Baudin, Grégoire 05 June 2018 (has links)
This article thesis aimed to identify environmental risk factors (ERF) that are associated with the onset and the prognosis of non-affective psychotic disorders, in a French context. We based our work on Howes and Murray’s sociodevelopmental-cognitive model, and the sensitization model. Our results showed that one area-level environmental risk factor, namely the economic deprivation, and several aspects of childhood traumas, an individual ERF, are associated with an increased risk to develop psychotic disorders. Furthermore, we identified childhood traumas and cannabis consumption as modifier factors for these disorders. Finally, we sought to link our previous results, the two original models, and conceptual inputs from the theory of structural dissociation of personality in a coherent, clinically useful, and biopsychosocial framework. Our results suggest that both arealevel and individual environmental risk factors are involved in the onset and poor prognosis of psychotic disorders. They open perspectives for new therapeutic strategies.

Hur fungerar en glaselektrod?

Claesson, Jenny January 2013 (has links)
To understand the glass electrode needs knowledge from more than one level. The construction ofthe glass electrode is one part, an other is the composition and structure of glass. The Nernstequation have an important role, but also the sources of errors in the analysis and the calibration ofthe glass electrode. Focus for this article is how the glass electrode really works and how Gibbs freeenergy made the potential dependent of the concentration of H+and gives the logarithm to thefunction. Nikolskii's ion exchange theory starts to explain the question about how the potentialcreates and Baucke's dissociation mechanism made it more explicit. The big different in theequations from the both theories respectively is the meaning of the constants, but for practical useof the glass electrode in analysis it is not important when the value of the constant is given bycalibration. This is not an excuse for that fact that the dissociation mechanism is more completethan the ion exchange theory in the understanding of the glass electrode.

Du Plessis, Amanda Linda January 2005 (has links)
Because of the inability to deal with traumatic and stressful situations it often happens that a person dissociates. These people then 'move out of the situation', so to speak. The dissociated person can be spiritually, emotionally and physically handicapped for life. In the long term it often results in depression, feelings of guilt, relationship problems, social maladjustment, as well as addiction to medication. Pastoral counselling to this person (as part of a multidisciplinary approach) often results in a decline of the symptoms and a normalisation of the person's situation. From the basis-theoretical research it became clear that throughout history God is present in a very prominent way in the life of the individual. Right from the very beginning at conception, until old age, He is intensely involved. God created man in His image but through sin this image was distorted. Because of His love for man, however, He fulfilled His promise of restoration and healing in and through Jesus Christ. It appears that knowledge regarding the phenomenon of dissociation dates back to as early as 400 BC. Research since the early 1990's onwards resulted in numerous publications, articles and books being written on the topic of dissociation. In thls study, emphasis was placed on a number of such relevant contributions. The specific characteristics of the dissociated person, practical guidelines for counselling hirnlher as proposed by psychology, as well as pastoral psychologists were discussed. It became evident that contributions and research in the field from a psychological perspective seem to be much more advanced compared to what has been done by theologians to date. For this reason it is imperative that pastoral counsellors become more acquainted with the theme of dissociation. With regard to methodology, the eclectic approach proved to be the best option. This will enable the pastoral counsellor in hidher guidance of the dissociated person to draw on the wealth and variety of contributions and perspectives fiom both the psychological and the theological domains. As a result of and flowing forth from the basis-theoretical and meta-theoretical perspectives, practice-theoretical guidelines were formulated according to which pastoral guidance can be provided to the dissociated person. Special emphasis was placed on a multidisciplinary approach where full recognition was given to the possible contributions by psychologists, psychiatrists, medical doctors and others. As part of the preparation for counselling the dissociated person, attention was given to the importance of prayer support. With regard to the counselling process itself, the following five phases appeared to be of significance: introductory prayers, consultation and discussion, prayer as part of the therapeutic process, the development of life skills, and spiritual growth after the therapeutic process. Because of the cultic and ritual abuse that some victims have been exposed to, it is possible that apart from fragmented sub-personalities, demonic influences may also be present. It is thus of extreme importance to distinguish between these two areas, and the counsellor must be well equipped with the necessary knowledge and experience to handle this complicated issue. From this study it became evident that there is a special need for pastoral guidance of the dissociated person by counsellors who are well acquainted with the complexities of this field. Scientific knowledge, together with a pastoral focus as well as total dependence upon the therapeutic power of the Holy Spirit, is indeed a 'winning recipe'. / Thesis (M.A. (Pastoral))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2006.

Photosensitive alkoxyamines : synthesis and photochemical studies for potential application in nitroxide-mediated photopolymerization

Morris, Jason 07 December 2016 (has links)
The work reported herein details the synthesis, as well as the photophysical and photochemical analysis, of novel unsubstituted benzophenone-, methoxy substituted benzophenone-, pyrrolidine substituted benzophenone-, fluorenone-, anthraquinone-, phenyl-, naphthyl- and anthracenyl-based photosensitive alkoxyamines for potential application in nitroxide-mediated photopolymerization. The high photochemical stability of the isoindoline class of nitroxide was exploited within the structural design. Fusion of the isoindoline motif into the examined chromophores facilitated efficient energy transfer between chromophore and alkoxyamine motifs, whilst exerting minimal influence on the photophysical properties of the investigated chromophores. Photochemical investigation of the examined alkoxyamines highlighted two new classes of photosensitive alkoxyamines which displayed highly desirable photo-dissociation efficiencies to afford nitroxide and alkyl radicals under UV and visible light irradiation. Specifically, styrenic, methacrylic and acrylic naphthyl-based alkoxyamines, as well as, styrenic and methacrylic anthraquinone-based alkoxyamines demonstrated near quantitative yields of photo-dissociation under UV and visible light irradiation respectively. The high yields of photo-dissociation obtained for the naphthyl- and anthraquinone-based systems, as well as the high photochemical stability of their corresponding nitroxides, indicate these new classes of photosensitive alkoxyamines are highly relevant candidates for further investigation within a photopolymerization context.

Thermalisation dans une nanogoutte : évaporation versus réactivité / Thermalisation in a nanodroplet : evaporation vs reactivity

Salbaing, Thibaud 26 September 2019 (has links)
From a macroscopic point of view, the matter is made up of a very large number of molecules but the action of radiation acts through the electrons located on a molecule and thus, creating locally and on short time scales a situation clearly far from the thermodynamic equilibrium. Studying molecular nanosystems under irradiation provides access to understanding of how the energy deposited in a molecule will be redistributed into the system through interactions between surrounding molecules. The velocity distributions of evaporated molecules measured for irradiated protonated methanol nanodroplets have a bimodal behaviour, as observed for water, including evaporation of molecules with much higher velocities than expected after complete redistribution of energy. In addition, a reaction in the cluster leading to the formation of protonated dimethyl-ether with elimination of a water molecule was observed. The possibility of studying the competition between molecular evaporation and an elimination reaction following irradiation of a nanodroplet will contribute to constrain the hypothesis on the formation of prebiotic molecules under interstellar conditions. The results for the water-methanol mixed nanodroplets were compared with those obtained with pyridine doped water nanodroplets and protonated water nanodroplets. Analysis of the low velocity part of the velocity distributions of the evaporated water molecules shows that evaporation occurs before the complete redistribution of energy in the cluster. It appears that there is less energy available for evaporation of a water molecule when the initial excitation is located on the protonated methanol ion or on the pyrimidium. Thus, unlike the hydronium ion which is fully solvated, impurities promote the growth of these small water clusters, whose presence in the atmosphere facilitates the early stages of aerosol formation

Hamel, André 07 1900 (has links)
The primary focus of this thesis is the notion of what I have termed elemential (élémentiel) dissociation associated with spatialization, particularly in instrumental music. It includes four compositions accompanied by scores and recordings, as well as a written text comprising the analyses of the four works presented. In Chapter I, the text presents the notion of elemential (élémentiel) dissociation, explains that it arises from the autonomy of musical elements in relation to each other, and contextualizes the influence of the composer Charles E. Ives' approach upon my own. I also address the importance of musical spatialization and the concept of the complex sound landscape. Additionally, I delineate some examples of the dissociation of elements in the repertoire and draw a parallel to electroacoustic music. Chapter II elaborates upon elemential (élémentiel) dissociation as much in terms of technical processes as of writing and formal structure. Chapter III deals with auditory perception in elemential (élémentiel) and spatialized contexts with regard to psychoacoustics, as well as possible areas for further research. The following chapters are comprised of the analyses of the four works presented: 21 courtes pièces sur des textes d’Étienne Lalonde, L’Être et la réminiscence, Les passants et L’autre (le cor étranger).

Quantum control of molecular fragmentation in strong laser field

Zohrabi, Mohammad January 1900 (has links)
Doctor of Philosophy / Department of Physics / Itzhak Ben-Itzhak / Present advances in laser technology allow the production of ultrashort (≲5 fs, approaching single cycle at 800 nm), intense tabletop laser pulses. At these high intensities laser-matter interactions cannot be described with perturbation theory since multiphoton processes are involved. This is in contrast to photodissociation by the absorption of a single photon, which is well described by perturbation theory. For example, at high intensities (≳5×10[superscript]13 W/cm[superscript]2) the fragmentation of molecular hydrogen ions has been observed via the absorption of three or more photons. In another example, an intriguing dissociation mechanism has been observed where molecular hydrogen ions seem to fragment by apparently absorbing no photons. This is actually a two photon process, photoabsorption followed by stimulated emission, resulting in low energy fragments. We are interested in exploring these kinds of multiphoton processes. Our research group has studied the dynamics and control of fragmentation induced by strong laser fields in a variety of molecular targets. The main goal is to provide a basic understanding of fragmentation mechanisms and possible control schemes of benchmark systems such as H[subscript]2[superscript]+. This knowledge is further extended to more complex systems like the benchmark H[subscript]3[superscript]+ polyatomic and other molecules. In this dissertation, we report research based on two types of experiments. In the first part, we describe laser-induced fragmentation of molecular ion-beam targets. In the latter part, we discuss the formation of highly-excited neutral fragments from hydrogen molecules using ultrashort laser pulses. In carrying out these experiments, we have also extended experimental techniques beyond their previous capabilities. We have performed a few experiments to advance our understanding of laser-induced fragmentation of molecular-ion beams. For instance, we explored vibrationally resolved spectra of O[subscript]2[superscript]+ dissociation using various wavelengths. We observed a vibrational suppression effect in the dissociation spectra due to the small magnitude of the dipole transition moment, which depends on the photon energy --- a phenomenon known as Cooper minima. By changing the laser wavelength, the Cooper minima shift, a fact that was used to identify the dissociation pathways. In another project, we studied the carrier-envelope phase (CEP) dependences of highly-excited fragments from hydrogen molecules. General CEP theory predicts a CEP dependence in the total dissociation yield due to the interference of dissociation pathways differing by an even net number of photons, and our measurements are consistent with this prediction. Moreover, we were able to extract the difference in the net number of photons involved in the interfering pathways by using a Fourier analysis. In terms of our experimental method, we have implemented a pump-probe style technique on a thin molecular ion-beam target and explored the feasibility of such experiments. The results presented in this work should lead to a better understanding of the dynamics and control in molecular fragmentation induced by intense laser fields.
