This study is the discussion female poets of Ming adherents during the end of the Ming and beginning of the Qing dynasty . Facing being destitute and homeless because of war, they reveal individual will, the sentiment and the choice in the poetic composition . This study collects poets from the Ming and Qing Dynasties poetry anthology and selects achiever of female poets to discuss about their biography , their poetic composition and their spirit of Ming adherents . The research of literature of Ming adherents writing always focuses in the male poets , female poets actually little to obtain scholar's favor . Therefore this study attempts to seeks female poets¡¦ position and value in the literature of Ming adherents writing .

Poetry portfolio : Things I’ll never say and Mini-dissertation : The fragmented self : female identity in personal poetry, with particular reference to selected poems by Anne Sexton, Antjie Krog and Finuala DowlingDu Plessis, Jeanne Catherine 13 December 2011 (has links)
This mini-dissertation examines selected poems by three female poets who deal with what I have termed ‘the personal’ in relation to specifically female concerns in their poetry, namely Anne Sexton, Antjie Krog and Finuala Dowling. There has been a considerable rise in personal and autobiographical writing in the last few decades, and this trend shows no sign of decreasing. This kind of writing has provoked much heated debate, both regarding its content and its style(s). Many critics and poets, such as Robert Lowell or James Dickey, disapprove of the frankness with which female poets discuss subjects which are specific to women, and consider the poems to be too graphic or crude. Personal poems which are not graphic are also criticised as being boring, irrelevant or lacking in artistic craft. Those in favour of poetry of the personal, such as Collette Inez and Alicia Ostriker, believe that contemporary poets’ freedom to examine any topic they like is a positive development. Instead of considering these poems to be irrelevant to readers, they believe that personal poetry can be a means for both writers and readers to explore identity and to navigate various female roles. This mini-dissertation argues in defence of personal poetry, and addresses the common criticisms of this type of writing briefly mentioned above. It highlights women’s issues and questions of female identity throughout. The different ways in which female writers approach personal poetry are also examined, and the mini-dissertation compares the controversial aspects of Sexton’s writing with Krog’s candour and Dowling’s understated humour. Through close textual analysis, the mini-dissertation highlights both similarities and differences in the work of these poets, in support of the value of such poetry for both readers and writers. The mini-dissertation is accompanied by a portfolio of my own creative work. Since earliest times death has been an important and always actual theme in the arts.
The point of departure of this thesis is to examine the portrayal of the ”discourse of and about death” in the poems of three women poets, namely Elisabeth Eybers, Olga Kirsch and Eveleen Castelyn. Various aspects of death thematics are considered and, from a formal perspective, the presence and absence of traditional forms concerning death, such as the ”obituary poem”, the ”elegy”, the ”dirge” and the ”threnody” are investigated. The research plan and the development of the study are dealt with in chapter one. The problem formulation and theoretical approaches for this study are given special attention. In chapter two the death theme in literature throughout the centuries, and specifically in poetry, is relevant. Death thematics occurring in English, Dutch, Afrikaans, Chinese, American, Russian, German, French and Spanish literatures are examined. Philosophical and Christian viewpoints concerning death are also investigated. The portrayal of death in the poetry of Elisabeth Eybers is the topic in chapter three. Her oeuvre is devided into four periods. The collections from Belydenis in die skemering up to Rymdwang are only summarily referred to, since this section has already been dealt with in my MA dissertation (Schutte, 1988). The following six volumes are discussed in detail concerning her religious views and the portrayal of death by way of various subthemes and stances. Chapter four is dedicated to the poetry of Olga Kirsch and in chapter five to that of Eveleen Castelyn. In chapter six a comparison is drawn between the three poets regarding their shared death thematics, similarities and differences in their mode of betrayal and their views on the afterlife. During her oeuvre Eybers adopts an agnostic view, Kirsch embraces the Jewish faith and Castelyn holds a Christian point of view throughout her oeuvre. At the end of the study a summary and findings are given and the conclusion, that the three poets increasingly become preoccupied with death, is reached. / Afrikaans & Theory of Literature / (D. Earth Ascending: A Composition in Three Movements for Female Voice, Electroacoustic Music, and VideoLillios, Elainie 08 1900 (has links)
Earth Ascending is a composition in three movements scored for female voice, electroacoustic music, and video. Composed in the Year 2000, Earth Ascending lasts approximately sixteen minutes and was created specifically for live performance in which all three elements combine to create a sonic and visual environment. As such, no single element has greater importance than any other, with each of the three performing forces assuming a foreground role at various times throughout the work. Earth Ascending is defined by a single poem written by contemporary female British poets Jeni Counzyn, Jehanne Mehta, and Cynthia Fuller. The movements are named according to the title of each poem: Earth-Body, Light-Body; Wringcliff Beach; and Pool. The movements are separated in performance by five seconds of silence and black on the video screen. The paper accompanying the score of Earth Ascending is divided into five chapters, each discussing in detail an element central to the composition itself. The Introduction presents background information, general ideas, and approaches undertaken when creating the work. Chapters 1 through 3 investigate in detail the content of the electroacoustic music, voice, and video. Chapter 4 discusses scoring techniques, revealing approaches and methods undertaken to solve issues relating to notation and ways of accurately representing sound, pitch, and rhythm within the context of a mixed media work. Chapter 5 presents information relevant to the live performance of the piece.

Re-Calling the Past: Poetry as Preservation of Black Female HistoriesMiller-Haughton, Rachel 01 January 2017 (has links)
This paper discusses the poetry of Audre Lorde and Natasha Trethewey, and the ways in which they bring to attention the often-silenced histories of African American females. Through close readings of Lorde’s poems “Call” and “Coal,” and Trethewey’s “Three Photographs,” these histories are brought to the present with the framework of the words “call” and “re-call.” The paper explores the ways in which Lorde creates a new mythology for understanding her identity as “black, lesbian, mother, warrior, poet” in her innovative, intersectional feminist poetry. This is used as the framework for understanding modern poets like Trethewey, whose identity as a biracial black woman from the American South colors her lyric, more formal work. Lorde uses the vocal, oral tradition of calling as Trethewey relies on visual, gaze-focused recall. Recall is memory and re-call means bringing the hidden past into the future. The paper concludes by saying that all black female writers may participate in their own ways of calling out the truth and remembering what should be forgotten.

As a teacher of American literature in high school, I have become conscious of the importance of teaching students of that age level the lore and poetry of their native state. Poems of nature or local color in their own country will hold their interest when material from more distant points seems dull and uninteresting. Through my teaching I have become interested in the poetry of the Southwest and have enjoyed reading the poetry and knowing the poets through personal interview or correspondence.

Ce mémoire vise à placer le travail de la poète colombienne Olga Elena Mattei au sein de la poésie colombienne de son temps (1962-2005).
Dans le premier chapitre, certains concepts théoriques sont définis et le terme «canon», axé sur la poésie, est synthétisé.
Dans le deuxième chapitre, le paysage de la poésie colombienne de la seconde moitié du XXe siècle est défini. La stylistique des poètes les plus importants et jugés comme étant canoniques, est présentée.
Dans le dernier chapitre, les particularités de la poésie de Mattei sont analysées.
Il est conclu qu'Olga Elena Mattei fait partie du canon de la poésie colombienne, mais que son travail a contesté le canon dominant de celle-ci, au fil des décennies, et qu'il a été en avance sur les tendances qui émergeraient plus tard. À titre d'exemple, il est montré comment, dans les années soixante du XXe siècle, quand, en Colombie, la rime et le mètre étaient toujours hégémoniques dans la poésie, Olga Elena Mattei a osé écrire et publier en vers libres. Puis, dans les années soixante-dix, lorsque le vers libre a été accepté et il régnait à la poésie colombienne, Mattei fut la première femme à écrire anti-poésie en espagnol. In the first chapter, some theoretical concepts are defined and the term "canon", focused on poetry, is explained.
In the second chapter, the landscape of the Colombian poetry of the second half of the twentieth century is set. The style of the most important poets, who are considered as canonical, is presented.
In the last chapter, the peculiarities of Mattei's poetry are analyzed.
It is concluded that Olga Elena Mattei is part of the canon of the Colombian poetry, but her work has challenged the dominant trends over the decades. For example, it is shown how, in the sixties of the twentieth century, when, in Colombia, rhyme and metrics were still preponderant in poetry, Olga Elena Mattei dared to write and publish in free verse. In the seventies, when free verse was accepted and it reigned in the Colombian poetry, Mattei was the first woman to write anti-poetry in Spanish. In the eighties, while anti-poetry was the main trend in Colombian poetry, Mattei devoted herself to write poetry about science, never wrote in Colombia before. And in the nineties, when free verse is dominant in Colombia, Mattei returns to rhyme. / Esta tesina pretende ubicar la obra de la poeta colombiana Olga Elena Mattei en el marco de la poesía dominante de su tiempo (1962-2005), en Colombia.
En un primer capítulo, se definen algunos conceptos teóricos y se sintetiza el término “canon”, enfocado en la poesía.
En el segundo capítulo, se define el campo poético colombiano de la segunda mitad del siglo XX. Se discute sobre la estilística de los poetas más relevantes, aquellos que han sido determinados como canónicos.
En el capítulo final, se analiza la poesía de esta autora, sus particularidades, confrontándola con el canon antes explicado.
Se concluye que Olga Elena Mattei hace parte del canon de la poesía colombiana, pero que su obra, a lo largo de los decenios, ha rebatido el canon preponderante en Colombia y se ha adelantado a las tendencias que habrían de surgir posteriormente.
Como ejemplo, se muestra cómo, en los años sesenta del siglo XX, cuando, en Colombia, todavía la rima y la métrica eran hegemónicas en la poesía, Olga Elena Mattei se atrevió a escribir y publicar en verso libre. Luego, en los setenta, cuando ya el verso libre era aceptado e imperaba en la poesía colombiana, Mattei fue la primera mujer en escribir antipoesía en español. En los ochenta, cuando la antipoesía ya era tendencia distinguida en Colombia, Mattei se encaminó hacia la poesía de temática científica, nunca antes realizada en Colombia, y en los noventa, cuando, predomina el verso libre, Mattei regresa a la poesía con rima y ritmo.
