Kiefer, Luísa Martins Waetge January 2013 (has links)
This work seeks to investigate the role and place occupied by young artists in todays art field. The set of buildings, as well as the unique architecture of each, arouse research interest in the debate raised by the contemporary condition of architecture embedded in a consolidated site. Each of the buildings of interest was designed by teams of architects and professors of this university in Latin America. This fact still arouses the interest of understanding the characteristics of this architecture, considering the relation between universality and specificity with the Chilean current architectural production. At the same time of the conception of the campus and its buildings (2002/2003), UDP launched its Infrastructure Plan, which, along with other public initiatives, has encouraged transformations on this old urban area. In this context, there is the challenge of finding out which architectural and urban factors and processes, are responsible for the redevelopment of this area, and how the architecture appears and explains this transformations. The Chilean architecture arouses interest not only for presenting contemporary features that meets the questions that this study aims to answer, involving intervention on a consolidated site, but also to fill an existing gap in Brazil of systemic knowledge on contemporary practices, architectural and urban, significant on Latin America. The set of buildings in question will be analyzed according to various categories defining the interventions, such as those related to the neighborhood (social), urban territory (urban) and historical and new buildings inserted into this urban fabric (architectural). These aspects will be related to the process of implementation of the Infrastructure Plan of UDP, the joints of the open urban campus with the urban territory and relations of the new buildings with the existing heritage buildings by analyzing the specific characteristics of each building selected. The listed factors justify the importance of the issue and seek to expand the universe of research and studies on the subject. The aim is that this research will assist other research projects related to interventions in consolidated sites and contribute to the field of architectural and urban design by deepening the knowledge of contemporary works, the Arquitetura contemporânea e a requalificação do sítio consolidado: o conjunto edificado do Campus da UDP 15 Abstract relationship between architectural design and its surroundings, and representative architects in contemporary Latin America.

It is also in this scenario that many concepts or conceptual notions from several areas are challenged. In Architecture but not limited to it attempts to theorize about the attributes related to the idea of places are recurrent as well as its potential implications for human relations. According to the French anthropologist Marc Augé, places can be defined as identitarian, relational and historical: if one of these attributes is weakened, non-places are configured. In order to encompass the nature of this phenomenon and to understand how the versatility of the contemporary world collaborates to the production and reproduction of non-places, is resorted here, an inter, trans and multidisciplinary approach: Geography, Anthropology, History, Psychology, Architecture and Cinema are summed up in order to create an investigative and scientific panorama academically legitimate. For this purpose, instead of opting for a simple architectural design analysis what would be more expected is assumed, in conformity with the plurality of contemporary metropolis itself, a polyhedric focus and a more essayistic feature.

Confluences : folk wisdom in contemporary music

Ferlaino, Christian January 2018 (has links)
This thesis explores ways of adopting elements of Calabrian folk music in compositions of contemporary music beyond the mere adoption of melodies and instruments. Through this work, I aim to create a practice for contemporary improvisation and composition that is deeply imbued with elements derived from the music theory, the sonic environment and the performance practices of Calabria. The work described in this dissertation consists of two components: ethnomusicological research and a practice-based enquiry. This research focuses mainly on three aspects of Calabrian folk music: generative principles, the tuning system and processes of bagpipes, and soundscapes created by animal bells. These aspects guided both the ethnomusicological enquiry and the creative exploration. They are first described and analysed in their original context: folk music was studied in the field, amid and within the tradition bearers; research was conducted from a cultural and musicological perspective within the methodological and ethical framework of ethnomusicology. The data emerging from the ethnomusicological investigations informed the creative enquiry carried out through practice-led research. The outcomes of my investigation into Calabrian music became the core principles of my compositions of contemporary music. Generative principles were explored from the perspectives of both composition and improvisation They informed primarily a series of pieces for saxophone solo and a composition for chamber ensemble. The tuning system and processes of Calabrian bagpipes were investigated in compositions centred on pitch and extended harmonic spaces. They informed two compositions for string quartet and a piece for saxophone quartet. Soundscapes informed the composition of a piece of spatial music for goat bells that adopts indeterminacy methods for structuring the performance. The creative work, attached to this thesis as a portfolio of compositions, is analysed through self-reflective methods and in relation to the work of other contemporary music practitioners. My enquiry of the folk sources contributes to the field of ethnomusicology with new insight into Calabrian music. The creative processes and the techniques developed throughout this research also have implications for the broader field of contemporary music, as they offer a perspective on new ways of engaging creatively with folk materials.

Écriture et engagement dans les romans d’Andrés Sorel (1963-2013) / Writing and commitment in Andrés Sorel's novels (1963-2013)

Sainz-Pardo Gonzalez, Carlos 11 December 2018 (has links)
As a novelist, essayist, and former general secretary of the Asociación Colegial de Escritores de España, Andrés Sorel (Segovia, 1937) is best known for his anti-Franco activism. To this day, he has published fifteen novels and a considerable number of essays. Since the nineteen sixties, all his work has been written under the sign of commitment, which may partly explain his side-lining from the editorial market. This thesis aims at analyzing how his intellectual disagreement with the dominant ideology is built up in his novelistic production. We will attempt to define the outlines of commitment, whether through his part as an intellectual, in its most controversial aspects, or through the characteristics of his committed writing, in its textual and pre-textual dimension. We will also analyze how the markers of commitment develop in the construction of the narrator, his characters and temporality. By always paying equal attention to the ideological content and its shaping, Sorel conceives writing as an exercise of rehabilitation of the memory of the vanquished, thus becoming a part of – and in a certain way launching – the "novel of the memory" which has dominated the literary panorama of Spain for the last two decades. It is therefore a matter of analyzing the dialectical tension that is played out between a fictional narrative and a method that uses factual elements, especially experimenting. Through the plurality of literary testimonies, Sorel’s texts seek to bring out the hidden truths and give a voice to those who have been deprived of it. We will study the formal devices through which his stories establish a counter power against the dominant discourse of authoritarian, totalitarian or democratic regimes. Lastly, we will analyze the pragmatic dimension of a writing style that claims to transform reality, in order to grasp the degree of visibility of its literary discourse and its media presence, as well as the way in which his novels are perceived by literary criticism. We will finally try to outline the reader types conveyed by the story, whether to legitimize or to reject them.

Rozbor nářečních prvků v současné chodské mluvě a v díle J. Š. Baara / The Analysis of Dialectal Elements in the Present Language in the Region Chodsko and in the Work of J. Š .Baara

JINDROVÁ, Jana January 2016 (has links)
This diploma thesis is based on the bachelor thesis Chodské nářečí ve třech generacích. It expands on the topic of the "chod" dialect from the works of Jindřich Šimon Baar aswell as contemporary authors. The basis of this work is formed by a comparison of the current spoken form of the dialect with the dialect's version from the 1950s and comparison of the dialect stylization in Baar's books with todays stylization. The aim is to examine the evolution of the "chod" dialect's stylization and spoken form. This thesis is based on the hypothesis of a slowly disappearing dialect in all aspects and searches for evidence of this occurrence. Basis for the theoretical part are findings about Jindřich Šimon Baar, his life and his work. Furthermore the current knowledge about dialects with a focus on the southwestern dialect "chod". No less important is the part examining text stylization. The practical part is based on the language analysis of Baar's books partly written in a dialect in comparison with books of contemporary authors. And also comparison of audio recordings of the dialect with recordings from the archive of Jindřich Jindřich.
