The dual purpose of this study is to survey the interests of boys and girls who are in the sixth grade and to suggest a program of school work based upon these interests. The writer presents the study with the hope that it will contribute to a better understanding of what children's interests are and the part they should play in planning the curriculum and complete school program.

The problem of this investigation is to make a comparative study of first-grade children to determine, if possible, whether the child who attends kindergarten has any advantages over one who does not attend.

This study sought to determine if there were differences in the types of reading interests of seventh- and eighth-grade pupils associated with their racial origins, their socioeconomic status, or their school environments. It also sought to consider the strength of reading interest scores as related to other variables and to consider the relationship between these scores and the number of hours spent in reading and the change in amount of reading since the previous school year.

The purpose of this research was to compare the scores on the variables of ability, achievement, and adjustment in an effort to locate areas wherein the children who perceive and project verbally a high amount of violence are significantly different from children who perceive and project a low amount of violence.

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between certain upset family conditions and the performance of young children from these families as measured by selected instruments. This research was also concerned with the lack of provision in commonly used evaluative techniques for discrimination between those children who actually possess low ability and those whose ability to perform is diminished because of emotional problems.

This was a study designed to investigate the effects of three independent variables in first-grade reading instruction on reading achievement and perceptual development. The independent variables included initial readiness level, type of instructional method, and sex of pupil. The major purpose of this study was to use an experimental setting to determine the relative effects of a multi-sensory perceptual training program combined with a basal-instruction program, as contrasted to an entirely conventional basal-reading program, on first-grade reading achievement and perceptual development during a school year.

The purposes of this study were (1) to ascertain the effect of three approaches of presenting reading material to fifth-grade children, (2) to analyze the results of each approach in relationship to reading ability, mental ability, and sex, and (3) to ascertain the implications of these approaches for elementary teachers and principals.

The purpose of this study was to determine the preferences of two racial and two socio-economic groups for selected aspects of class-oriented reading materials. This was accomplished by checking each subject's visual perception of pictorial representations typical of both the lower-class and the middle-class, and by checking his preferences of story themes typical of both the middle and lower-classes.
