Společensko-historické souvislosti československo-vatikánských styků po roce 1945 / Socio-historical context of the Czechoslovak-Vatican diplomatic relations after 1945

This dissertation deals with the Czechoslovak-Vatican diplomatic relations since 1945 up to the departure of internuncio Saverio Ritter from Prague. The dissertation deals with the events connected with the Catholic Church in Czechoslovakia and Vatican since the end of the World War II until 1948 and resultant breaking of the diplomatic relations in 1950. The dissertation pays attention to the restoring of diplomatic relations after the World War II. A part of the dissertation is devoted to the expulsion of the German minority and the associated problems relating to the Czechoslovak-Vatican diplomatic relations. There are also outlined initial disagreements of Czechoslovakia and Vatican. There are also sketched problems between Czechoslovakia and the Church such as the confiscation of property of Church, educational reform in church schools or revision of the land reform and the response of Vatican. The dissertation presents the important ecclesiastical and political events that took place in postwar development. There is observed the gradual development of mutual relations and their deterioration to complete interruption. The key sorces were the materials from the Archive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic in Prague and reports by Czechoslovak and Vatican diplomats. A part of the dissertation is also focused on the problems that occured in Czechoslovakia and Vatican diplomatic relations.

Každodenní život císařských vyslanců v Polsku v druhé polovině 17. století / Everyday life of the imperial envoyes in Poland in the second half of the 17th century

The presented diploma thesis deals with the theme of everydayness of imperial diplomats working in Poland in the second half of the 17th century. The basic source for the research is the preserved personal correspondence of six diplomats from the period concerned. The author of the thesis also takes note of prints, leaflets and prescriptive manuals for diplomats of the era. One of the main objectives of the work is to clarify how the imperial envoys perceived the parliamentary tradition and practice of Polish-Lithuanian state and also how they were personally involved in the affairs of the Seim and royal court. An essential part of the work is the analysis of a diplomat´s audience with the Seim, fractionalism of the Seim and the envoy´s interaction with the sovereign during both official and unofficial events. Other important part of the thesis is an interpretation of the symbolic meaning of festivities which the imperials diplomats at the Polish court took part in e.g. weddings, funerals, elections and coronations. The work also focuses on the private component of the diplomat´s mission and its most important institution of "patronage and good friendship", owing to which many locked doors could have been entered and which enabled diplomats having the security of the financial support of their mother country. Informal activities of diplomats comprised also travelling within legation and different related dangers. The author also deals with the health condition of diplomats and the ways their health problems influenced their daily routines during a diplomatic mission. Last but not least part of the work treats the Habsburg diplomat´s perception of Polish, Russian and Tatar people and the communication network of imperial envoys.

The present work is a contribution to the history of the Early modern diplomacy and early modern diplomatic practics. The subject of this work is the diplomatic misson of Baltasar de Zúñiga at imerial court (1608-1617). The study focuses on description of embassy functioning based on an analyses of official documents produced by the embassy itself, which were in several instances complemented by some of the documents produced by the Spanish governmental bureucracy such as, instructions, credentials, consultas or correspondence addressed to the hands of ambassador Baltasar de Zúñiga. As such, the present study is a kind of introspection, because it shows the functioning of a diplomatic mission from inside. The aim is to aswer the following questions. What part of the day-to-day work of a specific embassy could be seen, and controled by a sending government. How the chosen sources represent the basis of the Spanish policy in the Holy Roman Empire, the instruments used to increase the reputation of the Spanish king and the reputation of the ambassaror himself.

The diploma thesis aims to analyze the online communication of the Czech Centres and propose a new strategy of its online communications. The theoretical part is focused on the usage of different internet marketing techniques, popular online communication channels and new trends in this field. Principles of cultural diplomacy are explained briefly to reveal the background and the mission of the Czech Centres. The core of the work is in the detailed description of the institution's online communication mix and analysis of its main competitors -- Slovakian, Polish and Hungarian Institutes. Research conducted by the author explores the attitude and opinion of employees on related topics. The thesis is concluded with the SWOT analysis and proposal for a new strategy of online communication. It sets goals, target groups and based on that suggest changes in the usage of online communication channels. The thesis strives to answer where the current position of the Czech Centres in the online world is and suggests improving it by strategic use of online channels, web redesign and increased activity on social networks.

The diploma thesis deals with nation branding in the context of economic diplomacy and puts a special emphasis on Spain. The main purpose is to provide an answer to the following question: "Is the Spanish reputation-building project Marca Espaňa launched in 2013 beneficial for country's performance in economic diplomacy area and is it possible to observe any results despite a relatively short time period?" Chapter one concentrates on theoretical issues and apart from defining relevant basic terms it provides a theoretical relationship between the concepts of economic diplomacy and nation branding. Chapter two examines the Spanish system of economic diplomacy and nation branding and underlines their interconnection on the practical level. Chapter three analyses the contribution of the Marca Espaňa project to Spain's economic diplomacy and examines Spain's performance in nation branding, overall economic competitiveness and exports through a detailed analysis of various international ranking and official statistical data.

The master´s thesis deals with the possibility of enforcing human rights through the instruments that are primarily used to pursue economic interests of the state, specifically illustrating these possibilities within the context of the World Trade Organization. The thesis presents the theoretical understanding of the concept of national interest and the relation between the economic and human rights interests of the state. It also focuses more closely on the relation between trade liberalization through the activities of the WTO and the protection of human rights. The thesis also describes the possibilities of pursuing human rights through already existing processes within the WTO, namely through the accession process, the trade policy review mechanism, trade agreements based on the Generalized System of Preferences and last but not least, the use of general exceptions and dispute settlement mechanism.

This diploma thesis focuses on the analysis of the Czech economic diplomacy towards Mexico. The aim of this thesis is to answer two questions; whether the relevant representatives of Czech companies doing business in Mexico know the protagonists of Czech economic diplomacy and whether these companies use the services provided by those protagonists. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the theoretical definition, history and functions of economic diplomacy. The practical part is divided into two different chapters, the first one focuses on the mutual trade and agreements between the two countries. The third chapter concentrates on Czech economic diplomacy towards Mexico and includes a survey regarding the knowledge of the protagonists of Czech economic diplomacy by the companies and their usage of the protagonists services.

Soft power belongs to younger concepts in international relations theory and is mostly mentioned in correlation with specific states. But in today's world it is possible to study it in connection with other membersof international system. This master thesis deals with an analysis of the soft power of the European Union (EU) as a whole, which is one of the significant and visible players in the world. Except theoretical definition of the notion the thesis introduces analysis of the essential sources and tools of the EU's soft power. The last part of the thesis is dedicated to observationof current position of the European Union in international relations with respectto soft power. The aim of the thesis is to identify key sources and tools of the EU's soft power, evaluate it and to think about whether the EU as a community of countries can be compared to some particular countries from the view of reputation measured by soft power.
