Consensus, decision-making and the Anglican Church : a case study of decision-making in the Anglican Diocese of Canberra and GoulburnPaul, Ross G., n/a January 1988 (has links)
decisionmaking
in a free-associative, or non-imperative, organisation,
focusing on the Anglican Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn as a
case study. Because people choose to participate in the Anglican
Church as a religious community, it is postulated that they may
perceive its decision-making as being characterised by consensus.
Through an analysis of the organisational elements and the
participants involved in the decision-making process, their
inter-relationships are examined. By survey the biographical
nature of synod participants is specified and elites identified.
Finally, by case-decision analysis the process of decision-making
is explored, and the presence and use of consensus examined.
The study draws upon those members attending the 1988 session of
the Diocesan Synod of the Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn as the
population to be surveyed. Members of synod are also members of
the various decision-making groups in the diocese. Two recently
implemented decisions are used as case studies in order to
examine the process of decision-making in the diocese.
Results of the Synod survey are detailed at Chapter 4, and the
analysis of the case decisions is at Chapter 5. The study found
that there was an indication of an elite in the decision-making
structure and that a strong administrative agenda was promoted by
that group.
The study concludes by suggesting that there are similarities in
function between public, commercial and free-associative bodies
of comparative size in regard to elites, professionalism and the
lack of consensus in the decision-making process. The study also
concludes that the nature of elites may be similar to that
portrayed by the community studies school where the organisation
is sufficiently like a community in the nature of its interpersonal
relationships. The researcher suggests that the study
provided illumination about church management procedures and a
framework applicable to the study of other organisations.

The history of Tumelong Mission in the Diocese of Pretoria with specific reference to the period 1939-1996Kgomosotho, Daniel 11 1900 (has links)
During the period 1939 -1996 the Anglican Diocese of Pretoria sponsored Missions in disadvantaged
commun ies served by the Church. Socio-economic factors were largely responsible for the situation
of disempowered communities which lacked adequate resources in the spheres of education, healing
and commundevelopment This dissertation deals with Ekutuleni as a first model for later Missions in
the Diocese. The Mission at Sophiatown was established in 1927 and has ever since provided a
paradigm for the Anglican Chunch's involvement with disad.vantaged communities of the Transvaal.
The Chunch was able through the Work of Ekutuleni to meet the needs of the people of Sophiatown.
In 1939 Tumelong Mission was established by the Anglican Church at Lady Selbome, Pretoria. The
work of the Mission is evaluated against the background of the Anglican Church in the Diocese of
Pretoria. The dissertation puts Tumelong ir1 the context of the communities of Mabopane, Temba and
Ga-Rankuwa. Finally it puts Tumelong in the wider context of missions in the Transvaal. / Theology / Th. M. (Church History)

Previous issue date: 2017-08-28 / Funda??o de Amparo ? Pesquisa do Estado da Bahia - FAPEB / The struggles for land tenure in the extreme south of Bahia occurred in a scenario of transformations of the agrarian structure throughout Brazil, which led to the emergence of conflicts in the countryside. These confrontations, in turn, in cases like the one of this baiana region had the interference of the Catholic Church, who acted in the organization of rural workers, settlers, small proprietors and fishermen, so that they could deal with the ongoing capitalist offensive. Moreover, the actions of the clergy extrapolated the actions of an organizational, character enabling their direct involvement in conflicts, which resulted in threats from ranchers to a priest and bomb attacks on a church, in vigilance of the activities of the Diocese of Caravelas by the National Information Service (NIS), as well as the targeting of violence to rural populations in the region, with beatings, torture and arbitrary arrests, but also with confrontations by rural workers, settlers, smallholders, in different spheres of social and political life and with the constant support of the bishop of the Diocese of Caravelas, dom Filipe Tiago Broers and some religious like frei Elias Hooij and priest Jos? Previous issue date: 2016-02-15 / The biblical formation in the Diocese of Goiás, in the second half of the twentieth
century, has been noticed for its evangelical commitment to the impoverished ones.
The Rural Education is a recent reality as public policy. As a practice of social
movements, it is a strong presence in the decade of 1960. This presence is seen in
various social movements and practices of some pastoral church activities. The
socio-political practices were part of the church of the Basic Ecclesial Communities
(CEBs) which has adopted the liberation theology. The aim of this research is to draw
a parallel between the biblical formation in the Diocese of Goiás and the rural
education. The reporting period precedes its existence: 1967-1998. The analysis
proposes to check the characteristic presence, in the work of the Diocese, which is
remarkable in future rural education. The hypothesis is that the biblical formation in
the Diocese of Goiás is the predecessor of rural education. This hypothesis is
proven, in this research, by the similarity in the methodology, the theoretical
approach and the aims to achieve and, even more, in the shown results. The method
used is the qualitative analysis, using description and analysis of research sources
produced by the pastoral work of the Diocese of Goiás. There is also a rich source of
academic research already conducted on the pastoral work of the Diocese of Goiás.
The research starts from fundamental concepts such as Catholic Action, Rural
Education, Liberation Theology, Basic Ecclesial Communities (CEBs), and popular
reading of the Bible. The thesis is proved by the effective connection of the work of
Diocese of Goiás with the life of the peasant. The appreciation of their knowledge,
their culture, their concrete life. This means that the same methodological theoretical
basis was used in the Diocese of Goiás and for the future rural education. The
pedagogy of the oppressed by Paulo Freire is used both by the Diocese and the
Rural Education as a teaching manual for its action. Agrarian reform is a key element
in the drawn aims for the education field. This same aim is expressed in diocesan
assemblies and social pastoral plans, especially for pastoral land. Finally, the
concrete result is presented by the large number of settlements in the area of
Diocese of Goiás. This reality allowed the permanence of the farmer in the field and
the viability return for those who had been driven out by large landowners and
agribusiness.
A Educação do
As práticas
verificar características semelhantes. O período analisado antecede a existência da
educação do campo: 1967-1998.
do camponês.
Isto possibilitou a permanência do

Previous issue date: 2016-03-10 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / This paper explore some issues experienced within the Roman Catholic Diocese of Santo André, located in the region known as the largest industrial park of Latin America, ABC Paulista, at the metropolitan area of the city of Sao Paulo, between 1964 and 1980, period of Civil-Military Dictatorship in Brazil. For this analysis, we considered social initiatives discussed, above all, from the Second Vatican Council, and with more vehemence, in Latin America, in the meetings of the Episcopal Conferences of Medellin, 1968, and Puebla, 1979.
Based on actions promoted by Don Jorge Marcos de Oliveira and Don Claudio Hummes, we have tried to go through important historical moments about the struggle of the workers of the region and the support offered by the Catholic Church, through its movements, in a period of economic recession, social problems, political repression and intolerance by the Brazilian State.
To understand this context, we get support on historical and critical reading about the period, documents that retains vestiges of that time, subject who lived their experiences that time and pastoral guidance documents from the Catholic Church
The Don Jorge Marcos de Oliveira and Don Claudio Hummes initiatives influenced the actions of the working class in ABC Paulista and participated in the process of reorganization of labor unions in the late 1970’s, resulting in big strike movements that, therefore, reflected in the process of political opening / O presente trabalho explora algumas das questões vivenciadas no âmbito da Diocese de Santo André, localizada na região, então, conhecida como o maior parque industrial da América Latina, no ABC Paulista, zona metropolitana do Estado de São Paulo, entre os anos de 1964 e 1980, período de Ditadura Civil-Militar no Brasil.

Religião e política: construção da memória de Dom Adriano Hypólito / Religion and politics: the construction of memory of Don Adriano HypólitoAlexander de Souza Gomes 31 August 2012 (has links)
In this thesis I discuss the interdependence between religion and politics in the context of the pastoral action of Nova Iguacu Diocese in the bishopric of Don Adriano Hypólito. In 1966 he was chosen diocesan bishop. In the discourse and social practices performed by Don Adriano Hypólito we observes the basis of this interdependence. The aim of this research is to analyze the speeches given by the bishop in documents as "A Folha" and "Boletim Diocesano" to measure its position in relation to faith and politics. Through interviews with priests and engaged laity we seek to rescue the memory of the Bishop of Nova Iguaçu, which in function to their posture and "preferential option for the poor, suffers persecution and was tortured under the Civil-Military Dictatorship in Brazil. To corroborate these elements, we try to make an anthropological analysis of the memorial, which was built a year after his death. Note that the objects that are on this memorial, materialize as a place-memory, is translated into a politico-religious language. Thus, we try to find that space as Don Adriano memorial is being transmitted and how his pastoral work is recovered. The research also seeks to recover the speeches of Bishop Adriano and contribution thereof to the formation of the laity that through awareness and training bases in the Church will engagein social movements, political parties and trade unions
