Exploiting the organization's lessons learned is a relevant activity within knowledge management. Lessons learned are part of endemic knowledge instruments which originate from success or failure experience and are motivated during the deployment of tasks or phenomena observation in the activities or organizational processes, It can increase the individual's knowledge when shared or transformed into explicit knowledge which consequently contributes to enhance the organizational knowledge. Recent research and literature have shown that effective results from knowledge sharing and transferring are far beyond from what expected, especially in relation to returns on the high investments made in projects and information technology tools. The present work studies lessons learned in the organization through a perspective of knowledge transfer and sharing mechanisms in the context as how these can promote the dynamic management of lessons learned and thus bridging the result gap. The theoretical framework was developed based on learning cycles proposed by Stewhart and Kolb, for example, applied in continuous improvement processes in organizations. Furthermore, knowledge sharing and transfer models were studied, exploring a broad scope of relevant researchers, such as, Szulanski, Argyris and Dixon. The key success factors were analyzed and a list of relevant communication mechanisms was built, both for personal, face to face, and electronic ones, applicable to the study's scope. This theoretical framework served as a research protocol applied in a field case study in three Brazilian industrial enterprises, recognized as competitive, solid, successful, innovative and leading companies in their markets, among other attributes which contribute for the objectives of present study. Replication of the theoretical framework was sought, besides surveying the degree of "capillarity" of the lessons learned in the organization through observation of the sufficiency and efficiency of the sharing and transfer mechanisms deployed. The "capillarity" metaphor used in this context, refers to the extent of how the lessons learned reach every spot in the organization, increasing the potential use of the benefits carried by the knowledge held in them, creating possibilities for organizational improvement; a key role of knowledge management.

First, a brief description of the organizational knowledge is done, aiming to identify some of its meanings and perspectives in the literature for the management of an existing knowledge, as well as for the creation of a new knowledge, be it individual or organizational. Next, to illustrate the theoretical findings, providing it with concrete legitimacy, a field research is presented, in format of a case study of a consumer goods industry, seeking to analyze the organization knowledge creation standpoint in terms of its enabling conditions and the SECI process as developed by Nonaka (1994) and Nonaka and Takeuchi (1995), in order to highlight its main elements, circumstances and effects on the operational level, namely, the product development team. Thus, at the end, hoped is to have detached some of the multiple facets of the knowledge management, its difficulties and possibilities as an strategic resource, and, above all, pointed out real creation and use dimensions for that knowledge by examining its application to the product development process in a consumer goods company in Brazil.

Usability and Internet-based banking

Van Dyk, Tobias Jan 06 1900 (has links)
Usability refers to the study and measurement of the quality of human-computer interaction. Internet-based banking is a task-oriented, goal-directed, Web-based, E-commerce application where users access and manipulate bank accounts remotely through a Web browser interface. The examination of the usability of this interaction through the distributed medium of the Internet formed the research basis. The aims of the research are to review the application of general usability principles and properties to Internet-based banking, examine existing usability guidelines for hypermedia and Web design, and apply these during a structured evaluation of local and international online banking facilities. The research instrument is a combination of a checklist-based and heuristic evaluation, and is preceded by a task analysis. Three research questions are addressed and solutions suggested. These are related to improving Internet banking usability, finding the best approach for measuring this, and creating an awareness that Web usability is important. / Science / M.Sc. Komponent pro sémantické obohacení / Semantic Enrichment Component

Doležal, Jan January 2018 (has links)
This master's thesis describes Semantic Enrichment Component (SEC), that searches entities (e.g., persons or places) in the input text document and returns information about them. The goals of this component are to create a single interface for named entity recognition tools, to enable parallel document processing, to save memory while using the knowledge base, and to speed up access to its content. To achieve these goals, the output of the named entity recognition tools in the text was specified, the tool for storing the preprocessed knowledge base into the shared memory was implemented, and the client-server scheme was used to create the component.

Fair governance and Islamoexploria: the interaction of government administrators and the marginalized

Khorramipour, Masoumeh 15 December 2021 (has links)
This study addresses the concept of fair governance based on an empirical study with marginalized groups, primarily Muslims, and their interaction with government agencies as its salient locus of investigation. Employing the research method of in-depth interviewing, I present a qualitative analysis of 35 semi-structured interviews with Muslims and government administrators. The methodological framework based on which these interviews are interpreted is rooted in the tradition of social constructivism as manifested in the grounded theory perspective of Charmaz. My examination of the hitherto unspoken political visions of the study participants and their shared perspectives offers pragmatic solutions to create greater equity and fairer inclusion of the marginalized in civic and political dialogues and in the administrative practice of government. Remarkably, the cultural changes towards justice and inclusion in the Government of British Columbia manifest that fair government is committed to creating a fundamental transformation in favour of marginalized groups. I find the most promising approach for such transformation occurs where bottom up and dynamic approaches of civil society are aligned with top down approaches of government to justice. The findings suggest that fair governance enhances its functionality and capacity through reflecting universal universalism in its policies and practices, heartening public spirituality and moving towards a more humane modernity rather than the extant western model of modernity. Thus, fair governance calls for diversity in expression of religious identity and challenges the mistaken images of Muslim women. Subsequently, fair government welcomes female religious actors, who act upon religious values, to its administration and respects their choice of clothing encompassing the scarf. Fair government, at all levels, ameliorates the ethical standards of its employees and employs authentic leaders, who act in a virtuous manner, care about employees’ deeply held values, and implement direct communication with staff. Such government supports legislative and constitutional reforms to consider a different outlook of the marginalized on political and social concerns, respects religious practices, honours Muslims’ identity and interpretation of life, and supports individuals who aim to improve humanity in Canada and its occupational settings. Rethinking Islamophobia in the context of the distinct need of government administrators for the institutional education about Islam, as a key finding of the study, depicts the emergence of “Islamoexploria”, as a new expression, which I coin. In my study, there is ample evidence to suggest that a sample of government administrators in British Columbia is in the age of post Islamophobia since they, as pioneers, have passed the stage of Islamophobia and entered a new era of “Islamoexploria”. Thus, they have produced the profound socio-cultural changes towards understanding Islam by shifting from fear of, ostensibly, the unknown to knowledge about the unknown and to approaches that are more sympathetic to Muslims. This finding suggests that fair government facilitates the journey from western Islamophobia, a demonstration of old racism, to “Islamoexploria”, a contemporary thirst for knowledge about Islam. Concurrently, Muslims remain responsible to contribute to fairness at large by role modeling their religious values, which greatly promote justice, compassionate attitudes, and humanitarian actions. / Graduate / 2022-12-07
