Improvement of Work Process in a Global Verification Team : A case study at VSM

Yuan, Wenjing January 2016 (has links)
With increasing demands from customers, companies face the challenges of shortening the new product development (NPD) period, reducing development cost and increasing development efficiency. High quality and efficiency of NPD can increase the chance for companies to be competitive on the market. Forming up cross-functional teams becomes a popular way of maximizing the knowledge then increase the development quality and efficiency. However, it is challenging to integrate the resources from different functions and even more challenging when the resources are from different countries. To overcome the integration challenges can increase the efficiency of NPD projects therefore finally win global market shares. This study’s purpose is to identify and analyze integration challenges experienced by a verification team involved in global NPD and to suggest how those challenges can be managed by answering two research questions: 1) What are the integration challenges with the current work process encountered by the global verification team? 2) How can the integration challenges be met in the improved work process? The case study is used as the research method in order to get deep insight of the challenges that a global verification team faces. VSM Group AB, an international leading sewing company is selected as the case company. The case team, a global verification team locates both in Sweden and China, plays the role of verification work within NPD process. The case team verifies the design and new products in the process. Through interviews, observation and literature reviews, the challenges in this global verification team are identified. It is found that the case team needs to overcome language barriers, culture difference, task planning and formalization and standardization on work performance during integration. Based on the investigations, a set of solutions are proposed in the end to meet the challenges. These solutions are an improved work process, work performance system, training program and uniformed documentation. These proposals are inspired by the integration mechanisms such as formalization and standardization, special reports etc and then fit them into the case team context. By simulation and evaluation the solutions within the global verification team, the feedback on the proposals helped for improvement. This case study at VSM is an empirical example of implementation of integration mechanisms into a real life context.

Accelerating from Zero to Global Hero : A Multiple-Case Study of Accelerators promoting Participants to become Born Globals

Eberhardt, Björn, Hörst, Fabian January 2017 (has links)
In recent years, accelerators have gained increasingly attention due to their numerical growth, geographic dispersion, and growing numbers of participants they have worked with. Uber, Airbnb, Dropbox or Reddit – they have not only been participants of accelerators, but they can also be identified as ‘Born Globals’ according to the definition used throughout this thesis. Considering this fact and the lack of research in theory on the interrelation of both phenomena, accelerators and Born Global, it is interesting to dig deeper into the impact accelerators have on their respective participants’ global development. For this purpose, the authors conducted a multiple-case study to find answers to the question of what elements of accelerators promote participants to become Born Globals. This multiple-case study included semi-structured interviews with managers of four different cases of accelerators and three respective former participants as well as complementarily used secondary data in terms of company documents. Drawing from empirical evidence, it was found that the major elements of the examined accelerators fostering the participants’ development towards Born Globals can be summarized into five major categories: ’Application Process’, ’Interpersonal Connections’, ’Product & Coaching Methodologies’, ’Education’, and ‘Startup Community & Entrepreneurial Ecosystem’.

Identifying High-Potential Work Areas in Engineering for Global Development: Linking Industry Sectors to the Human Development Index

Smith, Daniel Oliver 05 June 2020 (has links)
Those working in Engineering for Global Development seek to improve the conditions in developing countries. A common metric for understanding the development state of a given country is the Human Development Index (HDI), which focuses on three dimensions: health, education, and income. An engineer’s expertise does not always align with any of those dimensions directly, while they still hope to perform impactful work for human development. To discover other areas of expertise that are highly associated with the HDI, correlations and variable selection were performed between all World Development Indicators and the HDI. The resultant associations are presented according to industry sector for a straightforward connection to engineering expertise. The associated areas of expertise can be used during opportunity development as surrogates for focusing on the HDI dimensions themselves. The data analysis shows that work related to "Trade, Transportation, and Utilities", such as electricity distribution, and exports or imports, "Natural Resources and Mining", such as energy resources, agriculture or access to clean water, and "Manufacturing", in general, are most commonly associated with improvements in the HDI in developing countries. Also, because the associations were discovered at country-level, they direct where geographically particular areas of expertise have been historically associated with improving HDI.

Food Television and the processes of globalization

Petkova, Preslava January 2020 (has links)
This paper presents the initiative to research on Food Television and the processes ofglobalization. The research gap in the selected subject area is identified after an in-depthliterature review and watching the culinary documentary ‘Ugly Delicious’. According toscholars globalization processes are influenced by the use of Media, as different channelsare transmitting values shared by globalization. Over the years, globalization has developedsub-process such as cultural globalization, a term which refers to the merge of cultures andthe formation of a global one. The identified research gap is to translate how globalizationhas been communicated in a culinary documentary. The title of the research is, therefore“Food Television and the processes of globalization: How does ‘Ugly Delicious’ userepresentations to portray cultural globalization?”, as it addresses the most pertinentresearch gap. Using visual data, such as video, requires a qualitative approach in which thecontent can be coded and later linked to theoretical knowledge. The role of the researcheris to find examples or patterns that represent cultural globalization within the frame of thetwo seasons of the documentary. The method which shapes this qualitative research is theGrounded Theory approach. A coding sheet will be generated to present the process andthe logic of generating codes.

Hodnocení implementace cílů Národní strategie globálního rozvojového vzdělávání v oblasti českého základního školství / Evaluation of implementation of National Strategy of global development education in Czech primary education

Čápová, Iva January 2014 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with the issue of Global Development Education and the process of the implementation of National Strategy for Global Development Education in Czech primary schools. In 2011, the National Strategy for Global Development Education came into force, thereby Czech Republic adopted the principles and objectives of Global Development Education. Goals that are defined in the document are supposed to be implemented in the next five years. However, as the thesis shows the implementation is a complex process that depends on a wide range of aspects. The author has attempted to identify factors that influence the success of the implementation process. In addition, the thesis tried to answer the question of whether the implementation of the goals of the strategy thrive or fail, and explain why this is happening. With the use of ongoing evaluation practical recommendations to improve the process of implementation of the National Strategy for Global Development Education was proposed. It was pointed out that the causes of imperfect implementation can be as unfavorable socio-economic conditions, as well as poorly defined policy objectives, lack of systemic support from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the lack of cooperation between the actors involved or inadequate use of...

Processo de descentralização do desenvolvimento de novos produtos: uma análise em uma empresa do setor de veículos comerciais. / Decentralization process of the new product development: an analysis at a company of the commercial vehicles sector.

Segismundo, André 23 September 2009 (has links)
In recent decades the development of new products has become the industrial competitiveness focus and, it is in this environment, that the current literature identifies several cases which indicate a strong trend of product development decentralization in a global sphere. Thus, this study intent to, through a single case study, analyzes the decentralization process of new products global development (PGD) used by a company from the automotive industry acting at the commercial vehicles sector. The study focuses on the research of the factors that encourage the decentralization of PGD and its causes, based on existing theory. As main conclusions, it is possible to mention that the commercial vehicles sector reacts similarly to other sectors such as telecommunications, in which factors such as interest in the local market and historical aspects of evolution of the Brazilian subsidiary have more relevance than the low cost and local skills in product development, unlike the current literature on this topic. It was also identified, in this case, that the modular product influences the PGD decentralization process depending on its structure, unlike identified by previous studies. Finally, the author developed a proposal which describes the relation between the PGD type of structure and the use (or not) of modular design.

Educação-especial entre o clínico e o escolar : em busca da terceira margem

Brito, Mariana Pires January 2015 (has links)
Given the enigma represented by the students included, especially those with severe psychological problems, or with Global Development Disorders, the knowledge of the teachers seems to be insufficient. In the absence of pedagogical border, clinical discourse is called to do margin in the processes of teaching and learning, often not legitimating the school as potent and powerful space, and indication of re-educational practices. What reasons lead school not to recognize his role constitutive? The education, dealing with the "out of the ideal of normality", lost the individual as an enigmatic plot? It is a theoretical study, in which these issues are raised from the professional experience of the researcher, the primary sources of special education (Reports of Jean Itard- 1901- and A treatise on insanity and others disorders affecting the mind -1800- Philippe Pinel), the field of biological medical and fundamental psychopathology and from the tale called “A terceira margem do rio” (The third margin of the river) written by Guimarães Rosa. We advocate the departure of Itard as capable of break off areas and establish a new space-time, a third margin, in what used to be dual. Special – education. The lineament that unites and separates, arises from the investment, the diagnosis as margin, from Itard believing in Victor transformation through education. Lineament originator of an area and an individual, don't keep a sense a priori. In order to emphasis the constitutive function of the school and the teacher, the stroke need to slide off the ideal of normalcy to question the conditions of possibility of an education, doubting, suspending, petrified and depleting the human truths.
