onde a disseminação e o uso das TICs são tidos pelas comunidades como apoiadores importantes para o estabelecimento de melhores condições de vida à população, ampliando as oportunidades de informação, trabalho, renda, educação e lazer. Entre as conclusões alcançadas por esta pesquisa, destaca-se que a maior contribuição social do projeto piloto da ONG Gemas da Terra é apresentar às comunidades envolvidas na proposta o potencial possível que a Internet pode proporcionar a esses distritos e, muito particularmente, às pessoas. Entretanto, a partir dos resultados obtidos neste trabalho, tornou-se evidente o longo trajeto a ser percorrido pela inclusão digital para a contribuição efetiva das questões sociais em grupos marginalizados e integrados à era digital, não sendo tal vislumbrado em totalidade no âmbito pesquisado.This study delineates the globalized context of the present time, where Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) can be understood as opportunities of citizenship for excluded groups who find themselves at the margins of local and global human development in the era of information, such as the communities in the districts of São Gonçalo do Rio das Pedras and Milho Verde in the Vale do Jequitinhonha, Minas Gerais — one of the poorest regions in the country. As a major goal, this study intended to identify how information originating from the telecenters of the Rede Rural de Telecentros Comunitários, of the NGO Gemas da Terra, has contributed to the social inclusion of these communities; to analyze the project for installing a telecenter for the communities studied; to verify any actions aimed at the integration of those who attend the telecenters with the other people of the community, to prevent a possible concentration of opinions and alienation between the two groups; and to point out results of the actions undertaken by the communities and their consequent practical influence on the daily life of local society. The methodology includes a document analysis of the Guia Gemas da Terra de Telecentros Rurais, non-participant observation at the telecenters, and semi-structured interviews with he users, volunteers, and representatives of the community organizations of the regions studied, where the dissemination and the use of the ICTs have been regarded by the communities as important supporters for improving conditions of life of the population by increasing opportunities for information, work, income, education, and leisure. Among the conclusions reached by this study, it was noted that the greatest social contribution of the pilot project of the NGO Gemas da Terra was to show the communities involved in the project the potential that the Internet offers to these districts, especially to the common people. Nevertheless, from the results obtained by this study, it became evident that the long way to be covered by informational inclusion toward the effective contribution of social questions in marginalized and integrated groups in the information era, was not totally explicit in the area studied. / on the social changes resulting from digital inclusion of poor communities in Brazil
