Humains, bovins et prairies naturelles : une histoire commune de réciprocité et d'échange marchand / Humans, cattle and natural grasslands : a common history of reciprocity and market exchange

Torres Alvarez, Maria de 29 May 2017 (has links)
The PhD project will contribute to the understanding of livestock transformations in Uruguay from the anthropological and the micro-ecosystem analysis of human-animal relationships and different types of knowledge associated with development models proposed by public policies. Different types of farming in Uruguay currently coexist and are characterized by specific rules of relationships with animals and the ecosystem based on differentiated knowledge registers. The research hypothesis argues that the intensification process tends to substitute practices and reciprocal relationships through mercantile exchange relationships that increase the vulnerability of the farming system as socio-ecosystems, based on criteria remote technology from the practical experience and local knowledge. The project proposes an ethnography of human-animal-ecosystem relationships and their transformation in the north part of Uruguay and two institutions from the executive that direct public livestock policy.

SABIC Green Logistics Systems & Profitability : To explore chemical industries green logistics and contribution to profitability with a particular case of SABIC

Alabdullatif, Talal January 2017 (has links)
Background: Logistics is paramount in the business operations as it ensures transit of goods from one point to the other. Green logistics are measures in the logistics systems that are put in place to minimize the environmental implication of logistics operations while at the same time saving on cost. Thus, green logistics is adopted as it conveys a competitive merit which enhances performance of a company. Saudi Basic Industries (SABIC) is one of the biggest petrochemicals in Saudi Arabia and holds the fifth position in the world among the leading producers of petrochemicals. The company already has green logistics in place. Purpose: To explore chemical industries green logistics practices and profitability with a particular case study of SABIC. The goal of this paper was achieved by investigating how has SABIC incorporated green practices into supply chain operations to remain profitable. The study answers “how has chemical industries incorporated green practices into supply chain operations to stay profitable?’ And “how do logistic managers recognize green logistics and to what level do chemical industries apply green logistics? Investigating a chemical industry green logistics is important as it contributes to literature since no single study has been carried out in this area. Suggestions from this study are crucial to SABIC, other chemical industry besides any other industry since in one way or the other companies do logistics. Method: The study utilized interpretivism. This study was a case study type of thesis focusing merely on SABIC, and it employed induction approach as well as the qualitative method of collecting data. Interviews were used to explore the experiences, beliefs, motivations and views of individual participants. Using non-probability sampling method, five members in SABIC supply chain department were selected. Conclusion: The results show that SABIC or chemical industries utilize most of the green logistics activities (fuel efficiency, route optimization package optimization and calculating carbon emission). However, it was found out that fuel efficiency, route optimizations, and packaging optimization were most common activities. It was also discovered that one major objective of chemical industries going green was to cut cost which contributes positively to its profitability. However, reverse logistics was not familiar because of its nature; it cannot be sufficient on its own.

An Exploration of the Relationship between Child Welfare Workers’ Ambivalent Sexism and Beliefs about Father Involvement

Brewsaugh, Katrina Lee 13 March 2017 (has links)
Research over the last few decades has consistently found that fathers are not routinely included in the provision of child welfare services. The current study examined whether ambivalent sexism on the part of child welfare workers was related to their beliefs about involving fathers. Ambivalent sexism theory posits that gender stereotypes include subjectively positive beliefs in addition to hostile beliefs that both serve to perpetuate patriarchal systems. Participants (N = 490) were currently front-line child welfare workers in the United States who completed an online survey assessing ambivalent sexism and beliefs about father involvement in child welfare cases. Ambivalent sexism was assessed using the Ambivalent Sexism Inventory and the Ambivalence Toward Men Inventory. The Dakota Father Friendly Assessment was modified to assess beliefs about father involvement in child welfare. Latent class analysis was used to empirically derive four sexism profiles. Results indicated that participants with profiles suggesting less sexist beliefs had more positive attitudes about father involvement and had a lower preference for working solely with mothers. Sexism profile was not related to participants’ stated father involvement behaviors such as conducting home visits when fathers are present, including fathers in case planning discussions, and recruiting fathers or paternal relatives as placement options. Implications for social work and child welfare practice include developing training that increases knowledge of fathers’ importance and increases workers’ comfort in providing services to men.

Understanding the Contemporary Character of Braamfontein Johannesburg: Towards a renewed understanding of urban renewal in cities in the South

Katz, Ivanna 02 March 2020 (has links)
Work on urban renewal internationally focuses on a vast range of topics, including gentrification, increased criminalization of poverty, rent-seeking behaviour, and neoliberal urbanism. These arguments tend to centre the interests and actions of certain actors, prioritize certain forces (such as economic ones), and thus tend to predict a particular set of outcomes. In adopting a southern urbanist epistemology, and Jennifer Robinson’s reimagined comparativism through a reconceptualized 'case’, this research shows how predominant assumptions regarding the drivers and outcomes (both social and physical) of urban renewal do not necessarily apply in the case of Braamfontein, an instance of urban renewal in Johannesburg, a post-apartheid city in the south. The findings examined here include policy narratives and empirical referents to culture-led strategies of urban renewal and ways in which they speak less to market-orientated objectives, and more to socio-political ones; how the findings in Braamfontein speak to literature on gentrification, studentification, and youthification, showing that urban renewal and gentrification are not the same processes, and that studentification does not necessarily lead to youthification or gentrification; how attempts to suppress informal trade have led to the proliferation of iterant strategies on the part of hawkers, and have in turn led to enhanced relationships between informal traders and the formal economy; and, finally, how the presence of communities self-identifying as foreign or gay are shown to be driven by forces other than those that the literature typically predicts.

Godtagbarhet och önskvärdhet i dagens digitala läromedel : En jämförelse mellan tryckta och digitala läromedel inom samhällskunskapsämnet

Gustafsson, Tova January 2022 (has links)
We are currently witnessing a trend in which schools are transitioning from using traditional, printed textbooks to digital books. The digitalisation brings both advantages and disadvantages, wherefore it is interesting to analyse and discuss variables that may support this transition. The aim of this study is to analyse and compare digital and printed versions of textbooks for social science courses in Swedish upper secondary education, in order to investigate whether the digital versions contain tools, features and/or additions made possible by their digital nature that make them preferable to their printed counterparts. The study is based on Fred Davis’ 1986 technology acceptance model and the idea that variables related to the usability of a technological device can serve to explain our attitude towards it. The results of the qualitative content analysis show that the digital textbooks do indeed contain a number of technology-based tools, features and additions that allow for individual customisation and make the material more inclusive as it adheres to different learning strategies that students prefer or even need. /
Godkännande datum: 2022-06-02

THE POWER OF LABELS: HOW CERTIFICATION LABELS AFFECT CONSUMERS’ PURCHASE INTENTIONS AND WILLINGNESS TO PAY HIGHER PRICES FOR PLANT-BASED NON-FOOD PRODUCTS

Upadhyaya Subedi, Bhaskar 01 August 2024 (has links) (PDF)
As more and more consumers are growing environmentally conscious, businesses are leveraging ways to showcase their sustainability efforts in their products by obtaining certifications and putting these labels in product packages. As certifications are rigorous and hard to obtain, obtaining certifications is a means to spearhead the sustainability momentum. However, academic research in certification, especially with non-food products made from plants, is limited. Hence, this dissertation study focuses on the influence of certification labels in consumers’ purchasing behaviors by specifically looking at consumers’ purchase intentions and willingness to pay higher prices for plant-based non-food products with certification labels. In addition, this dissertation study also explores the mediating role of perceived efficacy and perceived eco-friendliness on consumers’ purchase intentions and willingness to pay higher prices. Moreover, subsequent study will also examine the impact of informative certification labels.Across three experimental scenarios using household products such as multipurpose cleaners and laundry detergents, it was found that consumers show higher purchase intentions and greater willingness to pay higher prices for products with certification labels compared to products without certification labels. Similarly, it was found that consumers are willing to pay higher prices for plant-based products compared to non-plant-based products. The mediating relationship of perceived efficacy is observed with its effect being the greatest for plant-based and certified products compared to not-certified products whether it is plant-based or not. With regards to perceived eco friendliness, the research showed that consumers perceive plant-based and certified products as more eco-friendly than non-plant-based products despite their certification status leading to greater purchase intentions and willingness to pay higher prices. In study 3, the role of informative certification labels was investigated. Specifically, it was found that plant-based and certified products with informative certification labels (compared to plant-based and certified products without informative certification labels) demonstrated higher perceived efficacy leading to purchase intentions and willingness to pay higher prices. The findings from this dissertation benefit both academic marketing researchers and marketing managers. Manufacturers of plant-based household products can leverage the advantages of certification labels as a competitive edge and be able to remove doubts and confusions that consumers have towards plant-based non-food products by obtaining certifications.

All ships regulated by SOLAS were required to have ECDIS onboard by 1st of July 2018, these new requirements pose a challenge in competence for the maritime industry. Today approximately 80% of accidents at sea are caused by the human factor. This qualitative study focuses on the operators experiences and the user-friendliness of ECDIS on the bridge. The results of the study indicates that knowledge gaps regarding ECDIS exists varying between officers and that improvement of the education can be done as well as revising the requirements for certification of ECDIS. The study is based on the graduating class of master mariners of 2019 in Kalmar and active officers’ perspective and opinions on user-friendliness, education, competency and safety regarding ECDIS. The study also entails maritime accidents and highlights the dangers of lack of knowledge and how the faulty use of ECDIS can lead to unnecessary accidents.

Customer Satisfaction - An Investigation of Trivselhus

Ivarsson, Linus, Nilsson, Alexander, Rimfält, Torbjörn January 2010 (has links)
Purpose: This thesis investigates and analyzes the customer satisfaction over a 10-year time period among Trivselhus customers. Background: More companies in the building sector are starting to realize the importance of using cus-tomer satisfaction as a tool to enhance their competitive advantage. Customer satisfaction brings several positive aspects to a company, which can contribute to a successful business. It is crucial to fulfill customers‟ wants and needs in order to obtain customer satisfaction. Building a house is one of the largest investment people make in life, with important deci-sions that can affect their current way of living. Customer satisfaction is, therefore, crucial for a company like Trivselhus, where it is essential to keep their customers satisfied by of-fering the right products that fulfill their expectations. Another increasingly important aspect in people‟s lives today is the environment. This has now come to affect the house building industries as they have to fulfill customer expecta-tions regarding energy efficiency and environmental friendliness. Method: To answer the purpose, primary data have been collected by conducting a telephone sur-vey. The survey was made randomly among Trivselhus customers. From the different theo-ries, important categories that affect customer satisfaction were found. Aspects from all these categories were included in the questionnaire to explain customer satisfaction. The analysis is based on statistical data generated from the survey. Central tendency values and regression analysis makes it possible to explain which variables affect customer satisfaction among Trivselhus customers. Conclusion: The outcome of the research signifies, that customer satisfaction among Trivselhus cus-tomers has not changed during all the years covered in this research. There are several va-riables affecting customer satisfaction. These variables are included in different categories; Complaints, Expectations, Service Quality, Energy, Product Quality, and Image. Further-more, there is not enough evidence to prove that energy efficiency and environmental friendliness affect customer satisfaction geographically.
