Este estudo tem como objetivo investigar a obra completa de Raduan Nassar e analisar de que forma a vertigem, a desmedida e o excesso inerentes ao erotismo moldam sua prosa. Essa obra ficcional encena, de variadas maneiras, a impossibilidade da verdade perante a pletora de possibilidades da palavra. Em geral, o embate entre as personagens ganha em complexidade quando um dos disputantes é também o dono da voz, apegado ao privilégio de transmitir sua visão única dos fatos. Na tensão entre uma apologia da destruição irrestrita da verdade e a defesa feroz da própria fala, reside uma afirmação categórica da virilidade do narrador, que é, na maior parte das vezes, realizada de forma violenta. Se isso acontece, talvez seja porque se trata, quase sempre, de uma virilidade à beira de um colapso e, se assim o for, potencializada tanto pela intensidade quanto pela precariedade. Essa hipótese ganha fôlego quando nos lembramos de que os confrontos entre o feminino e o masculino compõem um dos eixos da ficção de Nassar, não raro fortemente erotizada. A poética de Raduan Nassar esforça-se em ocultar o referente contextual e fazer o leitor perder-se em seu labirinto textual de pistas falsas ou bem guardadas. Daí a voracidade e a maneira em geral dissimulada com que se serve de textos tão distintos como os da Bíblia, do Alcorão, dos mitos gregos, da filosofia, da tradição hermético-alquímica, da literatura. Poética que opta por um caminho subterrâneo, sinuoso e indireto, entre a realidade e a ficção, e que leva em conta o fato de todas as questões humanas trazerem, sob a máscara da linguagem e o disfarce do cinismo, um componente fundamental de luta pelo poder e de controle de corpos. / This study aims to investigate how vertigo, lack of limits and excess intrinsic to eroticism shape Raduan Nassars prose in his complete works. In many senses, his fictional oeuvre stages the impossibility of truth before the plethora of written word possibilities. In general, the conflict amongst character has its complexity enhanced when one of them is also the one who speaks, compromised with the privilege of transmitting his or her single view of the facts. In the tension of an apology of unrestrained destruction of truth against the fierce defense of his or her speech itself lies a categorical statement of the narrators virility, which is, in most cases, carried out with violence. If that happens, it may be often due to a virility on the verge of collapse and, if so, empowered by both intensity and precariousness. This hypothesis is reinforced by the battle between feminine and masculine, often highly eroticized, which is one of the axes of Nassar fiction. Raduan Nassars poetics strive to hide the contextual referent and make the reader lose himself in its textual maze of false or shadowy tracks. That is the origin of the voracity and the stealthy way in which it alludes to texts as varied as the Bible, the Koran, Greek myths, philosophy, hermetic-alchemical tradition and literature. It regards the election of an underground, winding and oblique way between reality and fiction, and takes into account the fact that all human affairs bring as a key component, under the mask of language and the guise of cynicism, the struggle for power and the control of the body.

Este trabalho investiga a associação entre a violência e o feminino no cinema contemporâneo. Em virtude das mudanças nas formas de apresentação da violência feminina no cinema dos últimos anos, a primeira parte deste trabalho dedica-se, a partir das análises de Sedução e Vingança e Valente, a percorrer os caminhos que permitem considerar a especificidade do imaginário cinematográfico relativo à violência feminina e emergência de um novo tipo de personagem feminino, a guerreira, expressão do embate discursivo em torno da feminilidade da violência. Na segunda parte deste trabalho, composta pela análise dos filmes em que três personagens-ícone do período aparecem Nikita, Lara Croft e Beatrix Kiddo , dedica-se a chamar a atenção para as transformações e contradições que permeiam as diferentes caracterizações da guerreira. / This research investigates the connection between femininity and violence in contemporary cinema. While considering the changes in which female violence has been portrayed in recent years, the first part of the work explores, through the analysis of Ms. 45 and The Brave One, the particularity of female violence cinematographic imagery and the emergence of a new kind of character, the warrior. The second part analyses the movies that featured three distinct icons of this period Nikita, Lara Croft and Beatrix Kiddo exploring the transformations and contradictions relative to the stereotypical female violence aspects presented in these different warriors.

O neoconcretismo ocupa posição singular no panorama das artes plásticas no Brasil. O discurso hegemônico sobre o grupo, compartilhado por críticos de formação e extração diversas, enfatiza o caráter de ruptura e seu papel determinante para desprovincianizar a arte brasileira e inseri-la em linha de continuidade com as vanguardas construtivas européias. A proposta deste trabalho é acompanhar como o discurso a respeito do grupo, forjado inteiramente por seus membros, ganha consistência e transforma-se em guia para os intérpretes da geração seguinte, que tratarão de erigi-lo em mito fundador, com conseqüências importantes para a narrativa em torno da arte no país. A tentativa é investigar as condições de formulação desse discurso por parte das lideranças teóricas e em seguida indagar os motivos capazes de transformá-lo numa linha interpretativa vitoriosa na fortuna crítica sobre arte no Brasil. / Neoconcretism occupies a singular position in the panorama of the visual arts in Brazil. The hegemonic discourse regarding the group, shared by critics from different backgrounds and schools, stresses its impact and determinant role to insert Brazilian art alongside European construtivist avant-garde movements. This thesis traces the ways through which the discourse regarding the group, shaped entirely by its members, gains consistency and becomes the guideline for critics of the following generation, who will build it into a founding myth, with important consequences for the narrative about Brazilian art. The attempt is to investigate the conditions of formulation of this discourse by the leading figures of the neoconcrete group, and ask about the reasons the led it to become a winning interpretative path about art in Brazil.

A dissertação procura compreender o fenômeno da financeirização no âmbito do capitalismo contemporâneo. Uma série de transformações iniciadas nos anos 1970 assinalou o declínio do regime de acumulação fordista e a provável emergência de uma nova fase do capitalismo. Sua característica fundamental consiste em um movimento de financeirização, decorrente em parte de mudanças desenvolvidas na esfera financeira. Seus traços mais destacados são o aumento exponencial das transações, tanto em termos absolutos como em relação às atividades produtivas; a liberalização e desregulamentação de mercados e das atividades financeiras em todo o mundo; o surgimento de novos agentes e instituições ligados às finanças. Processo este que desembocou no aumento da importância do capital financeiro nos circuitos de valorização. O caráter recente deste fenômeno ainda não permitiu que fossem estabelecidos consensos teóricos sobre a questão. Por conta disso, a dissertação debruça-se sobre as obras de dois pensadores marxistas, François Chesnais e David Harvey, buscando estabelecer semelhanças, diferenças e, sobretudo, as complementaridades de suas contribuições. A escolha de Chesnais se impõe pelo papel destacado que o assunto ocupa em sua obra. Harvey, por sua vez, concede primazia à discussão das relações das finanças com os demais aspectos que caracterizam o capitalismo na atualidade. / The dissertation seeks to understand the phenomenon of \"financialization\" under contemporary capitalism. A series of transformations started in the 1970s which began out the decline of the \"Fordist\" regime of accumulation and the possible emergence of a new phase of capitalism. Its key feature is a movement of \"financialization\", which results in part from changes in the financial sphere. Its distinctive aspects are the exponential increase in transactions, both in absolute terms and in comparison to productive activities; liberalization and deregulation of financial markets and activities around the world; the emergence of new actors and institutions related to finance. This process led to an increased importance of financial capital in the circuits of valorization. This new moment has not yet allowed to establish a theoretical consensus on the issue. For this reason, the dissertation focuses on the works of two Marxist thinkers, François Chesnais and David Harvey, seeking to establish similarities, differences and, above all, complementarities of their contributions. Choosing Chesnais is imposed due to the prominent role the subject occupies in his work. Harvey, in turn, prioritizes the discussion of relations between finance and other aspects of capitalism today.

A pesquisa investiga o atual momento em que a topologia adquire uma posição especial dentro dos diálogos que a arquitetura historicamente têm estabelecido com outras áreas do conhecimento. Aponta e sistematiza aproximações contemporâneas com a topologia realizadas por arquitetos e desenvolve sua aproximação por meio da apresentação do conceito de diagrama processual topológico. Este conceito tripartite (diagrama, processo, topologia), é investigado em diferentes áreas como ciência cognitiva, lógica (matemática e semiótica) e filosofia, a fim de enriquecer a análise de sua atuação no campo da topologia. Nesta análise, o diagrama processual topológico é delineado como um meio operativo-representacional de relações espaciais estruturais (a topologia do objeto) que possui três variáveis: pensamento, espaço e tempo. Finalmente, este conceito é levado ao campo do projeto e da representação em arquitetura, construindo um diálogo crítico com o uso e a referência ao diagrama que fazem arquitetos contemporâneos paradigmáticos – Bernard Tschumi, Peter Eisenman, Greg Lynn, Rem Koolhaas, MVRDV, Ben van Berkel, Lars Spuybroek, dentre outros / This research aims to analyse topology’s state of the art. Nowadays topology is a key player in the dialogues that architecture has historically stablished with other areas of knowledge. This work points out and systematizes contemporary approximations with topology made by architects and developes their ideas by means of the concept of topologic processual diagram. This threefold concept (topology, process, diagram) is investigated in different areas such cognitive science, logic (mathematics and semiotics) and philosophy, in order to enrich the analyse of its actuation in the field of topology. In this analysis, the topologic processual diagram is described as an operative-representational medium of spatial structural relations (the object’s topology), with three variables: thought, space and time. Finally, this concept is investigated within the realm of the project and representation in architecture, building up a critical dialogue with diagrams, its use and reference, as performed by paradigmatic contemporary architects - Bernard Tschumi, Peter Eisenman, Greg Lynn, Rem Koolhaas, MVRDV, Ben van Berkel, Lars Spuybroek and others

O objetivo deste é trabalho é refletir sobre os modos de leitura da prosa contemporânea, a partir do romance Budapeste, de Chico Buarque. Investigaram-se os fatores que permeiam as discussões sobre a publicação da obra, em 2003, ressaltando a crítica jornalística que, por ocasião do lançamento do livro, apontou, por inúmeras vezes, o valor literário do texto de Chico Buarque, assim como do artista, e as leituras que se deram na universidade, espaço de criação e de difusão de diversos estudos, dissertações de mestrado e teses de doutorado, produzidos, na última década, sobre o romance. Desta forma, propõe-se uma análise da repercussão do romance Budapeste no cenário literário contemporâneo, a partir das críticas jornalísticas e dos trabalhos acadêmicos produções que se voltaram à divulgação ou à investigação do romance. A presente dissertação não se baseia na análise da história da crítica literária, antes, tece uma apresentação da produção crítica no Brasil, destacando a sua importância, como forma de contextualizar as discussões apresentadas / The objective of this work is to reflect on ways of reading of contemporary prose, exemplified, in this dissertation, by the novel Budapest, by Chico Buarque, from the perspective of criticism and academia. The factors involved in the discussions about the publication of the work in 2003 were investigated, emphasizing journalistic criticism that, at the launch of the book, inumerously pointed out the literary value of the text of Chico Buarque, as well as the artist and publications that proliferated at universities, which are spaces of creation and dissemination of various studies, dissertations and doctoral theses produced in the last decade about the novel. Thus, an analysis of the impact of the novel Budapest in the contemporary literary scene is proposed, using journalistic criticism and scholarly work productions that have aimed at the disclosure or the investigation of the novel. This work is not based on the analysis of the history of literary criticism, but rather weaves a presentation of the critical production in Brazil, highlighting its importance as a way to contextualize the discussions presented

The route proposed presents a theoretical review about the categories in question based on the authors Bachelard, Dewey, Araújo & Araújo, Teixeira, Wunenburger, Mirian Celeste Martins, Dias, Picosque, Raimundo Martins, Cocchiarale and Belidson, proposing a reflection on the imaginary, art and education; an extract of the context of contemporary art, highlighting some aspects of poetic imaginary present in artistic production from São Luís. It covers a survey of three prominent journals in the area of education and art: ANPED Brazilian Education Journal, Education and Society and Visuals on the categories under study in the temporal cut of 2000 to 2014. Discusses yet about the connections between visual culture and the cultural mediation in the contemporary context in art, interlacing concepts and experiences in the creative process of development of this research. Defines under which point of view the methodological path is traced, highlighting the experience as a starting point to guide them and the imaginary part of the construction of poetry of relations and processes of creation. As the North, he emphasizes a/r/tography as a methodological reference that relates the artist, the researcher and the educator as interconnected subjects in this process of analysis. Thus, the proposed reflection seeks to carry out a study of a hermeneutic phenomenological approach that if references in the new vision paradigmatic that proposes to overcoming the dichotomy between the sciences, suggesting a relationship between the categories cited by the analysis of narratives of mediators/educators and artists who work in the cultural scenario of São Luís-MA. Proposing also to construct possible paths for the pedagogy of the imaginary. Thus, 12 artists and 12 mediators / educators were selected, who act with expressiveness in the local scenario from 2014 to 2016, during the period of this research in the Master in Education of UFMA. Finally, it addresses the difficulties encountered in the process, the contributions of the perceptions and experiences of the path traveled, pointing to open dialogues for the continuity of the research. / O presente estudo busca refletir sobre as relações entre a arte contemporânea, a mediação e a cultura visual na perspectiva de identificar possíveis contribuições para à pedagogia do imaginário. O percurso proposto apresenta uma revisão teórica acerca das categorias em questão baseada nos autores Bachelard, Dewey, Araújo & Araújo, Teixeira, Wunenburger, Mirian Celeste Martins, Dias, Picosque, Raimundo Martins, Cocchiarale e Belidson, propondo uma reflexão sobre o imaginário, a arte e a educação; um recorte do contexto da arte contemporânea, destacando alguns aspectos do imaginário poético presente na produção artística ludovicense. Aborda um levantamento de três periódicos de destaque na área de educação e arte: Revista da Educação Brasileira da ANPED, Educação e Sociedade e Visualidades sobre as categorias em estudo no recorte temporal de 2000 a 2014. Discute ainda sobre as conexões entre a cultura visual e a mediação cultural no contexto contemporâneo em arte, entrelaçando conceitos e experiências no processo criativo de desenvolvimento da referida pesquisa. Define sob qual ponto de vista o caminho metodológico é traçado, destacando a experiência como ponto de partida norteador e o imaginário presente na construção poética de relações e processos de criação. Como norte, destaca a/r/tografia como referencial metodológico que relaciona o artista, o pesquisador e o educador como sujeitos interligados neste processo de análises. Para tanto, a reflexão proposta busca realizar um estudo hermenêutico de abordagem fenomenológica que se referencia na nova visão paradigmática de superação da dicotomia entre as ciências, propondo uma relação entre as categorias citadas a partir da análise de narrativas de mediadores/educadores e artistas que atuam no cenário cultural de São Luís-MA; propondo também construir possíveis caminhos para à pedagogia do imaginário. Assim, foram selecionados 12 artistas e 12 mediadores/educadores que atuam com expressividade no cenário local de 2014 a 2016, período de realização desta pesquisa no Mestrado em Educação da UFMA. Por último, aborda as dificuldades encontradas no processo, as contribuições das percepções e experiências do percurso trilhado, apontando diálogos abertos para a continuidade da investigação.

Ao apresentar criticamente ao público de língua portuguesa a obra da escritora irlandesa contemporânea Eavan Boland, por meio de uma seleção poética traduzida, que privilegia a visualidade e a ekphrase, este trabalho tece uma leitura intermediática (artes visuais e literárias) e verifica os efeitos de sentido da intermedialidade na construção do lirismo poético. Pressupondose a inevitável incomunicabilidade da linguagem, esta tese examina a intermedialidade, presente no processo de escrita entre as fronteiras do nacional e do cosmopolita e, sobretudo, do privado ao público e deste àquele, enquanto um recurso artístico, característico da pluralidade identitária da poesia, capaz de alcançar graus de comunicabilidade mais amplos, ou seja, menos deficitários. Por fim, a seleção de poemas aqui recolhidos traça o percurso íntimo da produção artística de Eavan Boland, momento em que os graus de articulação lingüística (seja por meio visual, verbal ou intermediático) assistem a uma suspensão de sua incomunicabilidade, e conseguem atingir esferas mais densas de sucesso comunicativo, fazendo vir à tona a natureza lírica da escrita: os movimentos concomitantes entre as esferas pública e privada referem-se à busca da interioridade, da subjetividade do eu-lírico, o auto-retrato da poetisa. Portanto, a partir do exercício interpretativo das traduções poéticas, bem como do estudo da intermedialidade, lê-se aqui a ekphrase como recurso poético na obra de Eavan Boland, capaz de metonimizar o transitar da voz poética na tradição irlandesa a partir de onde a poetisa fala, a nação irlandesa e a ruptura com essa tradição, a busca ao encontro do feminino, da voz da mulher e, acima de tudo, da voz poética enunciadora do fluxo comunicativo. / While presenting the work of the Irish, contemporary writer Eavan Boland to the public of Portuguese readers, by means of a poetic selection that privileges visuality and ekphrasis, this thesis establishes an intermediatic reading (visual and literary arts) and verifies intermediality´s effects of meaning in the construction of poetic lyricism. While presupposing language´s inevitable incommunicability, this thesis bears witness to the intermediality present in the process of writing in the frontiers of the national and the cosmopolitan and, above all, of the private and public and vice-versa, as an artistic tool, characteristic of poetry´s plural identity, which is capable of reaching broader, less deficient levels of communicability. Ultimately, the selection of poems here presented heeds to the intimate trajectory of Eavan Boland´s artistic production, which reveals levels of linguistic articulation (being them visual, verbal or intermediatic) that suspend its incommunicability and, then, are able to reach deeper spheres of communicative success, as it brings up the lyric nature of writing. The movements that go from the public to the private spheres of subjectivity refer to the search for interiority, for the self, the self-portrait in poetry. Therefore, from the interpretative exercise of the poetic translations, as well as from the study of intermediality, ekphrasis is here read as a poetic tool in the work of Eavan Boland, metonimic of the poetic voice´s transit within the Irish tradition, from where the poet speaks, the Irish nation and the rupture with such tradition, in search of the encounter with the Female, the woman´s voice and, above all, the poetic voice as enunciator of the communicative flow.

A aprendizagem torna-se vital para gestores que atuam em ambientes organizacionais envoltos em mudanças, complexidade, paradoxos e incertezas, permeados por inovações tecnológicas e desafiados por questões éticas, políticas, ambientais e econômicas. Este estudo propõe-se compreender os processos de aprendizagem de gestores e as implicações destas transformações em suas aprendizagens, nele integrando-se a teoria da aprendizagem transformadora, que enfatiza a reflexão crítica e o pensamento autônomo para analisar estas questões. Investigam-se, pela abordagem de história de vida, processos de aprendizagem de sete gestores e suas coletividades, em macrocontextos e em contextos específicos, integrando níveis de interação, aspectos objetivos e subjetivos. Os resultados revelam a interligação entre as aprendizagens ocorridas nos âmbitos profissional, pessoal e familiar, bem como entre desenvolvimento e aprendizagem, ao longo da vida. Destacam-se as aprendizagens envolvendo mudanças de esquemas de significados e transformações de perspectivas em mudanças profundas, além do papel da intuição e da emoção nesses processos. As mudanças contemporâneas que demandam aprendizagens incluem globalização e seus reflexos no contexto brasileiro; novas tecnologias; maior participação das mulheres no mercado de trabalho; responsabilidade sócio-ambiental. A análise das entrevistas dos sujeitos pesquisados evidenciou que estas mudanças implicam novos pensamentos, atitudes e sentimentos, nas carreiras e nos arranjos familiares. Neste movimento, são relevantes aprendizagens autodirigidas, constantes reciclagens de conhecimentos e superação de expectativas para o crescimento profissional. As carências de aprendizagem centram-se na ampliação de competências sociais relacionadas às interações (na gestão de pessoas, na criação e manutenção de networks e no equilíbrio entre as suas esferas de vida); à percepção de mudanças e previsão do futuro; ao autodesenvolvimento de paciência, de tolerância, de confiança e do controle da ansiedade, entre outros aspectos pouco contemplados pela educação gerencial. / Due to change, complexity, paradox and uncertainty in the organizational context, faced with technological innovations and with global ethical, political, environmental and socioeconomic problems, managerial learning becomes vital. The study aims to understand management learning processes and the implications of these transformations in their learning, integrating transformative learning theory, which emphasizes critical thinking and independent thought to analyze these issues. The life history approach is used to investigate processes of learning in macro contexts and in specific contexts, including levels of interaction, objective and subjective aspects of seven managers and their communities. The results show the link between learning occurring at the professional, personal and family levels as well as between development and lifelong learning. The study highlights learning process involving changes in meaning schemes and perspective transformation in deep changes, the role of intuition in complex problems and of emotion in these processes. Contemporary changes that require learning include globalization and its consequences in the Brazilian context, new technologies, the increased participation of women in the labor market and socio-environmental responsibility. These changes involve new thoughts, attitudes and feelings, in careers and family arrangements of the subjects studied. They also emphasize selfdirected learning, constant recycling of knowledge and the overcoming of expectations for professional growth. The learning needs focus on the development of social skills related to interactions (in the management of people, in the creation and maintenance of networks, and in the balance between their spheres of life); to the perception of changes and prediction of the future; to the self-development of patience, tolerance, control of anxiety and selfconfidence among other issues lacking in management education.

A pesquisa tem como objetivo principal estudar as formas de crescimento urbano da área metropolitana de Fortaleza, verificadas nas três últimas décadas (1980-2010). A investigação detalhada do processo preocupou-se em examinar e analisar as transformações relevantes ocorridas na estruturação do espaço urbano e metropolitano, buscando relacioná-las com os processos recentes de urbanização. O trabalho procurou, inicialmente, abordar aspectos teórico-conceituais referentes à urbanização contemporânea, quando foram buscados pressupostos teóricos necessários à compreensão da matéria, tentando correlacionar, sempre que possível, com as dinâmicas urbanas recentes da metrópole cearense. Em seguida, no sentido de melhor caracterizar o objeto de estudo, foram elaboradas uma descrição e uma análise da área metropolitana, investigando sua dinâmica socioespacial e dimensão econômica. Na sequência, foi enfocada e discutida sua forma de expansão urbana, a partir das transformações verificadas nas últimas décadas, tomando como base a análise dos diferentes vetores de crescimento urbano e metropolitano, com o intuito de verificar seu modo particular de desenvolvimento. Finalmente, optou-se por investigar com maior ênfase uma área em particular - o setor sudeste da Metrópole - onde se constatou ocorrerem espacialidades novas e padrões de tecido urbano diferenciados. Efetuada a análise dos diferentes vetores de expansão, ficou comprovada a hipótese de que o crescimento urbano atual da área metropolitana de Fortaleza já não se faz de modo homogêneo e apresenta dinâmicas próprias e diferenciadas, distintas do modelo centro-periferia, que predominou até a década de 1980-1990. O estudo demonstrou que existem, de fato, processos urbanos novos e inéditos e em conformidade com as formas mais recentes de urbanização, à semelhança do que ocorre em outras aglomerações urbanas do Brasil e do mundo. Essas dinâmicas são mais evidentes no setor sudeste da Metrópole, onde se verificam novos tipos de produção de centralidade e a presença de núcleos dispersos e descontínuos, formados por condomínios horizontais fechados e equipamentos turísticos, dispostos ao longo do litoral. Este setor pode ser caracterizado, no âmbito da Metrópole, como o mais representativo das novas formas de urbanização, indicando rupturas com o modelo tradicional de assentamento urbano. O propósito do estudo, enfim, foi identificar as características do processo de urbanização em curso, aprofundar essa análise e investigar as especificidades que esse conjunto de mudanças está assumindo na área metropolitana de Fortaleza. O exame da situação é fundamental para se buscar modos de lidar com essa nova realidade e para que sejam criados instrumentos que permitam subsidiar futuras propostas de planejamento e intervenções mais consistentes. / This work\'s main objective is to study Fortaleza\'s metropolitan area urban growth patterns that have been observed in the last three decades (1980-2011). A detailed investigation of that process was concerned to examine and analyze relevant transformations occurring in the structure of urban and metropolitan spaces, focusing on relating them to recent urbanization processes. First, this study approaches theoretical and conceptual aspects related to contemporary urbanization, stating a theoretical understanding of the subject, and tries to correlate that, when feasible, to Fortaleza\'s recent urban growth. Then, in order to better characterize the object of study, a description and an analysis of this metropolitan area are made by investigating the dynamics and socio-economic dimensions of that metropolis. The following approach and discussion deals with actual urban expansion of Fortaleza from a perspective of observed transformations in these past decades, based on the analysis of different axes of urban and metropolitan growth, intending to verify their particular pattern of development. Finally, this work focus on a particular area, in greater detail - the southeastern part of the metropolis - where new spatialities and different patterns of urban fabric are found. After analyzing different axes of expansion, the hypothesis that current urban growth of Fortaleza\'s metropolitan area has not been occurring homogeneously and it presents a particular dynamic and a distinctive center-periphery model, which prevailed in 1980\'s, is accepted. Further, this study finds some evidence that, indeed, there are new and unprecedented urban processes in accordance to latest forms of urbanization, similar to what occurs in other urban areas of Brazil and of other countries. This dynamic is more evident in the southeastern sector of the metropolis, where there are new forms of centrality formation, and the presence of more scattered and discontinuous nuclei, consisting of condominiums and tourist facilities displayed along eastern seacoast. This sector can be characterized as the most representative within the metropolis in terms of new forms of urbanization, indicating disruption of traditional urban growth patterns. The purpose of this study, in short, has been to identify characteristics of the undergoing urbanization process, to deepen the analysis and to investigate the specific set of changes that are taking over Fortaleza\'s metropolitan area. To examine actual urban growth pattern is essential to, both, discover ways to deal with this new reality and create tools to support more consistent future planning proposals and interventions considering urban expansion, in order to ensure proper functioning and development of contemporary metropolises.
