Drawing on my own process of entry into local queer, lesbian and feminist public cultures, I argue that a powerful relationship between feminist and lesbian existence can be felt and that this sensibility bears influence on the way queer erotic and politicized identities emerge in relation to one another. These affective links remain frequently unacknowledged and/or are actively repudiated due to popular accounts of feminist genealogy whereby second wave lesbian-feminist positions are rendered fundamentally incompatible with contemporary queer/third wave feminist ones. I challenge this narrative by building on select early articulations of radical lesbian feminism to show that when affirmed consciously, the sense that lesbianism and feminism are interconnected constitutes a “woman-identified experience” and an opportunity to bear witness to the unrealized possibilities of second-wave radical feminism in the present. I conclude that politicized “lesbian” and/or “woman” identification remain indispensable strategic sites from which to observe and confront heteropatriarchy.

Studien gör avstamp i sociologisk och utbildningsvetenskaplig forskning kring skolans och kunskapens förändrade form och funktion i vår senmoderna samtid. Med bakgrund av denna hävdar jag att den Svenska skolan avseende dess arbete med klassiskt värdepedagogiska frågor som till exempel jämställdhet mellan kvinnor och män idag står inför en ny typ av utmaning och eventuell ämnesdidaktisk problematik. Syftet med studien var mer precist att undersöka och analysera hur undervisande gymnasielärare i Samhällskunskap rent ämnesdidaktiskt hanterar och förhåller sig till implementeringen av jämställdhetsperspektivet i sin undervisning. Valet av metod för insamling av empiriskt material föll på en kvalitativ, semistrukturerad intervjustudie. Totalt intervjuades tre lärare, verksamma på olika skolor i olika kommuner. Respondenternas svar analyserades senare med utgångspunkt i feministisk, socialkonstruktivistisk, genusteoretisk och strukturalistisk teoribildning. Utifrån denna analys gjordes ett försök att tematisera de olika attityder och uppfattningar kring frågan som framkommit under intervjuerna. Tydligast framträdde tre olika perspektiv, som var och en främst representerades av en enskild lärare, även om det fanns tendenser till överlappning. Vidare framkom ett intressant stickspår om de attityder till kunskap generellt, och värdepedagogiska frågor i synnerhet, som en av pedagogerna upplever sig stöta på bland sina elever. Detta stickspår blev på sätt och vis det mest talande exemplet på den problematik jag i studiens inledning tar avstamp i: Den funktion kunskap fyller för den individualiserade och instrumentellt tänkande individen i det senmoderna liberaldemokratiska samhället. Avslutningsvis diskuteras studiens resultat, metodologiska styrkor och svagheter samt förslag på vidare forskning inom ämnet.

Theories of beauty normally engage with beauty in the abstract, or with reactions to beauty - beauty’s effect on others. This thesis considers how coquettish female beauty has been embodied in Victorian literature by the Brontës, Dickens, George Eliot, Christina Rossetti, and to a lesser extent women’s periodical literature. It argues that the figure of the coquette addresses antithetical discourses on the Victorian woman and assimilates them in such a way as to express a subversive beauty discourse, in which beauty consolidates differing female experiences and formulates the search for identity as a collective female effort. The coquette is linked with controversial women’s issues such as marriage failure, domestic abuse and female eroticism; the ambivalence of her relationship with the text’s heroine shows the scope and limits of female autonomy. The dialectic between rejection and acceptance in which the coquette participates in specific narrative strategies shows women engaged with women’s problems, their erotic potential, and their relationship(s) to each other. The thesis also reflects on feminist literary theory, especially current ideas on female writing, broadly defined as a search for female belonging. Recent criticism holds that the Victorian coquette operates either to show that eroticism was part of the Victorian woman’s identity, or as a passive surface upon which certain aspects of the protagonist are illuminated. This thesis argues that this is only part of the story; additionally, the issue of eroticism is installed within a framework of women’s social, political, and legal concerns, and the coquette can be read as an active site in which aspects of both the coquette and the protagonist are combined to form an innovative way of seeing the Victorian woman.

Systerskap är ett begrepp som är starkt sammankopplat med den feministiska rörelsen och dess framväxt. Tidigare forskning visar att systerskap är ett komplext begrepp med många olika innebörder. Det har bland annat ansetts fungera som en förenande kraft och ett verktyg för att erövra framtiden samtidigt som det också likställts med ett ideal om solidaritet. Denna uppsats studerar hur man på två olika feministiska bloggar beskriver och uttrycker systerskap i dagens samhälle. Med den kvalitativa innehållsanalysen som metodologisk utgångspunkt så analyserades fyrtionio blogginlägg för att urskilja olika uttryck och beskrivningar av systerskap. Resultaten presenteras via temat: Det paradoxala systerskapet samt dess tre ingående kategorier: uppdelningeni ett vioch dem; uttryck för solidaritet och systerskapandesamt bloggandet ochnätet som politisk arena med förenade krafter. Resultaten återkopplas främst till det teoretiska begreppet "Us” within the ”Other”, där särskilt uppdelningen i så kallade in-grupper och ut-grupper diskuteras, samt tilltidigare forskning kring begreppen systerskap och virtuell feminism. Studien visar att feministiskt bloggande är en viktig del för den feministiska framtiden och att systerskap behövs än idag för en framgångsrik kamp mot patriarkala strukturer.

This thesis will demonstrate that women and women's groups in the Muslim world could be a strong ally in reducing the influence and spread of Islamist ideologies. Women and women's organizations have proven that they are effective in resisting the impact of Islamism and have been able to role back some of its repressive policies as evidenced by the case studies of Iran, Algeria, and Afghanistan. Women and women's organizations or feminist groups are currently active in the Muslim world already and are a growing voice in the region. Therefore, it is of vital interest to the United States Government to engage these groups and women's interests as a means of challenging the spread of Islamist ideology and enlisting them in the war of ideas. / US Army (USA) author.
