A Tunable Snapshot Imaging SpectrometerTebow, Christopher January 2005 (has links)
A tunable snapshot imaging spectrometer has been demonstrated. A liquid crystal spatial light modulator (LC SLM) has been integrated into a computed tomographic imaging spectrometer (CTIS) to achieve tunability. The LC SLM allows for rapid, programmable, and non-mechanical alteration of its phase profile by the application of appropriate voltages to its transparent electrodes. The goal of this dissertation is twofold: (1) to integrate a liquid crystal spatial light modulator into a CTIS instrument and characterize its performance as a tunable CTIS disperser, and (2) to implement tunability by analyzing different CTIS configurations. The theoretical model of CTIS operation, calibration, reconstruction, and disperser design are covered in detail. The cross talk of the LC SLM forces the use of a feedback design algorithm rather than designing the desired phase profile a priori in the computer. The modifications to the current polychromatic linear inversion technique for use with the LC SLM in feedback are presented. The result of the modifications is the successful integration of a reprogrammable (i.e. tunable) disperser for the CTIS instrument. The implementation of tunability is explored by analyzing the spectral resolution of a reconstructed point source for different disperser configurations. A method for experimentally determining the CTIS spectral resolution is presented.

How a fashion company can create higher brand equity - the importance of using social mediaSöderberg, Evelina, Wissinger, Amanda January 2014 (has links)
Purpose - With the social media's emergence in recent times, the main purpose of this study is to generate knowledge about social media communication’s impact on consumer-based brand equity, in terms of firm-created and user-generated social media communication. In order to make this possible, knowledge about customer’s perception about a specific brand is required. Furthermore, we are interested in explaining issues concerning how fashion companies can efficiently use social media, and the study’s intention is also to present recommendations of how companies can use social media as a marketing communication tool. Theory and hypothesis – This chapter deals with theory about consumer-based brand equity, where the different components of the model are presented. Also theory about social media, different social media applications and a social media strategy are described. Finally, firm- created and user-generated social media communications impact on brand equity are discussed, which leads to the study’s hypotheses. Methodology – The study has a triangulation consisting of both a qualitative and a quantitative part and has essentially a deductive approach. The study interviewed one expert in the fashion industry and one expert in the area of social media. An interview with the analysed company’s marketing manager was also made. The quantitative study was made on 624 respondents, which were all members of the company’s customer club. 97 of these 624 respondents were investigated in order to observe the impact of firm-created and user- generated social media communication on brand equity. Empirical findings and results – The findings in the study indicate that firm-created social media communication positively impact brand equity, while user-generated did not show to be significant. In this study it was shown that the majority of the respondents use social media, especially Facebook, and the content that most valuable was access to discounts and promotions as well as information about the brand and its products. Conclusion - Our study confirms the importance for companies to use social media as a marketing tool and it should be in all managers’ interest to make use of this channel. Also the importance of having high brand equity is highlighted and how the customer’s perceptions about a brand can be used as guidelines in order to increase brand equity.

I do it, you do it, we do it. Just do it.Bergelt, Sven 13 May 2014 (has links) (PDF)

Mobile cartography makes use of mobile internet and the civil utilisation of the GPS signal. The resulting mobility of the user as well as technical restrictions of mobile devices (such as low processor performance, small display sizes and limited battery life) has to be taken into account in the form of an adaption of mobile maps. The adaption is carried out with regard to the current need for information which can be derived from the context of the user (i.e. spatial-temporal situation, interests, task, circumstances, aims, needs etc).
Another aspect of mobile cartography is user generated content. The permanent availability of mobile internet as well as the uncomplicated way of location determination makes it easy for amateur users to gather and publish own data. So the cartographer backs out and provides expert knowledge in the form of base maps, software and interaction techniques that can be used by the map user as an user interface for integrating own data. Thereby traditional cartographic communication models require a fundamental further development because a strict separation into map maker and map user can not be made anymore. The diploma thesis introduces a derived cartographic communication model for mobile interactive maps.
An application field of mobile cartography are mobile map applications in tourism. These touristic applications are an up-to-date kind of travelling service in the century of mobile technology and information. In the context of this diploma thesis several existing touristic applications for smartphones for were examined and an own mobile application for hiking in Saxon Switzerland was conceived and implemented prototypically. This application suggests hiking trips, provides various information as well as maps and is based on a hiking calendar that is worked out annually by cartography students of Dresden University of Technology.

Algebraické podstruktury v Cm / Algebraic Substructures in CmKala, Vítězslav January 2013 (has links)
Title: Algebraic Substructures in ℂ Author: Vítězslav Kala Department: Department of Algebra Supervisor: Prof. RNDr. Tomáš Kepka, DrSc., Department of Algebra Abstract: We study the structure of finitely generated semirings, parasemifields and other algebraic structures, developing and applying tools based on the geom- etry of algebraic substructures of the Euclidean space ℂ . To a parasemifield which is finitely generated as a semiring we attach a certain subsemigroup of the semigroup ℕ0 (defined using elements such that + = for some ∈ and ∈ ℕ). Algebraic and geometric properties of carry important structural information about ; we use them to show that if a parasemifield is 2-generated as a semiring, then it is additively idempotent. We also provide a ring-theoretic reformulation of this conjecture in the case of -generated semirings. We also classify all additively idempotent parasemifields which are finitely gen- erated as semirings by using the fact that they correspond to certain finitely generated unital lattice ordered groups. Busaniche, Cabrer, and Mundici [4] re- cently classified these using the combinatorial and geometric notion of a stellar sequence which is a sequences of certain simplicial complexes in [0, 1] . We use their results to prove that each such parasemifield is a finite product of...

Numerical simulations of flames employing detailed kinetic mechanisms are computationally demanding problems. For this reason, reduced mechanisms and techniques of chemical kinetic reduction have been developed aiming better computational efficiency. Global mechanisms formed by few steps are particularly popular due to the simplicity of programing them in available codes. Thus, the objective of the present dissertation is to evaluate simplified chemical kinetics models in 1D and 2D numerical simulations of methane diluted with carbon dioxide laminar flames. Global mechanisms formed by 1, 2 and 4-steps are evaluated in comparison with the detailed mechanism GRI-Mech 3.0 in one-dimensional simulations of counterflow diffusive flames. The global mechanism with best performance is then used in two-dimensional simulations of diffusive jet flames for a comparison with the chemical reduction technique FGM. It was observed that a 4-step mechanism presented good results for temperature and major chemical species for both one and two-dimensional simulations. However, minor species like CO and H2 are not well reproduced. Phenomena such as stabilization position and oxygen penetration in the jet flame base are also not captured when the global mechanism is used. On the other hand, the technique Flamelet- Generated Manifold demonstrated to predict those phenomena and resulted, additionally, in an expressive computational gain.

The numerical simulation of turbulent flames is still a challenge for today's computational fluid dynamics practices. Understanding that the most complete and realistic numerical approaches available today may be computationally prohibitive, several models have been developed in order to reproduce the phenomena involved in combustion in a simplified, but still physically consistent, way. Therefore, this work is dedicated to compare different models for turbulence closure based on the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations and models for simplification of the chemical kinetics based on the flamelet concept, with and without thermal radiation modeling through the weighted-sum-of-gray-gases model. Thus, in the first part of the current work six turbulence models are employed to solve a turbulent nonreactive isothermal flow, a propane jet surrounded by a parallel stream of air. The models are compared through their effectiveness in predicting the mean values of longitudinal and transversal velocities, propane mass fraction and mixture density. The models are the Standard k- (employed in its original version and with two modifications according to proposals found in the literature), the Realizable k- , the Standard k- and the Shear-Stress Transport k- . One of the best performing models is then used to simulate a turbulent nonpremixed flame of methane/hydrogen/nitrogen surrounded by a low-velocity air coflow, in which are compared the models to reduce the chemical kinetics based on the flamelets concept, the Steady Laminar Diffusion Flamelet (SLDF) and the Flamelet-Generated Manifold (FGM), being the numerical results compared to the experimental data for the mean values of longitudinal velocity, mixture fraction, temperature and species mass fractions. Among the six turbulence models evaluated, it is observed that the two adjusted versions of the Standard k- and the Standard k- showed better agreement with the experimental measurements than the other models. In the current study it is also evaluated the consistency of the reported experimental data and a discrepancy is identified, which, as verified, does not compromise the models comparison here proposed. In the solution of the reactive flow, the SLDF model showed results very close to the experimental results (except for NO), being further enhanced with the inclusion of the thermal radiation modeling, especially for regions far from fuel nozzle, after the peak of temperature of the flame. The FGM model, however, showed results far below the expected, especially for the mass fractions of chemical species, even using meshes with much higher refinement level and testing of various species combinations for the reaction progress variable. The inclusion of the radiation modeling did not brought noticeable benefits. All the numerical simulations were performed employing the ANSYS Fluent version 15.0.0 commercial code.

Quanto maior a depleção corporal total, pior a sobrevida do paciente (p=0,014). / Introduction: Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world, and it is today the most lethal of the neoplastic diseases. Patients with lung cancer show high prevalence of malnutrition, the latter being related to worsening of the prognosis. Malnutrition occurs in 60% of the patients at the moment of diagnosis, leading to a bad prognosis, regardless of the tumor stage. Nutritional evaluation of patients with cancer should be conducted in the light of a therapeutic proposal, even if it’s palliative. In this way, the validated method Scored Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA), adapted by Ottery et al for oncologic patients from the questionnaire of Subjective Global Assessment, helps to precociously identify patients that are in nutritional risk. Nutrition is fundamental in these patients with advanced disease for it supplies the adequate amount of nutrients, performs an important psychological, spiritual and cultural role, besides helping to build a sense of autonomy and well-being. Objective: to relate Functional Capacity through the Karnofsky Index and the nutritional state, signs and symptoms evaluated by the subjective method (PG-SGA), to the survival of patients with metastatic pulmonary neoplasia. Patients and methods: It’s a transversal study, constituted by 51 patients, both genders, carriers of pulmonary neoplasia with metastatic disease on stages IIIb and IV, both in and outpatients at Santa Rita Hospital, Complexo Hospitalar Santa Casa de Porto Alegre. The survival of the patients in the study was assessed at the end of the study, through review of the chart and phone contact with the patient’s keeper. Results: The average age is 61.84 (± 10.83 varying between 40 and 82), being 34 (66.7%) male and 17 (33.3%) female. The median of survival is 186 days (CI 95%; 158.8; 213.2). The inpatients have a significantly inferior survival (median=145 days; CI 95%=135 – 155) than the outpatients (median=221 days; CI 95%=199 – 243). Patients on stage IV have a significantly inferior survival (median=176 days; CI 95%=127 - 225) than patients on stage IIIb (median=221; CI 95%= 147 - 295). Patients with hepatic metastasis have a significantly inferior survival (median=115 days; CI 95%=74 - 155) than patients without hepatic metastasis (median=199 days; CI 95%=174 - 224). Patients with pleural metastasis have a significantly superior survival (median=386 days; CI 95%=129 – 643) than patients without pleural metastasis (median=174; CI 95%=133 – 214). There was no meaningful statistical difference between survival curves of different nutritional stages (log rank test; p=0,652). Bedridden patients have a significantly inferior survival (median=115 days; CI 95%=87 – 143) than patients with normal physical capacity (median=255 days; CI 95%=202 – 308). The higher the total body depletion, the lower the patient survival (p=0.014). The increase of 1 point in this item of the PG-SGA (IDR=1.70; CI 95%=1.12 – 2.59) may increase risk of death, averagely, by 70%. Karnofsky index was also significantly associated with survival (p=0.016), seeing that for an increase of 10% in the performance scale the risk of death decreased in 23% (IDR=0.77; CI 95%=0.76 – 0.79). The most prevalent symptoms that affect nourishment among the patients were lack of appetite (66.7%), depression (51%) and pain (39.2%) and the least mentioned were mouth pain and vomit (5.9%). Factors that remain statistically associated with death after the adjust by the multivariate analysis by regression of Cox were hepatic metastasis and hospital internment as risk factors for death, and pleural metastasis and better Karnofsky index as protective factors. Conclusion: The survival of eutrophic patients was mildly superior to that of patients in nutritional risk and to that of severely malnourished patients. The higher the total body depletion and the worse the Karnofsky index, the higher the risk of death. No significant statistical association was found between Hemogram, Serum Albumin, and Total Lymphocyte Count (TLC) with the nutritional status of the population in study and survival.
