west mental deseases practices. First introducing the sociopolictical treatment imposed
to deviant bodies, from the end os meddle age to the irruption of psychiactrical
renovation; in a second moment, we approach part of the sociabilization scenario based
on abre brasil virtual discuss forum and its relationship wih schizophrenia into that
digital media resource, and third, last movement, highlighting the link between the
deviant body and psychotropic, problematizing the used medicine effects and the
implications on the current mental health politics, been essential to the analisys and
perspective of patient and family in which speeches and reports were collected from the
presential ABRE (Brazilian association of families, friends and the schizofrenia wrist
fracture person) discussion members. Therefore, we’re referring to the literature about
mental ilness, elaborated analysys from virtual group discussion, Abre_Brasil, and the
ethnographical researches realized into presential Abre group as well, where familiars,
caregivers and whose are classified as schizophrenic by the medical scientific agents,
they all find a place where they can share and exchange their experiences on social
interactions. So on, we discuss the recent methods of incarceration in the post-reform
age, problematizing, as well, the psichotropic, appointed the main responsible for the
estabilization and destabilization in schizophrenia. And last we close the reflection
through the polictical issues into these incarceral moviments, not completely closed yet / Nesta pesquisa trabalhamos três movimentos, divido em capítulos, acerca das práticas
para com a loucura no Ocidente. No primeiro, apresentamos o tratamento sociopolítico
imposto ao corpo desviante, que vai do final da Idade Média até a irrupção da reforma
psiquiátrica; no segundo, abordamos parte do atual cenário de socialização a partir do
grupo virtual Abre_Brasil e da sua relação com a esquizofrenia através da ferramenta
digital da internet; e, por fim, no último movimento, destacamos a relação desse corpo
com o psicofármaco, problematizando os efeitos do medicamento utilizado e as
implicações na atual política de saúde mental, sendo fundamental para a análise a
perspectiva dos pacientes e familiares cujos seus discursos e relatos foram coletados nos
grupos presenciais da Associação Brasileira de Familiares, Amigos e Portadores de
Esquizofrenia — Abre. Para tanto, recorremos às literaturas que tratam da questão da
loucura, às análises que elaboramos a partir do grupo virtual Abre_Brasil e às pesquisas
etnográficas realizadas nos grupos presenciais da Abre, onde familiares, cuidadores e
aqueles classificados pela ciência médica como portadores de esquizofrenia
compartilham de um espaço de troca e interação social. Sendo assim, discutimos as
novas formas de encarceramento na era pós-reforma, problematizando, também, o uso
dos psicofármacos que é apontado como o principal responsável pela estabilização e
desestabilização da esquizofrenia. Por fim, fechamos nossa reflexão por meio de uma
investigação política acerca destes movimentos que não cessou, por completo, a
existência do manicômio

Moldar a carne : a queerização do corpo no teatro de João Carlos CastanhaDelgado, Pedro Omar Lacerda January 2013 (has links)
Este estudo tem o objetivo de construir uma reflexão acerca do processo de corporificação de personagens transgêneros e das construções teatrais de um ator homossexual a partir de seu corpo cotidiano (conjugado). Para tanto, escolhi investigar os processos de criação teatral e de construção corporal de alguns personagens interpretados pelo ator João Carlos Castanha. Os corpos criados por esse ator ganham carne a partir de pedaços de corpos masculinos e femininos que resultam em corpos estéticos de sexualidade e gênero híbridos. Diante disso, desenvolvi uma pesquisa embasada em referencias teóricos que subsidiam a Teoria Queer, aliados a procedimentos metodológicos oriundos da pesquisa qualitativa. Assim, utilizei fontes impressas, imagéticas, entrevistas e observações durante a prática do trabalho do ator. Esse trabalho resulta de uma necessidade particular de me aproximar e de compreender essas construções corpóreas que acontecem em zonas periféricas num devir-teatral. Zonas essas que se constituem fora dos padrões dos gêneros masculino e feminino. / This study aims to build a reflection on the embodiment process of transgender characters and theatrical constructions of a gay actor from his real life body (conjugate). Therefore, I chose to investigate the working process and body constructions of the characters played by actor João Carlos Castanha. The bodies created by this actor gain flesh from pieces of male and female bodies that result in hybrid sexuality and gender aesthetics bodies. Therefore, I have chosen to develop a research grounded in theoretical and methodological references of qualitative research, as well as the thought that subsidizes Queer Theory. So, I made use of printed sources, imagery, interviews and observations during the practice of that actor's work. Therefore, this paper is the result of a particular need for the researcher to approach these body constructions that occur in peripheral areas in a becoming theater. Thus, those areas are constituted outside the standards of male and female bodies.

(Im)permanent body ink: the fluid meanings of tattoos, deviance, and normativity in twentieth-century American cultureFabiani, Christina 31 August 2017 (has links)
This thesis examines the symbiotic relationship between the meanings of tattoos and social norms through a comparative analysis of three distinct periods in twentieth-century American history. I use extensive archival material and an interdisciplinary approach to explain how the meanings of body ink shifted and to identify factors that influenced the public’s perceptions of tattoos as deviant or acceptable. In the 1920s and 1930s, tattooing practices among favored social groups, specifically military personnel, middle- and upper-class white men and women, and circus performers, generally received more positive reactions than those among lower-class and criminal subcultures. In the 1950s and 1960s, body ink became practiced primarily by marginalized individuals, such as criminals, bikers, and sex workers, and the general public’s understandings of tattoos as indicators of deviance and dangerous immorality strengthened. The new clientele and practitioners of the 1970s and 1980s mainly came from a high socio-economic status and reframed their tattooing practices as artistic expressions of individuality. I argue that, although body ink aesthetic by and large supported American values of patriotism, heteronormativity, and racial advantage, tattooing practices among ‘respectable’ groups were more accepted than those by ‘deviant’ subcultures. My research shows that the fluctuations between public rejection and appreciation of tattoos in these periods rested principally on the appearance and function of the inked design and on the position of the tattooed body in the social hierarchy. This thesis demonstrates that tattooing practices created and perpetuated but also destabilized and influenced gender-, race-, and class-based American ideals, and my research exposes the nuanced connections of body ink with deviance and normativity, the malleability of social conventions, and a complex web of power relations constantly in flux. / Graduate / 2018-08-23

The aim of this thesis is to describe and analyze the Swedish artist Marianne Lindberg De Geer’s public sculpture Jag tänker på mig själv in relation to the female nude as a traditional motif within the western art and aesthetic. The artwork in question depicts two naked upright standing women, one of whom is represented as emaciated and skinny and the other one as voluminous and fat. By using previous research on the subject of aberrant bodily representations as its main theoretical framework and with a methodological approach based on visual semiotics, this study has found that Jag tänker på mig själv is to be seen as a deviant representation of the female body in several ways. The way in which the female body is represented in Marianne Lindberg De Geer’s sculpture has shown to deviate not only from the traditional female nude but also from the visual norms that usually characterizes aberrant representations of the female-coded body.
