DNA Microarray Data Analysis and Mining: Affymetrix Software Package and In-House Complementary Packages

Xu, Lizhe 19 December 2003 (has links)
Data management and analysis represent a major challenge for microarray studies. In this study, Affymetrix software was used to analyze an HIV-infection data. The microarray analysis shows remarkably different results when using different parameters provided by the software. This highlights the fact that a standardized analysis tool, incorporating biological information about the genes is needed in order to better interpret the microarray study. To address the data management problem, in-house programs, including scripts and a database, were designed. The in-house programs were also used to overcome problems and inconveniences discovered during the data analysis, including management of the gene lists. The database provides rapid connection to many online public databases, as well as the integration of the original microarray data, relevant publications and other useful information. The in-house programs allow investigators to process and analyze the full Affymetrix microarray data in a speedy manner.

Tearing down the walls hindering colorblind developers : Assistance tool for colorblind developers

Larsson, David January 2019 (has links)
Out in the world, there are over a million colorblind developers and a lot more that are aspiring developers. Amongst them are colorblind developers that are hindered by their color blindness. Hindered in such ways as they do not have the confidence to design an application, due to them not being able to interpret colors in a similar way as other developers. There is also a fear of “can I be colorblind and be a programmer/web designer?”. With these walls stopping potential developers from advancing or doing certain things, we could lose out on some great developers for the future. In order to tackle this, I am creating a tool for colorblind developers to generate color schemes and mock color schemes in applications. As well as giving them a tool to look up RGB/HEX-values and receive the name of the color matching.

Developer zone : Kriterier för uppsättning och användning av en developer zone / Developer zone : Criteria for setting up and using a developer zone

Rengmyr, Joel, Lindström, Niklas, Johansson, Daniel January 2011 (has links)
Program: Systemarkitekturutbildningen

A Behavior-Driven Recommendation System for Stack Overflow Posts

Greco, Chase D 01 January 2018 (has links)
Developers are often tasked with maintaining complex systems. Regardless of prior experience, there will inevitably be times in which they must interact with parts of the system with which they are unfamiliar. In such cases, recommendation systems may serve as a valuable tool to assist the developer in implementing a solution. Many recommendation systems in software engineering utilize the Stack Overflow knowledge-base as the basis of forming their recommendations. Traditionally, these systems have relied on the developer to explicitly invoke them, typically in the form of specifying a query. However, there may be cases in which the developer is in need of a recommendation but unaware that their need exists. A new class of recommendation systems deemed Behavior-Driven Recommendation Systems for Software Engineering seeks to address this issue by relying on developer behavior to determine when a recommendation is needed, and once such a determination is made, formulate a search query based on the software engineering task context. This thesis presents one such system, StackInTheFlow, a plug-in integrating into the IntelliJ family of Java IDEs. StackInTheFlow allows the user to intervi act with it as a traditional recommendation system, manually specifying queries and browsing returned Stack Overflow posts. However, it also provides facilities for detecting when the developer is in need of a recommendation, defined when the developer has encountered an error messages or a difficulty detection model based on indicators of developer progress is fired. Once such a determination has been made, a query formulation model constructed based on a periodic data dump of Stack Overflow posts will automatically form a query from the software engineering task context extracted from source code currently open within the IDE. StackInTheFlow also provides mechanisms to personalize, over time, the results displayed to a specific set of Stack Overflow tags based on the results previously selected by the user. The effectiveness of these mechanisms are examined and results based the collection of anonymous user logs and a small scale study are presented. Based on the results of these evaluations, it was found that some of the queries issued by the tool are effective, however there are limitations regarding the extraction of the appropriate context of the software engineering task yet to overcome.

Adaptive Reuse of Industrial Buildings in Toronto, Ontario: Evaluating Criteria for Determining Building Selection

Wilson, Corey 21 April 2010 (has links)
Infill development, including the reuse of vacant and derelict industrial buildings, is a desirable form of development as municipalities face the pressure of continuous growth. There have been numerous industrial sites in Toronto that have already been redeveloped through adaptive reuse, but there are still sites that remain underutilized, and additional sites continue to become vacant across the city. As the prior use can no longer be supported, these buildings are demolished in order to construct new buildings, or they undergo adaptive reuse. The purpose of this report is to explain how the environmental, locational, legislative, market and financial characteristics of industrial buildings located in Toronto affect whether they are chosen for adaptive reuse. Additionally the similarities and differences between public and private sector adaptive reuse projects will be studied. This report will complement existing research completed by others on the characteristics of adaptive reuse projects in Ontario, and provide more specific information regarding the industrial adaptive reuse market in Toronto. The case study approach used in this report consists of eight industrial adaptive reuse projects in the City of Toronto. Interviews with the developers were completed to gain valuable insight into the factors that were present and affected the selection of the building. The analysis involved reviewing the data from the interviews to identify the similarities and differences between the characteristics of the developers’ projects. Based on the analysis of the interviews, four recommendations were made. These recommendations are provided with the goal of assisting developers during the selection of industrial buildings in Toronto to undergo adaptive reuse. Each recommendation considers the characteristic that a building and site should or should not possess. Recommendation 1: The site should not contain ground water contamination Recommendation 2: Use concrete buildings if planning an addition Recommendation 3: Select a building with interior demising walls removed Recommendation 4: Select a building that has financial or development incentives promoting reuse / Thesis (Master, Urban & Regional Planning) -- Queen's University, 2010-04-16 17:16:07.105

Trh realit Ruska / Real Estate Market of Russia

Rozenek, Yuliya January 2012 (has links)
The aim of the thesis Real Estate Market of Russia is to analyze the real estate market in the Russian Federation with a deeper exploration activities of foreign investors in the Russian real estate market. Thesis theme is very topical and interesting, because among other things, examines the impact of the financial and economic crisis on the real estate market and changes in the interests of foreign investors in the Russian investment projects in real estate and interests of Russian companies abroad. Currently, the real estate market in the Russian Federation is developing very dynamically, it can be said that over the years of crisis and financial instability signed on aggregate supply and demand for real estate in Russia very little. However, at the moment it is merely a statement - proof of this statement is to provide this thesis. The thesis analyzes not only the interest of foreign investors in the real estate market of Russia, but also the interest of Russian investors in the Czech real estate market. Already in the nineties of the twentieth century has seen a significant interest of Russian citizens on housing and commercial real estate in the Czech Republic. It is interesting to explore whether this interest persists to this day and the extent to which the Czech real estate owned by Russian citizens or legal entities whose members are Russian citizens. Another objective of this thesis is to evaluate the real estate market in Russia, with a focus on international development company. This objective will be gradually implemented through the analysis of the current real estate market and evaluate the activities of foreign investors of their share of development projects. The operational objective of the thesis is to evaluate the interests of the citizens of the Russian Federation on real estate in foreign countries (for example, the Czech Republic). Czech Republic was chosen as analyzed state due to good orientation of the author of the thesis in the Czech environment and find out the appropriate options detailed information about the problem. Sub-objectives will be achieved through a detailed analysis of the statistical data of the Czech Statistical Office and also the author's own analysis carried out "in the field". The main hypothesis of this thesis is the claim that the interest of foreign developers in the Russian real estate market is increasing. During the meeting the objectives of the thesis should be stated hypothesis to prove or disprove. The methodological basis of the thesis will consist primarily statistical analysis of data from the Czech Statistical Office and the Russian Federal Statistics Service, as well as data from the media and Russian companies. After selecting the appropriate data and information to analyze existing and ongoing development of real estate markets. Another method used in this thesis, the method of synthesis. With the synthesis of the work will examine the influence of individual factors (financial crisis, negative fluctuations in the economy of Russia, migration processes in Russia) on the real estate market of Russia. In the context of the activities of Russian citizens in the real estate market in the Czech Republic to examine the impact of the liberalization of laws and overall trends in immigration and migration policy of the Czech Republic in question increased interest of Russian investors in real estate projects. The work is logically divided into two parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part is focused on general characterization of the terms used in the thesis and their relationships. The theoretical part is to explain the main factors affecting the price of real estate and its variations. The practical part of the thesis focuses on the description and analysis of the current state of the property market in Russia and the Czech Republic. Among other things, describes the current development and privatization processes in Russia in 1990 - 2000. These analyzes and research are part of the practical part.

Architectural Agency Through Real Estate Development

Gondaliya, Hitali 15 July 2020 (has links)
In today’s world, architects are facing a problem of diminished control over the built environment. Across the industry, architects are forfeiting influence to developers, contractors, and lawyers due to increased concerns about innumerable risks. Architecture, for the most part, is dependent on other professions to create opportunities, and thus is not directly responsible for positive change. For architecture to accrue influence on how our built environment evolves into the future, it must understand and take a larger role within the real estate development process. The problem this thesis presents is that the position of architecture within this economics dominated power structure limits architects’ agency to affect a property’s use or influence its future use. The research delves into the standard development model, the real estate development process, design and construction, and operations of real estate practices in order to identify opportunities for architecture to engage in and enhance the process. This thesis proposes to understand a development process in Northampton, Massachusetts. It will illustrate that the opportunities and advantages of architect practicing as a developer to design and execute projects in the real world. Thus, for the research to be implemented through design, the chosen site includes several opportunities for a socially focused mixed-use development which responds well with the site and the surrounding context of Northampton.
