Dynamic modelling of a power transfer unit of all-wheel drive vehicle in a 1-D simulation environment / Dynamisk 1-D modell av en kraftenhet till en bil med allhjulsdrift

Ambalavanan, Shivanand January 2018 (has links)
A Power Transfer Unit (PTU) of an All-Wheel Drive system is a hypoid gearbox whichis a driveline component, used to distribute power from the powertrain to all the wheelsof a vehicle. The gearbox dynamics is closely related to the gearbox noise and vibration, especially tonal noise like gear whine. The source of this vibration is referred to as thetransmission error in the unit. Transmission error is attributed to various geometricaland operating conditions, which if mapped mathematically, allows the designer to reducethe error by varying the design parameters. The demand in the automotive industry toreduce time to market is high. A lot of time can be saved if system performance can beassessed at the concept stage, even before the detailed design. This is where system-levelsimulation plays a key role. 1-D or system simulation technique studies the dynamicbehaviour of the system in one dimension. This greatly simplies the model and allowsfor the exibility to get early estimates of the system behaviour with respect to time andfrequency. Here, such a system model is built for a hypoid gear based driveline system. This work aims to build a 1-D system model of the PTU and study the dynamic behaviourof the response. The evaluation helps in understanding the capabilities on 1-D systemmodel in simulating a specialised product dynamic characteristics. LMS AMESim wasthe commercial tool used in building the system model. Existing components from thesoftware library were used to build a sketch of a simplied, lumped mass model of thephysical system. The model was then simulated in both the time domain and frequencydomain through a temporal and linear analysis respectively. It is observed that the system model is very useful in early modelling of a system and itsinteractive eects. The fundamental harmonic of the transmission error is predicted wellin the system model. The clutch connect/disconnect behaviour can also be seen in therotary velocity response of the gear. The system eigenfrequencies and mode shapes wereobtained from the linear analysis.

Choosing the right Learning Management System : A requirements-based comparative study at a small consulting firm

Ekman, Therese, Soori, Celina January 2023 (has links)
There are several hundred Learning Management Systems (LMS) avaliable today. In order to decide which LMS is a good fit for a specific company, it is important to define a list of requirements for an LMS. The purpose of this thesis was to construct a list of requirements for a small consulting firm and test a selection of LMSs. An additional purpose was to evaluate the list of requirements against previous research on the area of digital learning and learning in LMSs. The thesis' result might help other companies to evaluate LMSs in comparison to their needs.  The requirements were found by conducting eleven interviews with employees at the consulting firm and their customers, and performing a thematic analysis on the interview data. The criteria for selecting LMSs was a free trial period and suitability according to the company's business requirements. The LMSs chosen for detailed testing were Techable, Thinkific, AddWisdom and Learnifier. The result showed that AddWisdom fulfilled all high priority level requirements. However, Techable and Thinkific fulfilled the majority of the company's functionality requirements. In the analysis, deficiencies in the list of requirements were found, which are important to take into account in the future.

Academics' adoption and usage of learning management systems in Saudi Arabia's universities

Alshammari, Mohammed S. January 2015 (has links)
Learning Management Systems (LMS) have become a common feature in contemporary Higher Education institutions worldwide. LMS literature shows that the level of interest and/or knowledge among academics towards the importance and usefulness of these systems, and the opportunities they can bring to the teaching process are key factors affecting the degree of use of LMS in HE. To date, most of these studies have taken place in the context of developed countries, and there is only limited research in other areas. In recent years, LMS have been adopted widely in Saudi Arabia’s Higher Education sector, however, there are no strong and detailed data regarding the subject in this context, which could impede future developments. On the other hand, academics were chosen as the main focus of this investigation because studies have revealed that they have the most vital role in promoting and enhancing the use of LMS. Therefore, this research investigates academics’ adoption and usage of LMS in Saudi Arabia’s universities; it aims to understand the adoption conditions and identify what factors truly affect the adoption process and to what level are the systems being used and why. The investigation was guided by Grounded Theory research principles. Initially, a review of the literature identified the nature of LMS along with the issues confronting academics when they are trying to use it to its full potential in supporting the delivery of their courses. Afterwards, questionnaires were employed to further explore the phenomenon in its examined context, i.e. Saudi higher education. The generated data and concepts were then used to guide the research process and to develop interview questions. The interviews were carried out at three Saudi universities with a range of stakeholders, which signified the primary data source in this investigation. Analysis revealed that LMS did not emerge as a well-established component of academics’ activities in Saudi universities despite the positive view respondents expressed towards it. Findings also explained why LMS was either considered a secondary method to support face-to-face teaching, or under-utilised in fully online courses. Furthermore, findings revealed the primary factors influencing academics’ level of use of LMS. Moreover, there were issues identified in relation to the academics’ development and training for LMS, which had a significant effect on the academics’ level of use of LMS. Findings were then integrated into a substantive theory and a theoretical model, which represents the research primary outcome. The theoretical outcomes offer abstract explanation of the phenomenon about adopting innovatory systems in Saudi universities, LMS in this instance. In conclusion, suggestions for improving the current provision of LMS in Saudi Universities are made. Overall, this study provided an insight into the environment surrounding the early adoption phases of LMS in Saudi universities, which offers a better understanding of the phenomenon. Subsequently, this will help enhance the adoption process in current contexts and assist in the better future utilisation of these systems in similar situations.

Virtualaus mokymo aplinkos pritaikymas informatikos studijoms / Adaptation of virtual learning environment for informatics studies

Pranckutė, Danutė 15 June 2011 (has links)
Šių laikų studentai nuotolines arba pusiau nuotolines studijas vertina ypač teigiamai. Patiems dėstytojams nebelieka kito pasirinkimo, kaip rengti savo studijų dalykus virtualiose mokymo/si aplinkose. Šio darbo tikslas yra pritaikyti virtualaus mokymo aplinką informatikos studijoms. Pagrindiniai uždaviniai – išanalizuoti dėstytojų poreikius; poreikių padengimą tradicinėmis Moodle priemonėmis ir papildomais moduliais; suformuoti eksperimentinę Moodle sistemą su įdiegtais papildiniais; sukurti tipinių dalykų grupių prototipus pateikimui Moodle sistemoje. Darbe analizuojama problema: virtuali mokymo/si aplinka (VMA) savo turimomis standartinėmis funkcijomis, neišpildo tikrųjų specifinių dėstytojų poreikių. Problemos sprendimui rasti atliktos dvi dėstytojų apklausos, išanalizuoti ir apibendrinti apklausų rezultatai. Remiantis apklausų rezultatais sudarytas reikiamų funkcijų sąrašas bei jų realizavimui atrinkti ir įdiegti Moodle papildiniai. Darbe pateikiamos papildinių įdiegimo ir naudojimo instrukcijos, sudaryti kiekvieno papildinio privalumų ir trūkumų sąrašai. Prie kai kurių funkcijų pateikta daugiau nei viena alternatyva. Darbas baigiamas sukonkretintomis išvadomis. Remiantis šiuo magistriniu darbu, sistemą bus pasiūlyta naudoti jau egzistuojančioje Vytauto Didžiojo Universiteto Informatikos fakulteto virtualioje mokymo aplinkoje (VDU IF Moodle), taip patenkinant dirbančiųjų dėstytojų esamus poreikius. / The nowadays students think of distance or blended learning studies very positively, so the lecturers are forced to prepare their teaching material in virtual learning environments (VLE). The aim of the study is to adapt virtual learning environment for studies of Informatics. The objectives of the study are to analyze the needs of lecturers; to examine the needs’ realization by standard Moodle tools and additional modules; to formulate experimental VLE Moodle with installed additional tools; to create the typical group subject prototypes for VLE Moodle. The study analyses the problem: VLE with standard functions does not fulfil the real, specific needs of lecturers. In order to find the problem solution, 2 surveys of lecturers were performed, survey results were analyzed and summarized. Based on the surveys’ results, the list of necessary functions was created and additional VLE Moodle tools were analyzed, chosen and installed. The instructions of tools installation and usage are described; lists of advantages and disadvantages of each additional tool are created. Some of the functions have more than one alternative suggested. The study is finalized with concrete conclusions. Based on this study, the existing VDU IF Moodle (VLE of the Informatics faculty, Vytautas Magnus University) will be suggested to be updated in order to fulfil the existing needs of Informatics faculty lecturers.

Frequency Analysis of Rottne Comfort Line

Grzeszczak, Jan, Płygawko, Michał January 2014 (has links)
The European Parliment stipulated regulations concerning the forestry vehicles operators' health and working conditions. The allowed whole body vibrations were limited, which influenced the design of the vehicles' cabin. Surveys show a strong correlation between operator's comport and their productivity. The object of the research was Rottne AB Comfort Line Cabin, which was designed to increase the comfort for the forwarder operators. The main objective was to determine the cab's inertia properties, position of the centre of gravity and the resonance frequencies of the cab as well as a system consisting of the cab and its suspension. The methods used were an impact test with Mass-Line Analysis for the cab's properties and Operational Modal Analysis for the system. For both tests a Leuven Measurement System was used, but a part of the calculations were made in parallel by use of a MATLAB code written for this thesis. In addition a suspension test was made to estimate the centre of gravity and it was here treated as the reference value. The authors used reference values and the quality of the obtained results to compare the methods used. Further proposals for future research were made together with hints how to use vibration tests more effectively.

Learning Management Systems (LMS) Case study on an implementation of an LMS and its perceived effects on teachers.

Andersson, Torsten January 2019 (has links)
Learning Management Systems (LMS) is a widespread information system used in many Higher Education Institutes (HEI) in order to facilitate educational efforts. The system can be used for support in campus courses; courses conducted on the Internet and of course a mixture of these usages. This study attempts to understand the process of the implementing an LMS at a specific HEI. The HEI has made several implementations over the last 6 years, but decided to implement a new LMS during 2018. The focus of the study is the perceived effects on teachers in the implementation and the role a group of so-called Ambassadors played in the implementation. The study applied a social constructivist approach, mixing interviews, observation and survey as methods for data collection from teachers and implementation project management at the HEI. The study applied thematic analysis in order to analyse the collected data. The analysis built on five themes, Ambassadors, Implementation, Major concerns, Pedagogy, and System Literacy. Findings suggest that time management issues created the major effect on the daily work of teachers and that the group of Ambassadors in their role acted as a form of change agents, thus influencing the implementation project positively. Findings also suggested that only a few teachers took the opportunity to apply new pedagogical features to their teaching, in connection with the implementation. Finally, findings suggested that, in line with previous research, that the LMS is not used fully, as some teachers tends to use only minor functionalities in the LMS.

En indirekt metod för adaptiv reglering av en helikopter / An indirect approach to adaptive control of a helicopter

Jägerback, Peter January 2009 (has links)
<p>When a helicopter is flying, the dynamics vary depending on, for example, speed and position. Hence, a time-invariant linear model cannot describe its properties under all flight conditions. It is therefore desirable to update the linear helicopter model continuously during the flight. In this thesis, two different recursive estimation methods are presented, LMS (Least Mean Square) and adaptation with a Kalman filter. The main purpose of the system estimation is to get a model which can be used for feedback control. In this report, the estimated model will be used to create a LQ controller with the task of keeping the output signal as close to the reference signal as possible.Simulations in this report show that adaptive feedback control can be used to control a helicopter's angular velocities and that the possibility to use an adaptive control algorithm in a real future helicopter is good.</p>

Adaptive Antenna Arrays for Satellite Mobile Communication Systems

Beyene, Dereje, Degefa, Befkadu January 2010 (has links)
<p>Adaptive antenna arrays have a great importance in reduction of the effect of interference and increase the capacity for the mobile satellite communication. Interference and multipath fading remain a main problem for reception of signals. These two problems obviously affect the overall capacity.  Adaptive antenna arrays in the handheld mobile apparatus will be the solution for the above two problems.</p><p> </p><p>Satellite mobile communication is one of the growing fields in the communication area where terrestrial infrastructures are unable or ineffective to supply. Maritime, aeronautical and land mobile are some of the applications. During natural disasters where ground services are stopped, mobile satellite communications has great importance. Following the hurricane season, the Asian Tsunami and the devastating Haiti earthquake, mobile satellite communications had played a great role to fill the communication gaps.  The satellites can be tracked automatically by adaptive antenna array when it moves in its orbital plane.</p><p> </p><p>In this thesis the methods that how the adaptive antenna array combats interferers is presented and simulated using MATLAB software. The performance of the adaptive antenna array is evaluated by simulating the directivity pattern of the antenna and Mean Square Error (MSE) graph for different scenario like Signal to Interference Noise ratio (SINR), number of iterations, antenna array elements and convergence factor (μ), assuming the signals are coming from different Direction of Arrival (DOA).</p><p> </p><p> </p>
