Reduced Inputs Turfgrass Through White Clover InclusionSparks, Bret Andrew 01 January 2014 (has links)
Most managed turfgrass species require frequent inputs to maintain an acceptable level of quality. Among these inputs, nitrogen (N) fertilization is usually the most limiting in terms of growth and development. However, N fertilization is also linked to non-point source (NPS) pollution. White clover (WC) is known for its ability to provide N when mixed into stands of turfgrass, and does not pose a threat for NPS pollution. Two field studies were designed to investigate the effects of WC inclusion in stands of cool-season turfgrasses. In the first field study, three cultivation techniques were examined for establishment of WC into preexisting turfgrass stands at three different seasonal timings. Scalping during the summer was seen as providing the highest WC populations, although scalping treatments also caused the most initial damage to the turfgrass. In the second field study, mixed stands of turfgrass and WC were examined for response to several weeks of traffic simulations, with WC withstanding the traffic events. Additionally, a greenhouse study was implemented to examine the effects of several commercial broadleaf herbicides on two WC varieties. Only 2,4-D was shown to be safe for application to both WC varieties, although Microclover did show tolerance to quinclorac applications.

Hur nya företag skapar konkurrensfördelar på marknaden för fordonsbesiktningHansson, Pontus, Backmark, Jonas January 2014 (has links)
The Swedish market for vehicle inspection is re-regulated since June 2010. More than four years after the re-regulation there are eight companies in the market. Two of these companies are a result of the former monopolist's owners divided the business among themselves. The remaining six companies have entered the market through acquisitions or by building up their business from scratch, these are known as new entrants in the study. The competition has developed slowly and the former monopolist still has the highest market share. Industry conditions are to say the least special because the companies and technicians have to have individual licenses in the form of accreditation and certification, which causes high establishment barriers. The study has the aim of contributing to the knowledge of new entrants on the re-regulated vehicle inspection market. In particular, the new entrant’s establishment and their strategic choices are studied to find out how they act to market conditions in order to create competitive advantages. The study is based on four questions: Main Question: How do new entrants create competitive advantages in the vehicle inspection market? Sub query 1: How’s the new entrants view on the competitive situation? Sub query 2: How do the new entrants establish their station-/s? Sub query 3: What strategies do the new entrants use to strengthen its position against competitors? The essay is based on an empirical survey and is designed as a case study with four units of analysis that represent four new inspection companies in the market for vehicle inspection. Data were collected through interviews with people in key positions of the four companies, as well with a person of the authority whose task is to monitor market developments, namely the Transport Agency. Furthermore, also documents issued by the authorities and new entrants were reviewed. The conclusions that the study has come up with is that the new entrants create competitive advantages through a favorable placement of stations, a bit outside the city center. The strict regulation doesn’t allow the new entrants to create competitive advantages through new or modified inspection services. Based on these regulations the new entrants are trying to attract customers through enhanced service and additional services to the inspection. They try to create a total offering to the customer where the obligatory inspection service is included.

Comrades and Citizens: Great War Veterans in Toronto, 1915-1919Smith, Nathan 20 June 2014 (has links)
This is a history of returned soldiers of the Great War in Toronto covering the period from when they began returning home in 1915 through to the end of demobilization in late 1919. Based largely in newspaper research, the focus is the discourse of returned men, as they were frequently called, and the role they played in Toronto and in Canada more broadly. The dissertation examines veterans' attitudes, the opinions they expressed, the goals they collectively pursued, the actions they took and their significance as actors and symbols in the public sphere. The study shows that during and immediately after the war returned soldiers played a prominent role in public debate over conscription and wartime politics, the status of non-British immigrants in Canada, the Red Scare and re-establishment policy. In exploring these topics the study elaborates on the identities veterans collectively adopted and constructed for themselves as comrades and citizens.
Class, definitions of masculinity, British-Canadian ethno-nationality and experience as soldiers all affected formulations of veteran citizenship and comradeship. Returned soldiers' representations of their citizenship resonated powerfully in Canadian society. The experiences and symbolism of returned soldiers generated interest in civilian society that granted them easy access to the public sphere and encouraged pro-war politicians to use returnees to promote the war effort. Veterans took advantage of their access to the press and public stages to broadcast their own views and claim that their service gave them special rights to intervene in public affairs.
Comradeship was vitally important to returned soldiers and set them apart from civilians, but it was neither a simple nor stable category. Veterans' debates and the history of veterans' associations testify to the fact that collective service in the war did not erase civilian identities and create a stable platform for united collective activism after the war. Furthermore, comradeship sometimes existed uneasily with the rights and responsibilities of citizenship. Parliamentary methods were fundamental to veterans' activism, but their politics were also performative, often pursued and proclaimed at street level, and a minority of veterans threatened and engaged in violence they claimed was justified.

Etableringsprocessen på en tillväxtmarknad : En fallstudie om Scanias etableringsprocess på den indiska marknaden.Kanwal, Bushra, Flores Frias, Sandino January 2013 (has links)
Objective: The objective of this thesis is to investigate how Scania has attained success to establish on the Indian market and to inquire into the establishment process of Scania and their entrance in the Indian market. The thesis describes different factors such as the product, mode of entry, time of entry and choice of market that play a role when a company establishes and invest in a foreign market. Method: This thesis is limited to the process of establishing Scania on the Indian truck market. A qualitative approach has being utilized in this study, consisting of interviews with Staffan Sjöström, development manager at the R&D department, Koen Knoops, vice president at Financial Services and Henrik Fagrenius, former managing director for Scania in India. Data collection from various journals and articles have been conducted for the presentation of the number of sold newly registered trucks in comparison to the number of sold newly registered trucks in India by Volvo, Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland during 2010, 2011, 2012 and the first three quarters of 2013. Theory: With a starting-point in empirism, we have used a theoretical frame of reference to describe Scania´s establishment process. Scania makes use of an internationalization strategy, namely Market Selection, Time of Entry and Entry mode and the network model, which describes the process of establishing on a foreign market as a business association with various players on the market. Scania has made the choice to establish on the Indian growth market, which is still economically unexploited in many aspects since it is a young and growing market and has positive opportunities for profitability. Conclusions: The concept that Scania follows as it establishes on a growth market, be it an industrialized country or a newly industrialized country, is that supreme quality always should be the primary choice. Customers are interested in lower overall costs and not in low prices. Scania believes that entrepreneurs worldwide have the same need for high quality and that psychological distance, meaning cultural differences should not be an obstacle on the path of establishment. A cheap work force, improving infrastructure and political reforms have carved the path for Scania’s establishment on the Indian growth market. According to Fagrenius Scania has wasted no time on excessive observation although they have taken precautions in forming partnerships and creating a broad network before entering the Indian market.

Darbo tikslas – įvertinti kineziterapeuto paslaugų poreikį Kauno miesto ikimokyklinio ugdymo įstaigose.
Tyrimo metodika. Siekiant įvertinti kineziterapeuto paslaugų poreikį Kauno miesto ikimokyklinio ugdymo įstaigose buvo atlikta 565 kasmetinės profilaktinės ikimokyklinukų sveikatos patikros pažymų analizė, 321 ikimokyklinuko tėvo bei 16 Kauno miesto ikimokyklinio ugdymo įstaigų vadovų anoniminė anketinė apklausa bei dviejų kūno kultūros pedagogų, dviejų masažuotojų ir kineziterapeuto, dirbančio ikimokyklinio ugdymo įstaigoje, darbo stebėsena. Statistinei duomenų analizei naudota SPSS programa. Proporcijų lyginimui taikytas Chi kvadrato (χ2) kriterijus, ryšys tarp požymių laikytas statistiškai reikšmingu, kai p<0,05. Skirtumo tarp atvejų dažnio dviejose tiriamųjų grupėse reikšmingumas vertintas taikant dvipusį z kriterijų.
Rezultatai. Kaulų – raumenų sistemos sutrikimai – tai dažniausia ikimokyklinukų sveikatos problema. Kas šeštam vaikui nustatytos kojų deformacijos, kas devintam – plokščiapėdystė, dar kas devintam – šleivapėdystė, kas tryliktam ikimokyklinukui – netaisyklinga laikysena. Visos apklaustos ikimokyklinio ugdymo įstaigų vadovės ir dauguma tėvų (92 proc.) pageidautų, kad būtų teikiamos kineziterapeuto paslaugos ikimokyklinio ugdymo įstaigose. Visų vadovių ir 86,6 proc. tėvų nuomone, tai padėtų laiku nustatyti ir koreguoti kaulų – raumenų sistemos sutrikimus bei daugumos (atitinkamai, 81,3 proc. ir 84,1 proc.) nuomone sumažintų šių sutrikimų pasireiškimo dažnį...
