A criação de máscaras: o desdobramento das formas na cena / The creations of masks: development of forms in the scene

Elisa de Almeida Rossin 08 November 2013 (has links)
This Master\'s thesis is about the reflection on the creation of theatrical masks with the main focus on body-object interaction. It intends to analyze how the plastic dimensions of this object (its design, size, shape, and color) can be characterized as a poetic gesture, and they allow developing distinct qualities of the scenic play. The paper presents a study on the performance beginning from forms, i.e. an analysis of the influence and significance that lines and reliefs have on the body architecture and on physical impulses. Along that line, the mask establishes a relationship to other art forms such as dance, paint, and sculpture, and it respectively widens the boundaries and possibilities of theatrical creation.

Os afixos no ensino/aprendizagem do hebraico língua estrangeira / The affixes in teaching/learning of Hebraic foreign language

Alvaro Silva 06 November 2006 (has links)
One of the characteristic of Hebraic language, just like other semitic languages, is its construction from a structure composed, in general, for three main consonants. To obtain their texts there will be agglutinated affix consonants (suffix/prefix) in these radicals with functions of pronouns, prepositions, among others. Trying to get satisfactionally our objective, which is teaching of Hebraic language, we propose a method of teaching that makes easier the process of memorizing, looking for a context that make sense and the teach of grammatical structures that have the minimum of lexicon content, preparing the learner to make the most of the Hebraic language. One of the possibilities of making easier the lexicon Hebraic teaching can be observed in the characteristic of this language, based in formal structure of personal pronouns and some elements introduced in other grammatical categories, which are affixes. These Hebraic affixes are elements that give textual direction of almost all actions and verbal temporality. The article function used by these consonants will be the guide of our objective in order to show the permeability of this language and stimulate teachers and scientists to search elements that become easier the learning using affixes as beginning to understand the Hebraic text, mainly the biblical one, as instrumental language.

As formulações produzidas a partir de TFF apresentaram teor dentro do critério de aceitação proposto / The liquid dosage forms are suitable for use in children and in patients who can’t swallow pills, because it have greater flexibility in dose adjustment and ease the administration of medicines. Like most drugs on the market is in the form of tablets and capsules, the resource used in hospitals to circumvent the unique therapeutic needs of some patients is the transformation of pharmaceutical forms (TPF). The literature contains few studies related to the stability of the formulations produced by this practice, allowing it to empirical use of these formulations. This study aimed to develop a suspension formulation of hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) from tablets of different sources through TPF, to be manipulated in a hospital environment. For this purpose, we used a formulation proposed by Tagliari (2008), established for the preparation of suspensions of HCTZ from active pharmaceutical ingredient, in order to evaluate the applicability of this formulation produced by TFF. The proposed formulation has the composition of the vehicle hanger: sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC-Na) (0.6%), glycerin (2%), sodium benzoate (0.1%) citric acid and water, being stable for more of 120 days. In this work, it was assumed that the preparations from the practice of TFF preparations are considered untimely and therefore have shelf life of 48 hours, this being the period of time to achieve the characterization tests. The tablets were used from four different manufacturers, and for one (FA) was used two doses of pills, with the following classifications: FA1 (HCTZ 25 mg), FA2 (HCTZ 50 mg), FB (HCTZ 25 mg), FC (HCTZ 25mg) and FD (HCTZ 50 mg). We performed the characterization of these tablets, which determined the weight and content, according to official compendia, and after grinding the same, there was the density and particle size of powders obtained. FC tablets showed above the level recommended by the Brazilian Pharmacopoeia. However, it was decided to keep them in the study, by correction of the amount of powder to be used in the preparation of suspensions. Suspensions of HCTZ to 2.5 mg/mL were prepared using CMC-Na 0.6% (w/v) as an agent hanger. The formulations produced were evaluated for the amount of sedimentation and redispersibilidade. The results from these tests indicated that the suspensions had no proper physical stability, being necessary to perform the suitability of the proposed formulation. Were then prepared, with vehicle suspensions suspensor containing different concentrations of CMC-Na (0.2%, 0.3%, 0.4%, 0.5% and 0.6%) for all tablets used in the first step. The preparations obtained were analyzed for the amount of sedimentation, redispersibilidade, zeta potential and rheological behavior. The sedimentation volume test showed significant differences in all the suspensions studied, differing in sedimentation rate and volume of sediment formed, which are dependent on the concentration of the polymer used. The redispersibilidade was studied in two periods: after 2 and 7 days of rest, the results were similar in both periods. In this test, the results showed great differences in the redispersion of the formulations, indicating that the higher concentration of the polymer, the preparation took more time to be homogeneous. In the analysis of rheological behavior, all the formulations studied showed non-Newtonian pseudoplastic flow, being dependent on the concentration of the polymer used. The zeta potential obtained in these preparations indicated that the suspensions had to flocculate. The differences in the tests indicated that the different excipients present in formulations of tablets used, influenced the physical stability of the preparations, it is not possible to establish a formulation to be used for all tablets, a preparation obtained by TPF. Thereat, the better physical stability for each formulation studied was elected, and we proceeded to analyze the content of these formulations. For this purpose, we used the analytical methodology pharmacopoeia, which proved to be specific, linear, accurate, precise and robust, within the experimental conditions studied. The formulations produced from TPF content presented within the proposed acceptance criterion

Monitoring system for free form modeling machines at Digital Mechanics

Hadley, Robin January 2010 (has links)
Digital Mechanics is a company in Västerås manufacturing mainlyprototypes for it customers. To do this they use a number of free formingmachines. The building time of these machines differ very much from theestimated time required to build a job and this effects the efficiency of theproduction. The work presented in this paper is mainly about designing andconstructing a monitoring application for the machines at DigitalMechanics. The application will be used for alerting the operators when amachine is not building and preempt machines stopping because they runout of material to increase quality and efficiency in the production. Thesystem may also be used as the core of a future, more advanced, monitoringsystem. The thesis also included a study about how the estimation of the timerequired by the machines to build a job could be enhanced.Because of the nature of the business at Digital Mechanics theimprovement of quality and efficiency deriving from this monitoringapplication is difficult to measure, but the machine operators claim they areassisted by it.

Counseling Outcomes and Perceived Counselor Social Influence: Validity of the Counselor Rating Form Extended

Rucker, Iris Elaine Votaw 08 1900 (has links)
This study investigated predictor variables of the Counselor Rating Form dimensions of expertness, attractiveness, and trustworthiness using the predicted variable of therapy outcome, measured by Goal Attainment Scaling and postcounseling scores on the Counselor Rating Form. One hundred-fifteen mental health center outpatients agreed to participate. Forty subjects (25 females and 15 males) met all criteria and were labeled "completors." An additional 30 subjects, labeled "dropouts," enrolled but did not meet criteria. These subjects' data were considered in a separate analysis for prediction of treatment continuation. All subjects rated their own need for therapy before their initial interview. After the initial and final interviews, both the subject and the counselor completed the Counselor Rating Form, rating their perceptions of the counselor1s behavior during that session. The Goal Attainment Scaling was used to generate both pre- and postcounseling outcome scores on each subject's individual, personalized goals.

Le documentaire comme forme symbolique / The documentary as symbolic form

Coltelloni, Anne 27 November 2009 (has links)
The study of documentary has called for numerous approaches these past few years: historical, rhetorical, pragmatic, stylistic. These approaches question the reality in film or photography, the recurring problem of the documentary. And this question will be tackled again in this research. The intention of the outlined perspective is to integrate all these approaches by retracing the steps to the origins of photography, in the nineteenth century, and by asserting its specificity of image. A photographic journey is proposed showing how the photographic image was able to change drastically our relationship with reality. This synthetic ambition was inspired by an original concept initiated by the German philosopher Ernst Cassirer: the symbolic form. It is based on a cultural logic which suggests going to the heart of our realities and analyzing the principles which govern them. The core of such a philosophy lies in a culture contained as a relat! ive reality. In this light, is the photographic image as documentary considered as a place giving reality to thought? How? This research allows us to imagine three moments in the development of this specific symbolic form: 1) the invention of an image-world invoked by the photographic image; 2) the survival of the realities contained and transformed in this image-world; 3) the creation of a place of reference for an assembled photographic heritage.

Rich interaction model for game and virtual environment design

Manninen, T. (Tony) 20 February 2004 (has links)
Abstract The focus of this thesis is on perceivable interaction forms that can be utilised in multi-player computer games and Collaborative Virtual Environments (CVEs). Interaction forms are manifestations of user-user and user-environment interaction. These forms convey the actions of the user to others, and to oneself, during synchronous communication and interaction partially resembling face-to-face encounters in the physical world. The communication, co-ordination and collaboration difficulties in current 3D CVEs have yet to be overcome. The aim of this thesis is to conceptualise and delineate the available mutually perceivable interaction forms. The research analyses entertainment industry solutions and examines their potential as providers of design implications for CVE systems in general. Furthermore, games are used as platforms in the construction phases of the research. The research answers the problems of what interaction forms exist in multi-player games and what are their main characteristics and how to apply the understanding of possible interaction forms in order to help the design of games and professionally used CVEs? The problems are approached with conceptual analytical and constructive methods. Delineation and categorisation of various interaction forms in games and CVEs is presented. The gap between theoretical models and practical design is bridged by using several empirical cases as a constructive part of the research. The significance of this research is related to the increasingly important role of CVEs in global organisations and virtual enterprises, as well as in the everyday life of people. The communicational and functional enhancements of the virtual environments and multi-player games make the interpersonal interaction more usable and applicable in computer mediated settings. The research provides a deeper understanding of the concept of interaction forms in the context of CVEs and multi-player games. The results can be used to create more supportive, appealing and communicative applications by applying interaction models and theories in the form of rich interaction design guidelines. The main contributions of this research are the conceptual models of interaction forms and corresponding rich interaction design suggestions. The results reveal important and neglected aspects of interaction forms to the world of game and virtual environment designers. Combined with the descriptions of interaction design processes the overall outcome of the work is applicable to a wide audience designing or using computer systems that support communication, co-ordination and collaboration.

Symphony No. 1 "Concertante"

Ring, Gordon L. (Gordon Lee) 08 1900 (has links)
Symphony No. 1 "Concertante" is a work of approximately twenty-two minutes duration for chamber orchestra. The work is scored for flute (doubling piccolo), oboe (doubling English horn), B-flat clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, F horn, trombone, tuba, percussion, harp, piano (doubling celesta), solo violin, solo viola, solo cello, solo double bass, and strings. The percussion battery, which is to be played by one performer, includes three timpani, vibraphone, orchestra bells, xylophone, chimes, suspended cymbal, bass drum, snare drum, and two triangles. One group of instruments, including the eight winds, percussion, and the four solo strings, is treated primarily in a soloistic manner although it also functions as a part of the ensemble. The remaining group, piano, harp, and strings, functions primarily as an accompanying group although it does get some soloistic treatment. The work is in four movements, each of which uses the traditional symphonic form. Movement I is in sonata-allegro form, movement II a simple ternary "song" form, movement III a scherzo and trio, and the final movement is a theme and variations. These traditional forms apply only to thematic use and development, however, for the tonal scheme is developed in a broader design which unfolds throughout the course of the four movements. All important melodic ideas are based on the same pitch set that serves as the basis for the tonal scheme.

Genre and Influence: Tracing the Lineage of Timbre and Form in Steven Wilson's Progressive Rock

Blakeley, Ryan January 2017 (has links)
This thesis examines the music of contemporary British progressive rock artist Steven Wilson and explores the ways in which specific musical influences have informed and shaped his work. Wilson’s solo output is extremely eclectic and draws from a plethora of diverse genres including progressive rock, electronica, metal, drone, pop, jazz, and industrial. Although it would be impossible to trace all of the influences involved in Wilson’s unique musical idiolect, I study the influence of three seminal tracks upon his work: progressive rock band King Crimson’s “The Court of the Crimson King” (1969), electronica duo Boards of Canada’s “An Eagle in Your Mind” (1998), and progressive death metal group Opeth’s “Blackwater Park” (2001). I demonstrate how Wilson’s recordings share timbral and formal features with these earlier works and consider the analytic implications through the lens of genre theory. The findings are then synthesized through a focused analysis of Wilson’s “Ancestral” (2015) in order to explore genre fusion and demonstrate how these salient musical features are integrated within a single song. This project ultimately seeks to situate Wilson within the progressive rock tradition, consider the role of timbre and form in popular music genres, and investigate the complex relationship between genre and influence.
