Previous issue date: 2004-04-30 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / The increase of the unemployment has increasingly contributed to the growth of the recyclable material
collectors occupation in the streets of the big and medium Brazilian urban areas. In general, these people
live on the edge of the social rights, excluded from the job market, with low rates of schooling and absence
of all kind of technical capacitation, besides, many times, they have compromised health conditions. That
being the case, the activity of collecting recyclable garbage represents one way of social insertion. Then the
garbage and the collection constitute, in the middle of their lives, in their relationships and emotions,
suffering and happiness.
The present work has as objective to investigate how the social inclusion-exclusion process is particularized
in these collectors everyday life, since the beginning of their exclusion history, in the school and familiar
ambit, until the current occupation; analyzes intet personal relations links and breakups, distress, feelings,
affections, and also the relation health-disease as one of the revealing dimensions of suffering. The
information obtained was registered in field diary and record, being the research made through participant
observation and semi-structured interviews. In the participant observation, the researcher followed the
collectors in their everyday job activities and in their category meetings.
The data analysis reveals that the collectors history of life is all marked by the social exclusion, and the
current occupation reallyis, itself, another suffering among others already felt in previous times. The most
frequent emotions are shame and humiliation, which specially come from the discrimination and prejudice.
On the other hand, being a collector can also be a source of joy. On one side, for an ethical reason, that is
to the possibility of the person to regain his own dignity to insert himself and to be socially recognized as
honest worker, distinct from beggars and thieves. On the other side, for having been given the opportunity
of organizing and mobilizing themselves together in the battle for better conditions of work and life,
translated in the insistence of the group to make nationally official this job as a profession or, even, in changes of the proper routine of collecting recyclable material, which can be less isolated, more organized, cleaner and profitable. Moreover, they reveal feeling happiness when this activity allows them to obtain items until then inaccessible,as, for example, electrical appliances found in the garbage sometimes. About
the health issue, these collectors do not believe that the collecting work is a risk indeed. For them, health, risk is, above all, not having food on the table, not having a place to live, neither having clothes to dress. They affirm that physical diseases caused by the work in the garbage can be treated; for the hunger, there is
not cure. We can conclude that being a collector, mainly if he is member of an organized group, is a possibility of life
potentialization for those who saw themselves excluded from the job market and without options, damaged
As emoções

Previous issue date: 2007-06-15 / This work was developed in the extent of the Post Graduation Program in Social Service of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. It talks about the process of inclusion of the disabled people in the Job market in Mossor?-RN, bringing for the academic debate relevant thematic for the Brazilian society, for the profession of Social Service and similar areas and
for the people with deficiency. It has the objective to apprehend the determiners that make possible the process of the disabled people's inclusion in the Job market in Mossor?, having as parameter the National Politics for the Integration of People Bearers of Deficiency. The
critical theoretical perspective is backed in Marx's ideas for the understanding concerning the work, as well as in Pochamann, concerning the job market, regarding the exclusion/inclusion category is based in Martins, Yasbek and Sposati and on deficiency in the National Politics
for the Integration of the Disabled People. The research is of qualitative nature and it took as subjects 26 (twenty-six) people, being 09 (nine) people with deficiency, inserted in the formal job and regulated market, and 17 (seventeen) managers of private companies and public
institutions of the city of Mossor?-RN. For the collection of data we used techniques of nonsystemic observation, semi-structured interview and documental analysis. The results of the research mark that any modality of the human workforce used in the current context, they are
functional to the capitalism and they move forward towards exploration, alienation and subordination of the work to the capital; the National Politics for the Integration of the People with Deficiency expresses and reproduces the contradictory dynamics of the class society, it
reflects the neo liberal shades through the selectivity and of the articulation among the federated beings and organizations of the civil society for its operational system; there is a misproportion between the percentages of the quotas and the amount of people with deficiency inserted in the job market, just corresponding to a tiny numeric magnitude; the developed activities are of low social status and it is expressive the amount of workers that receives between one and two minimum wages. These data drive us to infer that the mentioned politics make possible, partly, the inclusion of the disabled people in the job market, though, such inclusion is executed in the selective or focused dimensions, marginal, precarious and unstable / Este trabalho foi desenvolvido no ?mbito do Programa de P?s-Gradua??o em Servi?o Social da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte.
de observa??o assistem?tica, entrevista semi-estruturada e an?lise documental.

Previous issue date: 2005-07-22 / Coordena??o de Aperfei?oamento de Pessoal de N?vel Superior / This research presents the labors developed by the Social Service unto socially excluded HIV/Aids positives at public hospitals in Rio Grande do Norte (RN). It purposes to identify and to analyze the demands brought by the holder onto the Social Service professional as well as the challenges the latter face to minister to the former. It privileges, from the methodological viewpoint, the qualitative and quantitative analysis with the application of questionnaires, direct observation, semi-structured interviews and bibliographic references. Data were collected from 12 (twelve) social assistants who work at Giselda Trigueiro Hospital in Natal (7) and Rafael Fernandes Hospital in Mossor? (5). The central hypothesis that guided this study is that the social inclusion/exclusion process experienced by the HIV/Aids positive on society implies a demand for the Social Service that is inserted in the public health context (specially in HIV-referred public hospitals), whose agents, however, when attempting to answer those demands, meet obstacles due to both the precariousness of public health services and the social complexity that concerns the HIV/Aids epidemic. Results point out that, de facto, the HIV/Aids epidemic, because of the social exclusion/inclusion process to which the holder is subject results a demand for the social agents at hospitals. Demands rise principally from the patient s life condition, considering the increasing pauperization in the epidemic context. As to what it is concerned, social assistants, responding to the needs, come across concrete twofold challenges: the illness in itself, for all social, negative aspects that make part of quotidian life of holders; and the precarious state of the public health service in RN State, since that working conditions are unsatisfactory / A pesquisa apresenta o trabalho desenvolvido pelo Servi?o Social com os portadores de HIV/AIDS exclu?dos socialmente, nos hospitais p?blicos do Estado do Rio Grande do Norte (RN).

Previous issue date: 2014-10-29 / Discrimination, in its best form, is a hard concept to fathom as an employee or ordinary citizen. In the workplace, there are times when discrimination is necessary due to extenuating circumstances that revolve around the form or act of discrimination. It could be conveyed to save a life or avoid future conflict. However, it must be clearly stated as a written law that the act is lawful. When unlawful discrimination occurs, it stages an entirely different tone, as it is mainly conducted out of malice, hatred, greed, control, or ignorance. Over the last few decades, discrimination has existed in the workplace, although Federal laws mandate that it does not occur. It does not exist in just one geographical area or is country specific, but covers a wide spectrum, linking countries together from their points of view to creating rifts amongst those who are affected and those who are not, not only from a business perspective, but social humanistic relationships as well. This thesis will use quantitative and qualitative data to support discrimination of sexual harassment, race or color, and gender issues, as well as personal experiences, and how it has and will continue to impact businesses if the acts do not cease, permanently. Leadership, from the Presidents and Heads of Countries, Chief Executive Officers (CEOs), managers, lowest-ranking supervisor, and employees should make it their personal goal to ensure these issues do not continue or arise in their perspective areas of responsibilities. When employees understand that they are valued, will be taken seriously when reporting acts of discrimination, and that some form of action will be taken, performance and productivity will escalate, and morale will increase in the workplace, resulting in higher productivity and subsequently higher profit margins for the company.

Closure games : the politics of clubs in international societyNaylor, Tristen A. January 2014 (has links)
This thesis develops a theory of international social closure to examine (i) the politics of membership in status groups – or, clubs – in international society and (ii) the persistence of clubs in international society. This thesis offers new concepts to improve the English School’s understanding of international society, its expansion, and its reproduction. In so doing it also addresses limitations and gaps in the IR status literature and the global governance and diplomacy literatures concerned with clubs and networks. This thesis analyses strategies of exclusion, entry, and incorporation used by actors to deny, attempt, or grant inclusion into clubs as well as the institutional contexts underpinning those clubs. Specifically, this research undertakes a study of instances of exclusion, entry, and incorporation in the context of three clubs: the Family of Civilised Nations, the Great Powers club, and G-summitry. In the first two cases, this research relies primarily on secondary sources while in the case of G-summitry it presents original empirical research gathered through archival research, interviews, and ethnographic participant observation. This thesis presents four main conclusions about the operation of closure: (i) the logics of different closure games are defined by overarching normative institutions of international society; (ii) despite a collectivist closure rule, closure in international society is predominantly individualistic; (iii) actors seeking entry tend to employ deferential entry strategies that reproduce a stratified status quo order; and (iv) incorporation promotes stratification along both functional and cultural lines. This thesis also draws three specific conclusions that run counter to much current scholarship: (i) contemporary international society is neither more open nor less hierarchical than nineteenth century international society; (ii) hierarchy is reproduced to a large degree by entry and incorporation strategies rather than exclusion strategies; and (iii) closure does not run along a ‘west versus the rest’ fault line.
