Channel 2, Denton, Texas: A Retrospective

Felber, Mark D. 08 1900 (has links)
This study explored the evolution of Denton's VHF educational television assignment Channel 2, from its inception on April 14, 1952, to September 2, 1977. The problem was to discern why the channel remained inactive for twenty-five years. Chapters explore the attempts of broadcast interests to acquire control of the channel, and discuss why they were unsuccessful. The study concludes that a lack of finances, combined with the apathy and self-interests of Denton's educational leaders, prevented the channel's utilization. Federal Communications Commission policy allowed Denton's educators more time to raise money for a Denton station. Other conclusions suggest that the channel not be reassigned and that it be activated.

A survey of storage of audio-visual materials in eight educational television stations

Unknown Date (has links)
"Most stations probably keep various materials in order that they may be used again. Because there is a definite saving of time if materials are stored systematically and are readily available, the question arises as to how the various educational television stations in the country maintain a record of what they have produced and obtained in the way of audio-visual materials which will probably be useful in later programming. The purpose of this study, therefore, is to: (1) determine what types of audio-visual materials educational television stations store; (2) learn of the physical arrangement of the storage of these materials; and (3) ascertain if these materials are indexed, and, if so, in what manner. In order to answer these questions, it was decided that a survey of the methods of storage of audio-visual materials in educational stations at least five years old would be attempted"--Introduction. / Typescript. / "June, 1961." / "Submitted to the Graduate School of Florida State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science." / Advisor: Ruth H. An Approach to Teaching Adults to Play Beginning Piano through the Use of Educational Television

Fore, Katherine Ellen Moser 08 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this paper is to establish a need for more accessible fine arts courses offered to adults and more specifically in music, to design a series of programs that would give an introduction to beginning functional piano through the use of educational television. The paper includes ten lesson outlines for thirty minute program segments including a pilot script. This educational television series is designed to stimulate the student's continued playing of the piano with guided instruction through class or private lessons. A particular method of piano pedagogy used for educational television is explored. Procedures followed in order to be able to film the project are also covered, It is suggested that a survey in the particular viewing audience area be conducted and tests given to a cross-section of adults before implementation of the program.

En granskning av Utbildningsradions program ur ett mångfaldsperspektiv : En kvantitativ innehållsanalys av 50 program för årskurser 0-3

Ranta-aho, Riikka-Helena January 2011 (has links)
Utbildningsradion (Swedish Educational Broadcasting Company) is a public service broadcaster with a mandate to produce and distribute educational programmes. 80% of Swedish teachers use its products either during lessons or for professional development. Utbildningsradion’s guidelines, set by the Swedish parliament and government, state that the company’s programmes should meet the interests of the country’s whole population, regardless of their background. The purpose of this study is to examine how Utbildningsradion’s products that are intended to be used in a classroom setting for ages 6 to 9 represent the variety of children that live in Sweden and thus reflect the aforementioned guidelines. The main focus of this research project was further defined to only include the company’s television programmes produced in Sweden between 2006 and 2011 that do not have social issues as the main subject. 50 programmes were analyzed using quantitative content analysis and the following results were further interpreted using mainly Kydd’s and Snead’s models for discussing representation. The findings indicated that girls are overrepresented in the material studied as the cast of 116 children consists of 74% young actresses and 26% young actors. 46 of the programs have a child as the main character, but it is a boy in only three cases . Children with disabilities are almost non-existent in the programmes. Also, children from ethnic minorities have few roles. Most of the programmes studied take place in an urban setting, while four of the 50 feature countryside. When it comes to the child characters’ families, fathers are the ones who are seen the most frequently. They are shown 21 times in the programme material, while siblings are shown eight times and mothers six times.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Neptune_NordahlChristian_D.pdf: 1352842 bytes, checksum: 9d7ad827c4901910648a1320b02e4df1 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2011 / Resumo: A televisão pública no Brasil constitui o objeto central da Tese. The objective is to evaluate possible alternatives that enable its economic and cultural sustainability; business models, ways of financing and promotion. A milestone in the history of Brazilian television was the creation in 2007, of EBC - Empresa Brasil de Comunicação, witch is subject to TV Brasil, whose mission is to coordinate effectively the first Rede Nacional de Televisão Pública (RNTP), consisting of broadcasting stations at the level of country, state and county. Decrees and Laws of the Federal Constitution, governing the public broadcasting system in the country are insufficiently and the majority obsolete. In addition to extensive revision in the regulatory sector, it is necessary to clearly define the management rules, models and functions for the three television systems: the state, public and private. Among the resources used in the research methodology are the oral (records courses, congress, seminars, lectures, forums, workshops), the textual (e-mails interviews, literature review, books, magazines, journals, annals, theses, dissertations, articles, decrees, laws and searches of recent documents) and the audiovisual (TV, video and internet) / Doutorado / Artes Visuais / Doutor em Artes

A comparison of two teaching methods using instructional television for a survey course in clothing and textiles

Brna, Marilyn Dianis 07 April 2010 (has links)
In 1972, an instructional television (lTV) course entitled Clothing and Man was formulated by the Clothing, Textiles and Related Art Department in cooperation with the Learning Resources Center at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Discussion groups and a course outline were developed to aid students in learning the required subject matter presented by the lTV lectures. Through these components, and others such as the course syllabus, stated objectives, slides, and textbooks, a systems approach to lTV has been developed. As a component part of a system in this form of educational technology, instructional television is more likely to be an efficient tool for learning. lTV has worked best when it was used as an integral part of the learning activities (Chu & Schramm, 1967; Diamond, 1964). An orientation to learning with television lecture (Hutchinson, 1973) was developed specifically for the course to aid students in studying the subject matter. In the present format of the course, the orientation lecture precedes the presentation of the television lectures. / Master of Science
