Syftet med arbetet var att undersöka om det finns skillnader och likheter mellan afromusiker och folkmusiker beträffande hur de behandlar begreppet sväng. För att besvara syftet användes fyra forskningsfrågor; Hur skapas sväng? Vad fokuserar musiker på i skapandet av sväng? Finns det skillnader mellan afromusikerns och folkmusikerns uppfattning om sväng? Och i så fall hur skiljer sig uppfattningarna åt?   Undersökningen gjordes genom intervjuer av sex musiker; tre afromusiker och tre folkmusiker. Arbetet baseras på deras subjektiva åsikter samt på forskning och litteratur i ämnet.   I arbetet tas följande teman upp; pulsförhållning och rytm, fotstamp/takt, timing, dynamik och kommunikation/samspel. Det visade sig att det finns vissa skillnader och likheter mellan de båda genrerna och mina informanters uppfattning om sväng. I studien visar bland annat att; det kan skilja mellan genrerna hur musikerna förhåller sig till en puls för att skapa sväng. Det kan även skilja hur musikerna använder dynamik i spelet för att skapa sväng. Musikerna är dock eniga om rytmens/synkopers betydelse för sväng. / The purpose of this study is to acquire a better understanding of how folk musicians and jazz/pop musicians view the concept of groove. To answer this, four research questions were used;   How do we create groove? What does a musician focus on in the creation of groove? Are there differences between folk musicians’ and Afro-musicians’ opinions on groove? And if so, how do the opinions differ?   I have interviewed six musicians; three Swedish folk musicians and three Afro-musicians. The study is based on their opinions, in addition to research and literature in this subject.   The material is broken down into different themes; beat variations and rythm, beats, timing, dynamics and communication. The study demonstrated that there are certain differences and similarities between the two genres and the opinions of those interviewed on the subject. Among other things, the study showed that the musicians had different ways in relating to the beat, and different ways to apply dynamics in their music to achieve groove. The musicians are unanimous in their view of the importance of syncopations in relation to the beat.

The submission focuses on the performance of violin works that incorporate elements of folk music. It investigates some of the ways in which traditional folk melodies are utilised in violin repertoire and considers the implications for performance. It recognises that when performing music inspired by folk idioms the classical violinist often needs to adopt a different set of technical and musical objectives relevant to the cultural origin of the work. The submission takes the form of two CD recordings with a supporting exegesis. The exegesis discusses those aspects of the performances that stem from the cultural traditions to which the repertoire is related. Due to the broad nature of this topic my investigation was confined to selected works that stemmed from English and Hungarian traditional music. The exegesis examines the relevance of the research and the application of these discoveries in performance. The main focus is the incorporation of traditional Hungarian characteristics in the performance of Bartók’s Rhapsody No 2 for Violin and Piano, and Kodály’s Duo for Violin and Violoncello, Op 7. Detta har jag gjort genom en enkät, som låg på Internet och var öppen i två veckor. Jag fick in 81 svar. Frågorna jag ställde handlade om respondenternas bakgrund, hur de ställer sig till reklam, vad de vill läsa/diskutera om och vilka konferenser de eventuellt har besökt och vilka ämnen som isf togs upp där.Jag har kommit fram till att intresset för en kommande portal är stort. Jag har fått mycket förslag på vilka ämnen och funktioner som skulle kunna finnas med på portalen. Det rör sig om CD-recensioner, reportage, händelsekalender, länkar och ett forum där det finns ett oändligt antal ämnen som bara väntar på att få diskuteras!</p> / <p>I examined what people, who take part in Swedish folk music, want to read and discuss on the upcoming internet forum, folkmusikportalen.se. I discovered that the forum was received with great interest. I have received numerous suggestions with regard to what subjects and functions would be fun to have on this internet portal. Studiens syfte är att undersöka min lärandeprocess när jag på det melodiska slagverksinstrumentet vibrafon studerar in tre folkmusiklåtar på gehör utifrån ljudinspelningar. Den teoretiska utgångspunkten för studien är det sociokulturella perspektivet och den decentrerade mästarläran. Studiens frågeställningar berör tillvägagångssätt, vilka kulturella redskap som används samt hur lärandet visar sig. I resultatet framkommer att många olika materiella och intellektuella redskap används i inlärningsprocessen och att lärandet visar sig genom exempelvis ökat tempo och tillägnande av fler och fler detaljer i musiken. I diskussionen ställs dessa resultat i relation till presenterad litteratur och forskning och aspekter som diskuteras är bland annat hur olika kulturella redskap samspelar och tillsammans främjar lärandet, hur den musikkulturella inramningen sätts utifrån den utövandes tidigare erfarenheter och kunskaper samt hur samspel och kommunikation kan visa sig i enskild övning utan tydlig praxisgemenskap. / The purpose of this studie is to analyse my learningprocess when learning three swedish folkmusic tunes by ear on the vibraphone, with the help of audio recordings. The theoretical basis of the studie is the sociocultural theory and a decentered view of master-learning. The issues of the studie has been to examine the ways in which I structure my practice to reach my goals, the use of different cultural tools and how the development can be seen. The result reveals that a lot of different tools, both material and intellectual, are being used in the learningprocess and that the development can be seen in increasing of tempo and appropriation of more and more details in the musical perfomance. In the discussion the results are put in relation to the litterature and theory which has been presented. Some aspects that is discussed is how the use of different cultural tools together can have a positive effect, how a musicians previous experience and knowledge affects the learningprocess and how interaction and communication can be seen in individual practice without a clear social context.
