It departs from the hypothesis raised by Oswald Ducrot that Saussure, by developing the notion of linguistic value, applies in the study of language what Plato stated about ideas. Ducrot – an expert in classical philosophy – draws in the linguistic value theory to develop the branch in linguistic studies known as Argumentative Semantics. According to Ducrot, it is possible to find the philosophical origin of Saussure's theory of value in Plato's theory of alterity. The article intends to draw on a detailed study on the dialogue between Sophist and CGL to circumscribe concepts belonging to different fields of study: philosophy and linguistics. Thus, it aims an epistemological perspective. By the means of the aforementioned works, Ducrot set a nexus between the idea of alterity and the notion of value by finding in both the idea of “opposition” as constitutive of the issues under analysis. Through the investigation and the deepening of the understanding on the notion of value, it tries to reveal the philosophical influences under the concept developed by the Genebrian linguist. Both Plato and Saussure have set discourses which echo in posterity. These discourses are texts dialoguing with the theories they help to build. In this regard, it looks to counterpoint their interdiscursivity.

Rytell, Catherine January 1964 (has links)
Arts, Faculty of / Central Eastern Northern European Studies, Department of / Graduate

Determining the Authenticity of the Concerto for Two Horns, Woo 19, Attributed to Ferdinand Ries

Laursen, Amy D. 12 1900 (has links)
Ferdinand Ries is credited as the composer of the Concerto for Two Horns, WoO. 19 preserved in the Berlin State Library. Dated 1811, ostensibly Ries wrote it in the same year as his Horn Sonata, Op. 34, yet the writing for the horns in the Concerto is significantly more demanding. Furthermore, Ries added to the mystery by not claiming the Concerto in his personal catalog of works or mentioning it in any surviving correspondence. The purpose of this dissertation is to study the authorship of the Concerto for Two Horns and offer possible explanations for the variance in horn writing. Biographical information of Ries is given followed by a stylistic analysis of Ries’s known works. A stylistic analysis of the Concerto for Two Horns, WoO. 19 is offered, including a handwriting comparison between the Concerto for Two Horns and Ries’s Horn Sonata. Finally, possible explanations are proposed that rationalize the variance in horn writing between the Concerto for Two Horns, WoO. 19 and Ries’s other compositions that include the horn.

Resignation of Leopold Ferdinand of Tuscany from the Archduke's Position and His Life as an Ordinary Citizen.

Žáková, Michaela January 2013 (has links)
The thesis "The Wölfling Case. Resignation of Leopold Ferdinand of Tuscany from the Archduke's Position and His Life as an Ordinary Citizen" discusses the events associated with the departure of Archduke Leopold Ferdinand (1868-1935) from the Habsburg-Lorraine House. The thesis deals with the Imperial Austrian Family Statute, individual cases of resignation to the rank of Archduke, as well as the issue of violation of family norms in the Habsburg-Lorraine family. The focus is on events surrounding the escape of Archduke Leopold Ferdinand from the court and his subsequent resignation from the Archduke rank. Attention is paid to the cause of this, as well as the dramatic negotiations surrounding his final resignation from the imperial court and family. The thesis also charts the career of the former Archduke (since 1903 Leopold Wölfling) in the position of an ordinary citizen.

[en] METAPHORS FOR LANGUAGE IN SAUSSURE`S COURSE / [pt] METÁFORAS PARA LINGUAGEM NO CURSO DE SAUSSURE

ELISANGELA NOGUEIRA TEIXEIRA 03 December 2003 (has links)
[en] This study analyses metaphors for language in Saussures Course in General Linguistics. The analysis is based on the Cognitive Theory of Metaphor, and on Roy Harriss classical reading of the Course. The presence of a tension between two divergent views on language and meaning is demonstrated, where a traditional representationalist perspective is shown to coexist with an opposing view, similar to the one found in L. Wittgensteins Philosophical Investigations.
