The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the main characteristics of the process of environmental training in Brazilian organizations, drawing a parallel between the theory and business practice. Therefore, we carried out a review of the literature on environmental management, their motivations and developments in the business environmental and on human resources management, its practices and contributions to effective environmental management, specifically on the theme of environmental training and main characteristics. This theoretical foundation was used to construct the guiding questions of the interview that was applied at the stage of empirical research on the form of a multiple case study in five Brazilian large-sized companies possessing ISO 14001 certification. The results allow to rank the companies in three evolutionary stages of environmental management proposed by Jabbour and Santos (2006) and propose evolutionary stages to the environment training, classifying the cases in these stages. The courses offered are: Little Innovator Environmental Training, Internally Innovator Environmental Training and Externally Innovator Environmental Training. It was found that there is evidence of co-evolution of the stages of environmental management and environmental training.

In Brazil, the Higher Education Institutions (HEI), are the leading builders of environmental educators, and in them are also discussed and problematized the new social and environmental demands. In this scenariohave the teachers who work directly with environmental education, namely, fruit of a formation occurred precisely in these HEIs. The purpose of this paper is to analyze how the students egresses of degree in Biological Sciences, who are the key players in the school environment to address environmental issues, see themselves in their training in EA. For this, we used the Theory of Social Representations (TSR), knowledge socially formed, based on building a reality relevant to a particular group. Data collection was performedby conducting a focus group, where a group discussion wasconducted, obtaining thus verbal data, cognitive, emotional, and ideological representations. Then the data were treated from the codification of Grounded Theory, in which the collection and analysis of data is simultaneous. For this analysis, the unit theme, with the assumptions of the Content Analysis. As a product of this, it has three main categories, which deal with the attributes of the EA, the quality of training, and training structure, where the highlight was both the layman and media discourse onthe EA, the concepts, procedures and attitudes of faculty members and the insufficiency of disciplines, research and extension programs that deal with EA, and interdisciplinarity in environmental training. The results point to the latest Political Curricular Project (PCP)from the Biological Sciences Course of Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), which, based on the representations of students, requires adjustments that may behold the new demands of an environmental teaching formation, interdisciplinary education, aiming the formation of a teacher to a more sustainable society.

Part of the problem lies in the process of proper segregation and disposal of RSS, which directly involves the internal and external dimensions of the generating institutions of this specific class of waste. This research emerged from the questioning about the need for higher education institutions to improve the environmental education process, particularly regarding the RSS theme in the training of future professionals. The general objective of the study was to approach the knowledge related to the RSS theme in the process of training the students of the Dentistry and Nursing courses of the Institutions of Higher Education of the Municipality of Francisco Beltrão - PR. To this end, it was specifically carried out: survey and bibliographical analysis of the legislation pertinent to RSS; diagnosis and analysis of the knowledge that the academics of the superior courses of Dentistry and Nursing have on the RSS; elaboration of informative materials on segregation, packaging and identification of the RSS for the training of the students of the Dentistry and Nursing courses. In order to reach the objectives, a questionnaire with open and closed questions was applied to 78 (seventy eight) students of the undergraduate course in Dentistry of two Higher Education Institutions and 33 (thirty three) students of the undergraduate Nursing course. At the end of the research, it was possible to conclude that despite the current nature of RSS Environmental Legislation and the knowledge demonstrated by the students of the Dentistry and Nursing courses regarding the types of RSS, it is possible to affirm that the definitions and classifications are not totally clear for the students, as they presented doubts about the proper segregation and disposal of the waste; to the professional responsible for the management of the waste generated; as well as the need for treatment prior to final disposal. In view of the research, it was observed the importance of developing a teaching methodology in order to overcome the lack of information, guide and standardize the operations involving RSS and the management carried out by health professionals in the context of the assistance provided to the population.

Safety, health and environmental risk culture: a manufacturing case study

Naidoo, Chandaragasen Armugam January 2015 (has links)
Introduction: This study considered the role that safety, health and environmental (SHE) risk culture should play in the improvement of SHE risk management. The study focused on the perception of SHE risk culture at management and non-management levels in a manufacturing organisation in South Africa. SHE risk culture was viewed in terms of tone from the top and operational understanding of the risk management process. Method: A SHE risk culture questionnaire was created based on information available in the academic literature. The aim of this exploratory questionnaire was to assess the status of the SHE risk culture within the targeted organisation and to recommend improvements. The questionnaire included items designed to assess five aspects of SHE risk culture: understanding of the SHE risk approach; understanding of SHE risks and controls; SHE risk involvement and buy-in; communication; and governance, leadership and accountability. The target group for this study consisted of operations personnel and risk and SHE employees at different levels in the company. Survey data were obtained from 224 employees from a wide range of jobs in the company. Results: The data from the Likert-scale items in the questionnaire showed a number of significant differences between the perceptions of managers and non-managers with respect to the status of the SHE risk culture in the organisation. These differences indicated that management felt more comfortable with their understanding of the SHE risk approach, of the actual SHE risks, and of risk management controls than the non-management group. Also, management showed greater support for, and buy-in to, the SHE risk approach than the non-management group. In addition, participants shared their views of how the SHE risk culture in the organisation may be improved. The top five recommendations were: improve communication on SHE risk culture; standardise the SHE risk management approach; enhance SHE risk-related training to build capacity and understanding; emphasize the significance of leadership’s approach to embedding the SHE risk culture; and acknowledge the importance of involving employees in the development and implementation of the desired SHE risk culture. Conclusion: This study illustrated the importance of a number of factors required to improve the SHE risk culture in the organisation both in terms of tone from the top and operational understanding of SHE risks: they include well-structured communication; standardising and simplifying SHE risk management; SHE risk capacity building; and encouraging employee participation when developing and improving the desired SHE risk culture. The central role played by leadership to set the tone from the top and lead by example when implementing the desired organisational SHE risk culture was also highlighted by the participants. Practical application: This study provides evidence-based guidance for the manufacturing sector on how to evaluate and improve a desired SHE risk culture. The paper also shows how the concept of risk culture can be applied to SHE risk culture. The questionnaire used in this study can be used by management teams wishing to get an understanding of the prevailing SHE risk culture in their organisations. The results of the survey can be used to inform change interventions to improve the existing SHE risk culture in the organisation studied. The questionnaire should also be useful for further research on the concept of risk culture and in particular SHE risk culture.

Lietuvos mokyklų iniciatyvų atliekų rūšiavime vertinimas / Waste Sorting Initiatives of Lithuanian Schools

Nemčinskaitė, Daiva 07 February 2011 (has links)
[toliau žr. visą tekstą] / The waste problem is now recognized as the most important and difficult area of environmental protection. Waste collection and initial sorting depends largely on the goodwill and awareness of society, so education and training of society are very important. In respect that the environmental education is an assumption for a success of waste sorting, it can be argued that one of the tools to implement it is schools’ initiatives. However, there is a problem that the focus on the implementation of these initiatives is not sufficient because the schools’ waste sorting initiatives are not evaluated and analyzed in order to determine their effectiveness. In this paper this problem is solved on the basis of scientific literature and data of empirical study. In the first section of paper it is discussed the role of environmental education on a purpose to educate a person consciously understanding the importance of waste sorting. Scientific works of Lithuanian and foreign authors’ were analyzed. The comparison and summary methods were used in order to submit the common trends and providences. In the second section on the basis of International, European Union and Lithuanian legislation analysis, legal regulation of environmental education was analyzed, and a legal basis to implement waste sorting initiatives at schools of Lithuania was identified. In the third section using the method of data analysis the waste sorting initiatives implemented by Lithuanian schools were identified... [to full text]

Environmental sustainability is achieving more attention in the Management field of knowledge. Recent discussions affirm that a better environmental management can be linked with a better competitive advantage. Thus, many scholars in the field of management have been devoted to the subject and in the mid-1990s two new lines of research have emerged: Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) showing that environmental management needs to be effective in terms of HRM practices (training, performance appraisal, reward systems, recruitment and selection); and Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) showing that green practices should go beyond the \"walls of the organization\", as green purchasing, eco-design, reverse logistics and cooperation with customers. Despite the relevance of these topics, so far, little research have empirically verified if GHRM is related to GSCM, especially considering Brazilian context. The objective of this research is to verify if there is a positive relationship between environmental training as part of GHRM and green purchasing and cooperation with customers as part of GSCM. To this end, we carried out a literature review on the topics mentioned and, based on this; we constructed a questionnaire used during the empirical phase of the research. An e-survey with selfadministered 95 companies possessing ISO 14001 located in Brazil. The results demonstrated that, in fact, environmental training positively influences green purchasing practices and cooperation with customers, especially the first. Furthermore, it was found that the size of the companies is not a so significant variable when controlling GSCM practices. To the date, it is believed that this is the first study that presents a survey testing the relationship between environmental training and external GSCM practices for companies with ISO 14001 in Brazil.
