'FIGHTING IN THE GRAND CAUSE':A HISTORY OF THE TRADE UNION MOVEMENT IN ROCKHAMPTON 1907 1957Webster, Barbara Grace, b.webster@cqu.edu.au January 1999 (has links)
Research of a wide range of primary sources informs this work, including hitherto unstudied local union records, oral testimony, contemporary newspapers, government and employer reports. Conclusions reached in this dissertation are that while the founders of the local trade union movement shared a vision of improving the lot of workers in their employment and in the wider social context, and they
endeavoured to establish effective structures and organisation to this end, their efforts were of mixed success. They succeeded eminently in improving and protecting the employment conditions of workers to contemporary expectations through effective exploitation of political and institutional channels and through competent and conservative local leadership. However, the additional and loftier goal of creating a better life for workers outside the workplace through local combined union action were much less successful, foiled not only by overwhelming economic difficulties, but also by a local sense of working-class consciousness
which was muted by the particular social and cultural context of Rockhampton.

Formering för offentlighet : Kvinnokonferenser och Svenska Kvinnornas Nationalförbund kring sekelskiftet 1900af Petersens, Lovisa January 2006 (has links)
The thesis considers three women conferences arranged by the National Council of Women of Sweden (NCWS) in Stockholm at the turn of the 20th century. NCWS was a branch of the International Council of Women and at its height it was an umbrella-organisation for about forty Swedish women organisations. The focus is on the role of the conferences as arenas for women who wanted to prove their ability and competence in society. The content, the form and the function of the conferences are analysed. The question whether the conferences arranged by the NCWS reflected the ideas, dilemmas and strategies of the bourgeois women’s movement is addressed. A larger historical development is illuminated – the formation of the bourgeois women movements for the public sphere in the process of modernity. The thesis explores different theories and shows how the concepts of class, gender, public sphere, modernity and trans-nationalism were dealt with at the conferences. The women conferences have been treated as manifestations; as a quintessence of the ideas and ambitions of the movement. The thesis asserts that the ideology of the movements was formulated and expressed not only in spoken words, but also in festivities, symbols and sisterhood. The class identity was manifested in the form of which the conferences were conducted. On the one hand, the conference women showed loyalty to the conservative society and the rigid class position. On the other hand, the conference initiators wanted to improve women’s opportunities of becoming citizens and to move the boarders between the public and the private. Ideologies such as Internationalism and Scandinavism became important in creating a collective identity.

Druhý vatikánský koncil a jeho následovníci / Second Vatican Council and his followersPoslední, Petra January 2021 (has links)
In my thesis I came to several conclusions. Holy Fathers John XXIII., Paul IV. and Francis, who followed and related the legacy of II. of the Vatican Council to, are much more popular in society than the popes, who have a different opinion and do not support the last ecumenical council. The openness of the personality and the pope's approach to the church modernization is for public absolutely necessary. Another crucial aspect for today's church is for sure the media world.

Early Restoration Councils, 1830–1838: A Tool to Refine IndividualsDavis, Nicholas Andrew 01 December 2017 (has links)
When Joseph Smith founded the Church of Christ in April 1830, he also established the framework for councils, the decision-making mechanism of the early Church. Early councils included a group of men holding the priesthood and often included a congregation. They would gather and make authoritative decisions, including if someone accused of wrongdoing was guilty and should receive formal disciplinary action. As the Church grew, Smith further developed this council system. Elders and high priests frequently formed councils, which gradually gave way to bishop's councils. In 1834, high councils began to establish an appellate court where disgruntled Church members could appeal their case. Later, Smith formed other disciplinary bodies and gave them limited jurisdictional authority. Depending on where they lived, Church members utilized different councils. Kirtland and Missouri principally used a bishop and high council, while other outlying congregations relied primarily on elder and high priest councils. Notwithstanding these organizational differences, early Church councils exhibited several consistent patterns. They encouraged individuals to reform their behavior, provided progressive rights to women and children, and inspired confidence in the system, even though Church leaders sometimes disagreed with individual rulings. Although often overlooked, early Church councils played a pivotal role in protecting and developing Church orthodoxy and orthopraxy.

Certifierat fiske som lösning på komplexa problem : En kvalitativ studie om hur MSC konstruerar sin hållbarhetskommunikation. / Certified fishing as the solution to complex problems : A qualitative study about how the MSC constructs their sustainability communication.Petersson, Fanny, Eriksson, Lina January 2023 (has links)
This is a qualitative study with the purpose of contributing knowledge about how non-profit organizations construct sustainability communication. This has been done through analyzing how MSC construct their sustainability communication in relation to the following dimensions of sustainability: economic-, social-, and environmental sustainability. By doing a directed qualitative content analysis of MSC's external communication from their website and Instagram profile. The theoretical framework that has been applied to the analysis is the three sustainability dimensions, which also forms the themes of the analysis. The analysis was done using a coding scheme where categories, subcategories, and codes were identified in the material. The result of the analysis showed that the MSC portrays their communication through the three dimensions of sustainability in several ways. Additionally, their work is related to the theoretical framework of the study. However, there is room for further discussion on whether the MSC would benefit to use a more serious tone or not. Furthermore, the result shows that the MSC describes several problems that relates to the fishing industry. Although, their communication would be perceived as more believable if a more nuanced image of solutions were presented. Lastly, the result is discussed in relation to previous research followed by the conclusion, a reflection, and suggestions for future research.

Změna role předsednictví Rady EU po Lisabonské smlouvě na příkladu Maďarského a Polského předsednictví a jejich vliv na Východní partnerství EU / Change of the Presidency of the Council of the EU's role after the Lisbon Treaty on the Example of Hungarian and Polish Presidencies and their Influence in Eastern PartnershipVavricova, Linda January 2017 (has links)
The aim of this Master thesis was to find out whether the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union was able to exert influence in EU's external relations after the Lisbon Treaty has entered into force. Thesis was looking on two post-Lisbon Council Presidencies- Hungarian Council Presidency and the Polish Council Presidency and their influence in Eastern Partnership-the flagship initiative of both of these presidencies. Through the identification of the informal roles of the rotating presidency-agenda setter role and broker's role, the influence on the development of Eastern Partnership of both Council Presidencies was determined. The other factors such as the reputation of the presiding country, stable domestic political situation, ability to deal with unexpected developments have been considered as important pre-requisites for the Council Presidency to be able to exert influence through its informal roles.
