Rodina a škola jako socializační činitelé reprodukující genderové stereotypy v souvislosti s genderovou segregací na trhu práce / Family and school as the agents of socialization reproducing gender stereotypes in connection with gender segregation at the labour market

Hokeová, Lucie January 2013 (has links)
In the diploma thesis we ask the question whether the important agents of socialization family and school reproduce gender stereotypes which associate women with the role of a carer about family and household and men with the role of a breadwinner and with the orientation to the field of technology. We focus on whether family and school reproduce these stereotypes in connection with the definition of a career and in relation to horizontal and vertical segregation at the labour market. The reproduction of gender stereotypes viewing women as carer about family and household and men as breadwinners and the reproduction of gender stereotype connecting rather men than women with technical orientation are conjoined with gender scheme theory of Sandra Bem and with Pierre Bourdieu's concept of habitus. The diploma thesis aims at the Czech society, mainly in the period from 2001 to 2011. To answer the question we ask in the diploma thesis we draw on literature, on quantitative and qualitative research dealing with the themes we are concerned with, on statistics of Czech Statistical Office, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, Institute for Information on Education, and on selected data from international longitudinal research International Social Survey Programme...

Rovnost z hlediska věku a genderu (Česko, Dánsko, Francie, Polsko) / Equality: age and gender (Czechia, Denmark, France, Poland)

Černá, Tereza January 2019 (has links)
Equality: Age and gender Abstract Diploma thesis addresses age and gender inequalities in Czechia, Denmark, France and Poland, based on Special Eurobarometer 437 and Special Eurobarometer 465. It introduces basic terms connected with inequality in society as well as terms related to gender and age discrimination. The analytical part is focused on different perceptions of age and gender inequality by respondents from four selected countries. The questions are also analysed on base on the respondent's gender and their age group, either 25-34, or 55-64 years. The conclusion of the conducted survey data analysis is, that society in Czechia and Poland inclines towards gender-based prejudices and stereotypes more, than society in Denmark and France, which may be a consequence of stronger emphasis on gender equality in Western European countries. Age discrimination is more often noticed by Czech and French respondents, but it is clear, that respondents from all four countries perceive ageism as very serious and do not see adopted anti- discrimination measures as sufficient. Key words: discrimination, inequality, stereotypes, ageing, ageism, age discrimination, gender discrimination, Czechia, Denmark, France, Poland

Aspekty genderu v románu Eva Carry van Bruggenové / Gender Aspects in the Novel Eva by Carry van Bruggen

Jankovská, Marie January 2016 (has links)
in English This thesis focuses on the construct of gender in the modernist novel Eva by the Dutch authoress Carry van Bruggen in relation to the individual human subject. The goal of this thesis is to analyse how is gender constructed in the book and how this construct influences the psychic development and decision making of the main character, a woman named Eva. The answer to the main research question What role does the construct of gender play in the life of the main character of the novel Eva? was reached with the help of the discourse analysis, namely the post-structuralist discourse analysis using the deconstructive reading. The thesis is at the same time theoretically anchored in the post-structuralist feminist literary criticism. The theoretical part therefore draws on the ideas of Jacques Derrida, Michel Foucault, Judith Baxter and Judith Butler. As an inspiration for the discourse analysis itself served the discourse analysis dealing with the gender identity that was carried out by Kateřina Zábrodská in 2009. The first step in the analysis stage was to identify the relevant passages of the novel that inform what does it mean to be a man or a woman. The comments on these passages focus on the individual claims about gender, they formulate what kind of duties and limits these discourses...

Povědomí o genderu a jeho reprezentace v dílech Virginie Woolfové z pohledu současného feminismu a genderové teorie / Gender Consciousness and Representation in Virginia Woolf's Writing in Light of Contemporary Feminism and Gender Theory

Hrbková, Martina January 2017 (has links)
The aim of the thesis is to analyse Virginia Woolf's novels and non-fiction in light of several recent trends in feminism and gender theory relevant to her work. The thesis considers Woolf's label of a feminist writer from a contemporary perspective. It examines a variety of ways in which her writing poses a challenge to patriarchal values regarding the treatment and representation of women. Woolf's position regarding gender issues, women and feminism is not monolithic or unified which must be accounted for. At points, some of her stances can be seen as problematic from a present-day feminist perspective. At the same time, in her work she raises concerns which have been relevant for and expanded by proponents of contemporary feminism and gender theory. The thesis focuses on three areas regarding gender awareness and representation in Woolf's work. They are her narrative style, the sociopolitical context of her work and the questioning of gender categories. Woolf's narrative style and strategies are viewed in light of écriture féminine as conceptualised by Hélène Cixous. Through her manner of writing Woolf aimed to disrupt established ways of narrating women's experience. Her concept of the woman's sentence can be seen as foreshadowing écriture féminine. Apart from her style, Woolf's development as a...

Analýza vlivu vzdělání na výši mzdy v České republice / Analysis of education influence on the wage level in Czech Republic

Tománková, Martina January 2015 (has links)
The main objective of this thesis is to find out if and how education influence wage. Logical consideration and existing studies imply that there is a positive correlation in between achieved education and individual´s wage level. The studies, however, vary in size of influence and in the Czech Republic there are very few studies that deal with this topic. This master thesis is based on its own survey from which was obtained a total of 521 responses. The survey was conducted during the period of March to May 2015. Data were analysed and interval regression demonstrated positive correlation between achieved education and wage level. When reaching a bachelor´s degree, an individual´s wage increase on average by 8 % compared to individuals with secondary education with graduation. If an individual reaches master degree, his wage increases on average by 21.9 % compared to the wage of individual who achieved the secondary education with graduation. The analysis has also proven the existence of gender pay gap. According to the results, women in Czech Republic have lower wages by 21.3 % compared to men´s. The study also discusses the achievement of higher education for individuals older than 26 years. Regression analysis showed that obtaining bachelor education for this group has higher yield (14.4 %) than in the analysis of the whole data set. Conversely, obtaining master degree has for this group lower profitability (17.3 %). Part of this thesis was also to calculate the return on investment in higher education. Using the method of internal rate of return, it was found out that the return on investment is 8.3 %.

Sluníčkové postavy: reprezentace ženství a mužství v časopise Sluníčko / Characters of Sluníčko: representation of femininity and masculinity in Sluníčko magazine

Frolíková, Lenka January 2016 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with representations of femininity and masculinity in Sluníčko magazine. These representations are examined through analysis of men, women, boys, girls and animal characters. The theoretical part defines gender order of contemporary society and its main characteristic. Then usual gender stereotypes in physical appearance, gender roles, interests and characteristics are defined. The diploma thesis then focuses attention to the gender socialization and concept of representations, which are defined as an instrument of power that helps to maintain androcentric order of society. Also the media are considered as significant and important tool of normalization and socialization. Another dimension of the thesis is mapping the "progress" of representations or comparing the two editions - edition n. 8 (published in 174/75) and edition n. 48 (published in 2015). In research the qualitative media analysis is used. It is focused on texts and picture illustrations of femininity and masculinity, therefore on characters. These characters are analysed through four categories - Physical appearance, Gender roles, Activities and interests, Characteristics, while the central categories are "Vacant" femininity and Counterfactuality, which are present throughout the content of both editions. Key...

Interference v genderové konceptualizaci neživých referentů u maďarských bilingvistů / Interferences in the gender conceptualization of inanimate referents in bilingual Hungarian speakers

Červenková, Michaela January 2019 (has links)
This work deals with possible interferences in gender conceptualization of inanimate objects in bilingual speakers of Hungarian and Slovakian language. It closely pursues the grammatical category of gender (which is present in one of the examined languages, in Slovakian, and absent in the other one - Hungarian). The aim of the performed experiment, in which two groups of speakers participated (one was the previously mentioned group of bilingual speakers of Hungarian and Slovakian, and the second one was a control group of Hungarian monolingual speakers) was to verify if the presence of grammatical gender in one of the two languages, spoken by the bilingual group of speakers, will affect their conceptualization of gender of the inanimate referents. Another aspiration was to find out if bilingual speakers, as well as the monolingual speakers of Hungarian had accordant responses to some of the inanimate objects, and also if there was a congruence in the responses between the two participating groups of speakers. A secondary aim of this experiment was to examine a phenomenon, which appeared in the previous conducted research (Červenková, 2017), which was the effort of the respondents to make the first phoneme of their response identical with the first phoneme of the name of particular object in...

Dilema "mateřské" protichůdné strategie a vnímání mateřství u současných českých matek / The Dilemma of Maternity Leave: Competing Strategies and Perceptions of Motherhood Among Contemporary Czech Mothers

Hager, Kateřina January 2011 (has links)
This work provides an ethnography of maternity leave in the Czech Republic, analyzing the experiences, attitudes and reflections on motherhood among 14 Czech mothers living in Prague. Maternity leave in the Czech Republic distinguishes itself from that in many other western countries by virtue of its long-term nature - typically 3 to 4 years per child. Ultimately, this model for long-term home care, institutionally structured and culturally naturalized, has an essential impact on the position of woman in the family and in the society at large. Today, Czech mothers find themselves the default caretakers in the home but lacking the extended family support and networks accessed in the past, particularly acute in the context of culturally negative attitudes toward hired help and nurseries in the Czech Republic. Czech mothers also find themselves pinned between two ideologies - one stressing the importance of maternal care for the well-being of the child and another establishing the low status of staying home to raise a child in the context of the need for self-realization in a career. This ethnography teases out the sometimes reinforcing but often conflicting notions of what it is to be a mother through analyzing the biographical narratives of three identified groups of Czech women: mothers who have...
