Damasceno Júnior, Jackson Bouéres January 2017 (has links)
This work has as central axis to understanding the different forms of State intervention, through public policies of agrarian reordering and its influence in the process of obtaining and using agricultural income. In this way, understanding even when public policies, specifically those aimed at agrarian reordering, must obey the local order. Since this order is constructed in such way as to meet the needs of these societies, bringing as a hypothesis of routing and solution the differentiation of the Policies taking into account social peculiarities. With the general objective of understanding how the different public policies aimed at rural development, specifically agrarian reordering policies, have influenced the process of income generation (agricultural and self-consumption) in cultural contexts and of diverse productive organization in three rural communities of the municipality of Presidente Juscelino/MA, being Boa Vista dos Pinhos, Juçaral dos Pretos and Folhal. The methodology used to carry out this work was initially the historical survey of the agrarian systems, with a view to understanding the agrarian and social structure in question, Later in another moment of the work, semistructured questionnaires were applied with the objective to obtaining qualitative and quantitative data on the process of generating monetary income. Self consumption, being found in this moment a new form of gains obtained through the organization and maintenance of the formal structure. Taking into account anthropological references was made reading of the process through the production of flour as a guiding axis and generator of the necessary conditions to generate development.

Development of a system for high throughput screening of agrochemicals affecting plant growth behaviour

Machin, Franklin Qasim January 2018 (has links)
Why don’t crop plants grow as fast as they should? In optimal conditions, elite crop varieties routinely outperform those grown in the average field. The vast majority of this reduction in growth activity is due to abiotic stresses such as drought, heat, and nutrient limitation. Abiotic stress reduces plant growth by triggering a reduction of meristem size and causing premature differentiation of proliferating cells. Differentiated cells are no longer able to divide, and smaller meristems have a reduced capacity to restore growth when the abiotic stress passes. We have designed and evaluated a novel high-throughput screening system to identify compounds able to reduce or prevent this premature differentiation in order to retain modest growth capacity in stressful conditions and enable rapid recovery from stress. Such chemicals can be applied to crop plants using existing agricultural methods, and because there is no need for genetic modification, it is widely applicable to many different crop species. Using the novel technique of flow sorting followed by protoplast culture, we have developed a high-throughput automated confocal imaging method to screen chemicals for their effects upon cell differentiation. Meristem protoplasts isolated from the root tips of pROW1:GFP Arabidopsis plants were monitored for differentiation when exposed to different chemicals. To evaluate this system, a library of biologically active small molecules provided by Syngenta was screened against protoplasts and whole plants. Several compounds were identified with the ability to improve Arabidopsis root growth in in vitro growth conditions. Two subsets of these chemicals were identified: a subset of chemicals that improved stress tolerance through modulation of post-meristem differentiation, and a subset of chemicals that improve growth rate by increasing rates of cell division in the root apical meristem. This screening system is able to detect the subset of chemicals that was shown to affect postmeristem differentiation, but not the other subset. No false positives were detected. These results suggest that this single-cell screening system is a powerful, high-throughput method suitable for the detection of molecules for use in crop protection.

Joana Sócrates Dantas 17 July 2015 (has links)
Backbone networks are responsible for long-haul data transport serving many clients with a large volume of data. Since long-haul data transport service must rely on a robust high capacity network the current technology broadly adopted by the industry is Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM). WDM networks enable one single ber to operate with multiple high capacity channels, drastically increasing the ber capacity. In WDM networks each channel is associated with an individual wavelength. Therefore a whole wavelength capacity is assigned to a connection, causing waste of bandwidth in case the connection bandwidth requirement is less than the channel total capacity. In the last half decade, Elastic Optical Networks (EON) have been proposed and developed based on the fexible use of the optical spectrum known as the exigrid. EONs are adaptable to clients requirements and may enhance optical networks performance. For these reasons, research community and data transport providers have been demonstrating increasingly high interest in EONs which are likely to replace WDM as the universally adopted technology in backbone networks in the near future. EONs have two characteristics that may limit its ecient resources use. The spectrum fragmentation, inherent to the dynamic EON operation, decrease the network capacity to assign resources to connection requests increasing network blocking probability. The spectrum fragmentation also intensifides the denial of service to higher rate request inducing service unfairness. Due to the fact EONs were just recently developed and proposed, the aforementioned issues were not yet extensively studied and solutions are still being proposed. Furthermore, EONs do not yet provide specific features as differentiated service mechanisms. Differentiated service strategies are important in backbone networks to guarantee client\'s diverse requirements in case of a network failure or the natural congestion and resources contention that may occur at some periods of time in a network. Impelled by the foregoing facts, this thesis objective is three-fold. By means of developing and proposing a mechanism for routing and resources assignment in EONs, we intend to provide differentiated service while decreasing fragmentation level and increasing service fairness. The mechanism proposed and explained in this thesis was tested in a EON simulation environment and performance results indicated that it promotes beneficial performance enhancements when compared to benchmark algorithms.

Granado, Laura Carmilo 13 April 2011 (has links)
Novas investigações nessa área poderão responder quanto à questão das possibilidades de generalização desta experiência / This paper aims to describe the attendance of a patient by using images related to her phobia in the clinical context. It is a proposal for a differentiated framing in psychoanalytic psychotherapy based on the theory of objects and transitional phenomena by Winnicott, which refers to an area where realities, both internal subjective and external objective contribute and constitute the area of play. The Freudian theory about anguish is reviewed from the very beginning when the phobia was considered a symptom which could appear in diverse mental disorders. The term anguish hysteria was proposed by Freud in 1909 to describe the nosological entity in which the phobia is the central question and whose mechanism is similar to that of hysteria. This work was developed by using the clinical method and a presentation of a detailed case study. A 37-year-old female patient sought treatment for arachnophobia. In her psychodiagnosis, the Drawing-and-Story Procedure by Walter Trinca was applied. Her psychotherapy was conducted in 19 attendances, for which two folders were arranged with the help of the patient, one with photographs that reminded of spiders and another with pictures of real spiders and webs. The case was understood as anguish hysteria and treated in a rapid and intense psychotherapeutic process. It is discussed that the imagery established an oniric language in the sessions and the oniric context is a field of symbolization, just like the area of play. The associations made with the use of images were predominantly around the spider theme; such associations were compared to the role played by fantasies in the dreaming activity, which is carried out by the waking consciousness, in relation to the latent content of dreams. It is discussed that the transitionality provided by the imagery allowed an activity of figurability and at the same time it would have allowed a process of thinkingby images, having images associated with words all along the way. The patient achieved her inner transformation, a re-creation of herself in which her sexual pulsion of death (in Laplanche\'s conception) was transformed from an objectalizing function (Green) into a sexual pulsion of life, with its processes of integration and synthesis, enabling the constitution of units and links. It can be considered that healing did take place, as proposed by Herrmann. It is concluded that the presentcase study demonstrated the potentiality of using images to favor symbolizations and elaborations within the psychoanalytic psychotherapy of phobias. Further investigations in this area may respond to the question of possibilities towards generalizing the experience reported herein

The Impact of a Multifaceted Intervention on student Math and ELA Achievement

Strachan, Olivean 01 January 2015 (has links)
Closing the achievement gaps in mathematics and English language arts (ELA) is an ongoing challenge for most New York City Public school administrators. One New York school experiencing this problem implemented a broad intervention including (a) the Children First Intensive (CFI) program, which includes using data to inform instructional and organizational decision-making; (b) added baseline and post assessments; and (c) differentiated instruction including student conferences. The effects of the intervention had not been evaluated within the context of implementation. The purpose of this quantitative study was to evaluate the impact of the multifaceted learning gaps' intervention on 6th grade student achievement in math and ELA. The framework used in this study was the Halverson, Grigg, Prichett, and Thomas data-driven instructional systems model. The comparative study design used paired t tests to examine the change in math and ELA achievement scores on a group of 6th grade students (N = 26), before after the intervention. Results indicated significant increases in the test scores of the students, suggesting that students' learning gaps were closed using their assessment results and differentiated instruction within the comprehensive intervention. Results were used to create a professional development handbook on using a multifaceted data-based approach to improve student achievement. Positive social change might occur by providing the local site findings on the outcomes of their approach and additional training on using the approach, which may ultimately improve the academic performance of all students.

Reforms in Relation to Research-Based Theories Resulting in Successful Test Results

Christian, Veronica Renee 01 January 2015 (has links)
The study school in Bibb County, Georgia had a passing rate of approximately 60% on 9th grade literature and composition End of Course Tests (EOCT). An instructional paradigm was needed to help provide quality instruction and facilitate students' efforts to meet the mandate for performance. Research supports differentiated instruction (DI), instructional technology (IT), Gardner's multiple intelligences, and Vygotsky's theory of constructivism as the foundation for quality instruction. This ex post facto study used a cluster sample to explore 2 questions. One research questions explored the effect of DI enhanced with IT on students' learning in 9th grade literature and composition class. The other examined the differences in EOCT scores between students receiving 9th grade literature and composition instruction through a traditional approach and those receiving instruction through DI enhanced with IT. One hundred and five 1st time 9th graders in a literature and composition class were divided into 2 groups. One received traditional instruction, and the other received differentiated instruction with technology. Pretests and EOCTs were analyzed using a t test to determine the difference between the 2 instructional practices. Both groups achieved statistically significant growth between the pretest and posttest; however, the treatment group scored a statistically significant 7.4-points higher on the posttest when compared to the controlled group's posttest. It is recommended that stakeholders read this study, revise budgets, and seek out grants to create classrooms addressing the needs of 21st century learners. Significant growth is obtained from instructional practices that include differentiated instruction enhanced with technology, and teachers must be trained in instructional practices that incorporate DI and IT in order to promote positive social change in the educational system.

The Effects of Differentiated Instruction on the Achievement Scores of Struggling Fourth Grade Readers

Boges, Carol Elaine 01 January 2015 (has links)
Identifying an effective instructional strategy to remediate struggling readers is a goal for educators. Differentiated instruction (DI) has received much attention as a possible strategy to rectify literacy problems, but quantitative research on its effectiveness is limited. This quantitative study used a quasi-experimental, nonequivalent, pretest-posttest design to determine if DI provided a significant difference in reading comprehension scores between struggling readers instructed with DI strategies and students instructed with whole group strategies. Philosophies grounded in cognitive constructivism constituted the theoretical framework for this study which examined the archival STAR reading assessment pre- and posttest instructional reading level scores of 120 regular education 4th graders enrolled in a Title I school during the 2012 - 2014 school years. According to the 1-way analysis of covariance, the difference in post mean scores of the 2 groups was not significant, although the standard deviation for both groups were high, suggesting that students' learning was connected to unexamined intra-individual differences rather than teaching method. Results and recommendations from this study might inform educators and stakeholders on the approaches to remediate struggling readers and the strategies to secure effective tutors for extended school hours and parental workshops. Addressing the needs of diverse learners in today's classrooms will help promote social change by decreasing the achievement gap that persists between struggling and proficient readers and increasing the number of students prepared to compete in a global society.
