Moonlight in Miami [electronic resource] : a field study of human-robot interaction in the context of an urban search and rescue disaster response training exercise / by Jennifer L. Burke.

Burke, Jennifer L. January 2004 (has links)
Title from PDF of title page. / Document formatted into pages; contains 68 pages. / Thesis (M.A.)--University of South Florida, 2004. / Includes bibliographical references. / Text (Electronic thesis) in PDF format. / ABSTRACT: This study explores human-robot interaction during a 16-hour high-fidelity Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) disaster response drill with teleoperated robots. Situation awareness and team interaction were examined using communication analysis. Operators (n=5) sought assistance from team members to compensate for difficulties building or maintaining situation awareness. Operator-team member communication focused on relating what was seen through the robot's eye view with prior knowledge and planning search strategies. Results suggest operators need a new cognitive mental model to filter and comprehend data provided by the robot, and that robot-assisted search is a team task rather than an individual one. / ABSTRACT: USAR technical search teams need a new shared mental model of robot-assisted search in order to coordinate activities effectively. / System requirements: World Wide Web browser and PDF reader. / Mode of access: World Wide Web.

Ensino e aprendizagem de estatística no contexto do Ensino Médio Politécnico pelo desenvolvimento de uma pesquisa de campo

Müller, Daniel Ânderson January 2015 (has links)
The aim of this study is to develop topics of Statistics from the accomplishment of a practical activity of collection and real data analysis, emphasizing critical thinking, selforganization, collective and collaborative efforts of students. The participant group consisted of seventeen students of the second year High School (evening classes in a Polytechnic public school) in the countryside of Rio Grande do Sul. The activity was carried out while the students were taking the subject Integrated Seminar. As a group, everyone planned and did field research focusing on themes that had been suggested by the students themselves. This activity stands out because the data collected was based on a random sample of the residents of the town. So that the interviews with the residents could be done, the students needed to work after their school schedule, facing some adverse situations, which shows remarkable engagement of the group. The field survey results were compiled in spreadsheets and analyzed by the students themselves in discussions in the classroom. Later, those considered most relevant results were summarized in graphs and presented to the school community. The qualitative analysis of students' answers to specific questions, based on the Collective Subject Discourse methodology, revealed proper understanding of statistical concepts, and also showed the satisfaction of students to be part of the process. Therefore, the activity has been a success, being a viable alternative to promote the Statistical Learning in Elementary and High School. At the end of the research, an educational product that consists of a basic roadmap for conducting similar work has been presented.

Jazyk české menšiny ve vesnici Repinka na Sibiři / The Language of a Czech Minority in Repinka in Siberia

Hakenová, Barbora January 2015 (has links)
This thesis contributes to the research on Czech dialects in language enclaves abroad. Its objective is to describe the language of the Czech minority in the villages of Repinka, Voskresenka and Novohradka in Russia, Omsk, the territory of Kalachinsk. The research is restricted only to the oldest generations, i.e. people over the age of fifty-five, whose language use is analyzed on these traditional levels of language: phonology, morphology, syntax and marginally also lexicology. The theoretical part of this research deals with the history of Czech immigrants in Tsarist Russia. The study then focuses on the history of Czech immigrants in regions connected with moving to Siberia and on the present philological researches on the Czech community in Omsk region. The following part describes the methods of the data processing. Transcriptions of recorded speeches and prayers in the Czech language set down in Cyrillic alphabet were used as the input data. They were described separately for each language level. Most attention is paid to the elements which help to classify the dialect of Repinka under one of the dialect groups of the Czech language, and furthermore to language elements influenced by foreign languages (especially by Russian). In the conclusion, the author summarizes the obtained results. On...

Etnologie gagauzské vesnice Bqlgarevo. Identita bulharských Gagauzů / Ethnology of Gagauz Village Bălgarevo. The Identity of Bulgarian Gagauzes

Christov, Kiril January 2020 (has links)
The work of Ethnology of the Gagauz village of Bălgarevo. The identity of the Bulgarian Gagauz represents the ethnogenesis and hypotheses about the origin of the Gagauz. The author interprets the ethnic identity of the Bulgarian Gagauz from a village in the northeastern part of Bulgaria. Based on the outputs of field return research, empirical data and through the projection of the actors themselves, it identifies the basic characteristics of Gagauz identity: origin, language, religion and tradition. The author describes the symbols and signs important for the community itself and answers the question of whether it is possible to label the current Bulgarian Gagauze as an ethnic group, how they identified themselves and on the basis of which attributes. The space is given by the ongoing revitalization changes against the background of new economic and socio-cultural processes. The work is supplemented by case studies and research reflection.

Jazyk české menšiny v obci Šumice v rumunském Banátě / The language of Czech minority in Šumice in the Romanian Banat

Frnochová, Adéla January 2012 (has links)
This thesis contributes to a research on Czech dialects in language enclaves abroad. The aim of the paper is to describe the language of the Czech minority in the village of Šumice in Romanian Banat. All traditional levels of language are analyzed: phonological, morphological, syntactical, lexical and word-formation. The research was restricted only to the oldest generation, that means to the people over sixty-five. In the beginning, the author deals with the history of Czech immigrants in Romania and also with their contemporary life. Particular attention is paid to the history of Šumice. In the following part of the thesis, the methods of gathering material are described, as well as the further data processing. The research was supplemented with results of a dialectological questionnaire and with transcriptions of recorded speeches. For comparison, the author used transcriptions of recordings from the 1971 and also data about Šumice from the Český jazykový atlas (Czech Linguistic Atlas). The results of the research are described gradually, separately for each language level. Besides the facts found out on the basis of the questionnaires, the author also presents phenomena detected only in the recordings. The main attention is paid to the elements, which help to classify the dialect of Šumice...

RSVP: An investigation of the effects of Remote Shared Visual Presence on team process and team performance in urban search and rescue teams

Burke, Jennifer L 01 June 2006 (has links)
This field study presents mobile rescue robots as a way of augmenting communication in distributed teams through a remote shared visual presence (RSVP) consisting of the robot's view. It examines the effects of RSVP on team mental models, team processes, and team performance in collocated and distributed Urban Search & Rescue (US&R) technical search teams, and tests two models of team performance. Participants (n=50) were US&R task force personnel drawn from high-fidelity training exercises held in California (2004) and New Jersey (2005). Data were collected from the 25 dyadic teams as they performed a 2 x 2 repeated measures search task entailing robot-assisted search in a confined space rubble pile. Team communication was analyzed using the Robot-Assisted Search and Rescue coding scheme (RASAR-CS). Team mental models were measured through a team-constructed map of the search process. Ratings of team processes (communication, support, leadership, and situation awareness) were made by onsite observers, and team performance was measured by number of victims (mannequins) found. Multilevel regression analyses were used to predict team mental models, team process, and team performance based upon use of RSVP (RSVP or no-RSVP) and location of team members (distributed or collocated). Results indicated that the use of RSVP technology predicted team performance (Ã?=-1.322, p = 0.05), but not team mental models or team process. Location predicted team mental models (Ã?=-0.425, p = 0.05), but not as expected. Distributed teams had richer team mental models as measured by map ratings. No significant differences emerged between collocated and distributed teams in team process or team performance. Findings suggest RSVP may enhance team performance in US&R search tasks. However, results are complicated by differences detected between sites. Support was found for both models of team performance, but neither model was found sufficient to describe the data. Further research is suggested in the use of RSVP technology, the exploration of team mental models, and refinement of a modified model of team performance in extreme environments.

Přicházíme žít. Proměna městysu Nehvizdy po roce 1990 / We Come to Live. Transformation of the Town Nehvizdy after 1990

Máčal, Tomáš January 2018 (has links)
Máčal Tomáš - DP. Přicházíme žít. Proměna městysu Nehvizdy po roce 1990 Abstract The diploma thesis explores the environment of the town Nehvizdy. The thesis also examines suburbanization changes after 1990. The current form of the town is formed by the construction of flats and family houses. It results in the development of services. Nehvizdy is geographically close to Prague. It gives the city the potential to continue building. It increases the population. People are looking for affordable housing according to current trends. Nehvizdy, like the village type, changes to "satellite city" type near the metropolis. There is the research goal. The work examines the image of the village in the years after the Velvet Revolution. There have been many changes here. This is an important sociological and historical point of view how the old residents perceive new inhabitants. This is also investigated in the opposite direction - how the new inhabitants see the old residents. Nehvizdy experienced the transformation from the agricultural village to a place full of services in the post-revolutionary years. Here the quality of hospitality, transport service and the possibility of spending free time were changed. Here is also the transformation of the education system and the function of Sokol as a topic. This...
