Spatial Data Explorer: Providing Discovery and Access to Geospatial Data at the University of ArizonaKollen, Christine 25 June 2016 (has links)
Presented at the 2016 American Libraries Association Annual Conference / The University of Arizona (UA) Libraries has been providing GIS services and access to geospatial data since the 1990's, first by providing access to US Federal Depository Program geospatial data on CD-ROMs and DVDs, later through the Arizona Electronic Atlas and more recently the UA Institutional Repository (UAiR) and the UA Campus Repository. Focus groups with faculty and staff confirmed our view that neither the UAiR nor the Campus Repository meet the needs of the UA's GIS community. To address their needs, the UA Libraries investigated various solutions for developing a geospatial data portal that would facilitate discovery, access, sharing, and retrieval of distributed geospatial data resources and consolidate several repositories at the University into one accessible and modern interface. An inventory was completed, interviews were conducted with relevant campus stakeholders and geospatial data portal managers at various academic libraries, and various options were investigated. Based on several factors, the UA decided to implement Open Geoportal (http://www.opengeoportal.org), a collaboratively developed, open source, federated web application for discovering, previewing, and retrieving geospatial data from multiple repositories. The UA Libraries released the resulting geospatial data portal, Spatial Data Explorer (SDE), in the fall 2015. In anticipation of the release, a survey was conducted in spring 2015 of faculty, staff, and students to gauge interest in contributing data to the SDE. The poster will include why we decided to implement Open Geoportal, screen shots showing the SDE interface and functionality, results of the survey and follow-up interviews with potential contributors, and use statistics.

Proposal of processing and database modeling of spatial data infrastructure -SDI: macrobenthos study case for coastal zone of Santos metropolitan region.Carvalho, Gabriel Niero de 12 August 2013 (has links)
Coastal zones are complex areas that include marine and terrestrial environments. Besides its huge environmental importance, they also attract humans because they provide food, recreation, business, transportation, among others. Some difficulties to manage these areas are related with their complexity, diversity of interests and the absence of standardization to collect and share data to scientific community, public agencies, among others. The use of geo-technologies can be used in the organization, standardization and sharing of this information through Atlas Web and assists planning and decision making issues because it aggregates different files from distinct sources. The construction of a spatial database integrating the environmental business, to be used on Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) is illustrated by a bioindicator, Macrobenthos, that indicates the quality of the sediments. This research shows the required steps to build Macrobenthos spatial database based on Santos Metropolitan Region as a reference. Besides, it tries to illustrate the problems related to organize non standardized data. It can be concluded, when working with environmental data, that the structuring of knowledge in a conceptual model is essential for their subsequent integration into the SDI. During the modeling process it can be noticed that methodological issues related to the collection process may obstruct or make impracticable the data integration from different studies of the same area. The development of a database model and its subsequent publication in a Geoportal can be used as a reference for further research with similar goals.

Vizualizace historického vývoje katastrální mapy / Visualizations history of changes in cadastral mapKlecanda, Vojtěch January 2015 (has links)
The goal of this master thesis is to suggest a methodology for a visualization history of changes in cadastral maps. The suggested methodology takes into account a selection of original historical and contemporary data, processing workflow and follow-up visualization using existing open source web technologies. The greatest contribution of this thesis is in the design of the spatio-temporal database, because currently there does not exist workable editor similar to it, which could be used for creating such data. The suggested procedure is based on database updating method of ISKN database utilizing amendment records. However this method is significantly simplified with the use of PostgreSQL/PostGIS geospatial functions. The available literature and other informational sources to the topic are overviewed in the first part of the master thesis. The term "spatio-temporal data" is thoroughly defined and also the ways of integrating temporal features into spatial data, methods of visualization of spatio-temporal data and recent state of their implementations into desktop platforms and web applications are noted. Furthermore historical and current data sources and their usability for the master thesis are described. The full methodology of pre-processing and processing of data and a subsequent visualization using...

[EN] This thesis deals with property management in the Cadastre and Property Registry in Spain and Colombia; through the technical tools used by professionals who delimit the property on the land. From a practical point of view, the study began in Spain with the coordination between the Cadastre and the Registry, applying law 13/2015 with a practical case, right at the moment it was approved. To test the law, the delimitation of a property was carried out with its alternative graphic representation, and it was taken to a notary office. It was found that this route was not yet viable, and the cadastral cartography was updated through the traditional Cadastre channel.
Subsequently, in Colombia an initiative to implement the ISO19152-LADM standard has been studied, whose application profile in Colombia has been called LADM-COL. For the application of the profile, the Colombian government has carried out a development that has been in constant change during the time of research of this thesis, and that includes a plugin for QGIS, called LADM-COL. This plugin allows you to enter the data of a Colombian property delimitation (farm in Spain, property in Colombia) according to the LADM-COL model in a local database, which is then exported to be included in another global and official database. It is planned that the data from this database will be published in a geoportal, which at the time of development of this thesis is not yet available.
This thesis carries out a study of the work methodology designed to capture data in the LADM-COL model in Colombia, using the QGIS LADM-COL plugin. To carry out the tests, the association of surveyors called the Colombian Chamber of Topography has been contacted, establishing a collaboration, so that this thesis will be used to promote the capture of data on topographic delimitations according to the LADM-COL model. The creation of a viewer-geoportal that allows viewing and consulting the geographical and alphanumeric information of the work carried out according to the model has been proposed, together with the association of the Colombian Chamber of Topography. To do this, the database with the LADM-COL model would be installed in the cloud, allowing its connection directly with QGIS. Users would import their jobs into the cloud and display them in the geoportal. Users, previously identified, will be able to access the information from the geoportal, to consult the information. The objective of the geoportal is to be able to show the data captured, while the official geoportal is not available, and to be able to assess the usefulness of this geoportal in aspects such as: if it facilitates the regularization of lands, if it facilitates the compression of regulation work, if it adds security, or, on the contrary, it represents an extra task that is not very useful.
The main conclusion of this work is that, despite the technical difficulties in agreeing on data models, and the complications of the design and development of tools for the management of cadastral and registry information (databases, geoportals, topological checks and themes, editing and exchange tools, etc.), these tools are adequately developed, and despite this their use is not implemented. The reasons that have been detected are the lack of information on the part of the owners, and the lack of information and training on the part of technicians and jurists on a topic, that of the delimitation of property, which requires that all parties involved know a little all parts of the property delimitation process, rights, registration, legislation, administrative procedures, and even the data model with which you are working. / Velilla Torres, JM.
