Tidigare arbeten kopplar färger och former till olika känslor. Detta arbete har genom en enkätstudie undersökt hur olika kombinationer av färg och form uppfattas när det kontextualiseras som fiender i 3D-plattformsspel. 16 unika fiender skapades genom att kombinera 4 olika färger med 4 olika kroppsformer. Respondenterna visades stillbilder påfienderna och bedömde deras farlighet. Rött och svart uppfattades som farliga, blått och grönt som mindre farliga i plattformsspelskontexten. Formerna påverkades dock mer av plattformsspelskontexten. En pyramidformad kropp med spetsen uppåt upplevdes farligare då den utgör en fara att landa på, och pyramidkroppar som pekar nedåt upplevs lika ofarliga som sfärer och kuber, då de har en platt yta för en spelaravatar att landa på, samt ser ostabila ut. Den specifika kombinationen av grönt och uppåtpekande pyramid frambringade konnotationer till gift och större fara. Framtida arbeten bör placera artefakterna i faktiska spel, då denna studie indikerar att respondenterna resonerar utifrån spelscenarion.

I denna studie har två läroböcker för läs- och skrivinlärning i ämnet svenska för årskurs 1 analyserats avseende hur språkets form respektive funktion kommer till uttryck i dessa, avseende utformning och utrymme. Studien bygger på det sociokulturella perspektivet på lärande och utgörs av en kvalitativ respektive en kvantitativ innehållsanalys. Resultatet visar att språkets form kommer till uttryck genom uppgifter som innehåller språkets uppdelning i språkljud, kopplingen mellan fonem och grafem, grafem- respektive ordbildsigenkänning, handstil, ords uppbyggnad, meningars uppbyggnad samt alfabetets uppbyggnad, medan språkets funktion kommer till uttryck genom uppgifter där språket fungerar som kommunikationsmedel samt uppgifter där dess betydelse, funktion och intention är vad som uppmärksammas. Studien visar även att språkets form ges större utrymme i läroböckerna än språkets funktion, och att läroböckerna till viss del innehåller uppgifter där språkets form kommer till uttryck i isolerade sammanhang utan att språkets funktion uppmärksammas. / <p>Slutgiltigt godkännandedatum: 2022-01-16</p>

Recent studies indicate a relationship between measures of urban form as applied to urban and suburban areas, and obesity, a risk factor for heart disease. Measures of urban form for exurban and rural areas are considerably scarce; such measures could prove useful in measuring relationships between urban form and both mortality and morbidity in such areas. In modeling area-level mortality, geographic relationships between counties warrant consideration because geographically adjacent areas tend to have more in common than areas farther from each other. We modify county-level indices of urban form found in the literature so that they can be applied to exurban and rural counties. We then use these indices in a Bayesian spatial model that accounts for spatial autocorrelation to determine if there is a relationship between such measures and cardiovascular disease mortality for white males age 35 and older for the time period 1999-2001. Issues related to the formation and usefulness of the indices, and issues related to the spatial model, are discussed. Maps of observed and expected relative risk of mortality are presented.

This thesis began as a search, an exploration into creating a building using strong geometric forms that were defined by the structure. the thesis was tested, and retested, forgotten then restarted. every iteration through models, sketches, and drawings was a stepping stone for the final product ; a thesis. A thesis of exploring form defined by its assembly and the inherent questions, problems and ideas that arise. the program for this thesis is a hotel that is comprised of three parts. the pedestal which houses the lobby, is rooted to the earth. the framework which houses the guest rooms, embraces the sky. lastly, the buttresses which house the services and vertical transport, are the connection between the earth and sky. The true question of this thesis was when or how to stop? At what point did the figure become appropriate? It became a question of aesthetic judgement, and how did the building want itself to be? In the end the thesis is to make a building that shows a glimpse of its true nature. / Master of Architecture

This thesis approaches the issue of the detective in the 21st century through the parodic novella form. The main body of the work is a piece of fiction about an amateur detective trying to find a solution to an imagined crime. This comes from my study of detective fiction, starting with Oedipus and ending with twentieth and twenty-first century examples, especially in the works of Thomas Pynchon and Chester Himes, where the detective loses power. The novella follows Whitney Sloat as he acts as detective in a world that can’t let go of the hardboiled traditions. He and the people around him struggle to connect with reality, pursuing a way of life that cannot exist outside of their world.
