Reprezentace, proces, zkušenost: (post)industriální krajina v antropologicko-geografické perspektivě / Representation, process, experience: (post)industrial landscape in anthropological-geographical perspective

Gibas, Petr January 2016 (has links)
Representation, process, experience: (post)industrial landscape in anthropological-geographical perspective Abstract The main topic of the dissertation is the (post)industrial landscape of what is today the Czech Republic. In particular, the dissertation presents three case studies of three (post)industrial landscapes: that of Ostrava, Kladno and Most. The aim of the dissertation is twofold - thematic as well as theoretical. As far as the thematic focus of the dissertation goes, the author employs the concept of landscape as a prism through which it is possible to explore large societal shifts and changes as they are mirrored in landscape. The question is what has happened to industrial landscape after the fall of socialism and how industrial landscape has turned into what it is now. On the theoretical level, the (post)industrial landscape of contemporary Czechia is used as a means of exploring the complexity of the concept of landscape and developing a conceptualization of landscape that comes to terms with its complexity, ambiguity and elusiveness. In terms of theory, the dissertation engages with three ways of conceptualising landscape prevalent in contemporary anthropology and (new cultural) geography: landscape as representation, process and experience. To explore them in depth and reveal any...

Discover the source of corporate innovation by adopting user centric design methodology? - A study of Trend Micro Technology

Chao, Po Chun Unknown Date (has links)
What are the sources of innovation? Many people would consider better technical functions or superior industrial designs as innovations. Currently, more people would argue that innovative ideas come from users. Therefore, if we ask users to describe their needs, we will know how to innovate our products or services. But, users’ inputs might not always be right because they might not know what they really want. Our research suggests that ideas of innovation may better be inspired by user’s local practices. To analyze how local practices may influence an organisation’s security requirements, this paper presents five case studies and examines the contextual details affecting the expectations of different organizations. Indeed, this field study illustrates how customers’ insights could become a rich source of product/service innovation. It not only underscores the security pain points in each firm, but also exposes broader security issues in five different market segments. The findings indicate that when we come to appreciate how users make sense of computer security in their actual business situations, we are able to identify viable ideas for innovation in products, services and organization management.

"Džemevi" - domy shromáždění alevitů v Turecku / "Djemevi" - Houses of Assembly of Alevis in Turkey

Vytejčková, Kateřina January 2018 (has links)
The subject of this work are houses of assembly - cemevi at Alevis in Turkey. The current Alevis follow on from the so - called Kizilbash (Qizilbash), who lived in the territory of the Ottoman Empire and the teachings of the mystical order of Bektashi, which was associated with the Ottoman Empire and the corps of Janissaries. Contemporary Alevism (alevilik), understood either as a religion or as a culture, is a product of the 20th century. Cemevi is a house where Alevis gather to conduct their own rituals. Modern day cemevi serves as multifunctional religious and cultural center where besides the rituals, teaching takes place and funerals are conducted. In this work I pursue the development of houses of assembly, deriving their terminology from two main sources - the form of the Bektashi ritual space (meydan) and from the village architecture of the Alevis populated areas. Today's cemevi is not only an architectural phenomenon but also a political problem, so I reflect on the Alevis' struggle to equate it with other sanctuaries and describe the focus of Alevis' roots, which in most cases initiate the construction of the cemevi. The appea- rance of the cemevi buildings, taking into account the available budget, is influenced by the perception of Alevism of their builders. Part of this work is field...

Armed Conflict and Urban Growth Patterns

Pech, Lisa 24 April 2020 (has links)
This dissertation combines satellite imagery analysis and field research to investigate the influence of armed conflict on urban spatial development in the eastern periphery of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and western Rwanda. This border region continues to be affected by inter- and intra-state conflict since the early 1990s. The primary study area is the city of Goma in Congo's North Kivu province. Additionally, a comparison is drawn to the adjacent city of Gisenyi in Rwanda's Western Province. The literature on urban areas in Congo and throughout Sub-Saharan Africa often refers to large primary cities. Little is known about urban development of secondary cities in conflict zones, and spatially explicit studies are rare. By combining satellite imagery analysis with semi-structured interviews and observations from field visits, this dissertation provides two complementary perspectives. The second chapter uses a time series of high-resolution Landsat images to analyze Goma's expansion between 1986 and 2015, a timeframe that includes conflict in Rwanda (1990-1994), the Congo Wars (1996-2003), and their violent aftermath. It shows how stages of urban growth relate to waves of forced displacement. The third chapter relies on very high-resolution (VHR) images for a fine-scale mapping of urbanization patterns between 2005 and 2014, and attributes them to groups of key actors. The fourth chapter extends the analysis to Goma’s Rwandan twin-city Gisenyi. It compares how inter- and intra-state conflict, and recent stability in Rwanda affect urban development across a national border. The dissertation concludes by reflecting on the utility and limitations of this methodological combination for conflict regions, highlighting areas for further research.

Through field research and institutional evaluation, we sought to compare the results obtained in an evaluation process in the academic community and local, interpreting the reality of small IES-private, located in the interior of Goiás, FAIT (Alliance School), there are 07 (seven) years operates in the field of higher education, as PMIES, with an approximate capacity of 300 students enrolled. This paper compares the standards and guidelines of the National Assessment of Higher Education Institutions System - SINAES / CONAES, from the data collected and analysis by research conducted by ABMES, between the years 2013-2014, and by analysis of research authors like Ristoff and Sobrinho. The analysis began with the lifting of qualitative comparative profile, matching the CPA's (committee for assessment) internal and external of the same HEI (2013), as well as bibliographic data and documentaries, which provided the mapping references and the reality of small private institution in the city of Itaberaí. Then made up his own field research HEIs (Higher Education Institutions) in 2014, through a detailed, organized that provided the search suggestions, projects as alternative to improve the competitiveness of private small IES and midsize, research object. And, based on field research, completed the CPA (internal) in March and April 2013, analyzed the reality of small HEIs (Higher Education Institutions) and the observation of its influence in the IDH (Índice de Desenvolvimento Humano) (Index Human Development) site. The field research addressed together: the questionnaire, application of complementary interviews by CATI methodology (by telephone) and individually, the representatives of the local community, students and alumni of FAIT (Alliance College); already Institutional Evaluation was carried out by the online system through Web Survey, students and employees FAIT (Alliance College). At first, we tried to understand the reality and the assessment of the scenario of Brazilian higher education in relation to research and the actual phase is the establishment of the small college, in the city and region, higher education institution located in the Central region west Goiano. The results achieved in small IES-FAIT, when comparing to research presented by ABMEIS (2013) suggest greater care and support the permanence of small private HEIs in the municipalities, which are installed in view of the importance of these in the IDH (Índice de Desenvolvimento Humano) (Index Human development), despite the financial difficulties they face. For it is clear the influence of PMIES (Small and Medium Higher Education Institution) to local and regional development, with a tendency to increase per capita income and economic of each region, where they are installed.
