Client-rated helpfulness of two approaches for addressing religious concerns in therapyFridman, Alice 01 July 2010 (has links)
Multicultural competence is widely considered to be an integral part of psychological research, theory, training, and effective as well as ethical practice. While some specific components of culture have received significant attention in multicultural literature and practice, religion remains an often-neglected component of culture, with little research, training, and practical guidelines available on the topic. The current study investigated potential therapy clients' perceptions of the helpfulness of two different therapist approaches to addressing religious concerns in order to identify the approach that clients find more helpful and promote its use in practice and training. One approach was characterized by basic counseling skills, such as empathy and reflection, while the other demonstrated specific knowledge and skills for working with religious concerns. University student participants completed a measure of their religious commitment (the RCI-10), watched one of two videos depicting the therapy approaches, and rated the therapist's helpfulness and credibility. Results revealed no statistically significant differences between therapist ratings completed by participants who watched different videos or endorsed different levels of personal religious commitment. These findings suggest that not all client groups may place high importance on discussions of religion in therapy, and highlight the need for therapists to assess clients' religiosity and desire to address religious issues in counseling in order to tailor their interventions to particular clients' needs.

Frequency and Magnitude of Obstacles and Helpful Behavior Items in End-of-Life Care as Perceived by Nurses Working in Critical Access HospitalsLarsen, Shalyn C. 25 April 2022 (has links) (PDF)
Background: Twenty percent of Americans live in rural areas where most of their healthcare is provided in Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs). It is unknown how frequently obstacle and helpful behavior items occur in End-of-Life (EOL) care in CAHs. Objectives: To determine the frequency of occurrence scores of obstacle and helpful behavior items in providing EOL care in CAHs. To also determine which obstacles and helpful behaviors have the greatest or least impact on EOL care based on the magnitude scores. Methods: A questionnaire was sent to nurses working in 39 CAHs in the United States. Nurse participants were asked to rate obstacle and helpful behavior items by size and frequency of occurrence. Data were analyzed to quantify the impact of obstacle and helpful behavior items on EOL care in CAHs by multiplying the mean size by the mean frequency of items to determine mean magnitude scores. Results: Items with the highest and lowest frequency were determined. Additionally, obstacle and helpful behavior item magnitude scores were calculated. Seven of the top ten obstacles were related to patients' families. Seven of the top ten helpful behaviors involved nurses ensuring families had positive experiences. Discussion: CAH nurses perceived issues around patient family members as significant obstacles to EOL care. Nurses work to ensure that families have positive experiences. Visiting hour issues seemed to be irrelevant. The use of technology, such as telehealth, seemed to provide little benefit in EOL care in CAHs.

Critical Access Hospital Nurses' Perceptions of Obstacles and Helpful Behaviors in End-of-Life CareLyman, Trissa Michelle 24 June 2021 (has links)
Background: The Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs) system was developed to bring health care to rural populations. Although CAHs lack equipment and resources, CAH nurses still provide end-of-life (EOL) care to critically-ill and dying patients. Objectives: To determine the largest and smallest ranked obstacles and helpful behaviors to providing EOL care to rural patients as perceived by CAH nurses. Also, to determine how CAH nurses' perceptions of obstacles and helpful behaviors to providing EOL care compare to that of their urban counterparts. Methods: A cross-sectional, nationally representative sample of nurses working in 39 CAHs were sent a questionnaire. Nurse participants were asked to rate obstacle and helpful behavior item sizes to providing EOL care to critically-ill patients. Current data were analyzed and compared with previously collected data obtained from urban-working critical care nurses. Results: Seven of the top 10 largest obstacle items were related directly to family behaviors and attitudes such as families not understanding what lifesaving measures entail and intra-family disagreements about life support. Largest helpful behavior items ranked in the top 10 included interventions which the nurse controls and items that impacted nurses having adequate time to deliver EOL care. The majority of the top 10 largest obstacle and helpful behavior items from the 2015 study, as ranked by urban critical care nurses, remained in the top 10 for the current study. Obstacle and helpful behavior items unique to CAHs such as a lack of resources and the nurse knowing the patient or patient's family fell below the top 10 largest items in ranking. Conclusion: As perceived by nurse participants, obstacles and helpful behaviors to providing EOL care remain similar despite location (rural versus urban). CAH nurses are accustomed to working without typical resources found in urban hospitals and therefore did not perceive resource deficits to be among the largest-ranked obstacles to providing EOL care. Family behaviors and attitudes remain the most dominant obstacle noted by nurses.

Exploring reviews and review sequences on e-commerce platform: A study of helpful reviews on Amazon.inKaushik, K., Mishra, R., Rana, Nripendra P., Dwivedi, Y.K. 25 September 2020 (has links)
Yes / Prominent e-commerce platforms allow users to write reviews for the available products. User reviews play an important role in creating the perception of the product and impact the sales. Online reviews can be considered as an important source of e-word of mouth (e-WOM) on e-commerce platforms. Various dimensions of e-WOM on product sales have been examined for different products. Broadly, studies have explored the effect of summary statistics of reviews on product sales using data from various e-commerce platforms. Few studies have utilized other review characteristics as length, valence, and content of the reviews. The sequence of reviews has been hardly explored in the literature. This study investigates the impact of sequence of helpful reviews along with other review characteristics as ratings (summary statistics), volume, informativeness, and valence of reviews on product sales. Hence, a holistic approach has been used to explore the role of summary statistics, volume, content and sequence of reviews on product sales with special emphasis on sequence of reviews. Relevant theories such as message persuasion, cognitive overload and belief adjustment model have also been explored during the construction of the model for review data. The proposed model has been validated using the helpful reviews available on Amazon.in website for various products.

”Via ordet ner i kroppen eller ur kroppen till ordet” : En kvalitativ studie om dansterapi / "Via the word down into the body or out of the body to the word" : A Qualitative Study on Dance TherapyStraihamer, Doris January 2021 (has links)
Introduction: Dance therapy is classified as an art oriented form of therapy and can thereby be regarded as complimentary. In dance therapy dance, movement, and psychotherapy are integrated through artful and creative processes. The aim of this study has been to increase understanding of what psychotherapists experience to be helpful with dance and movement in psychotherapeutic work. Issues: How do psychotherapists describe the helpfulness with dance therapy? Are there certain groups of patients who obtain greater utility from dance therapy compared to others? Method: The study is built on a qualitative and exploratory methodology within which five psychotherapists with psychodynamic backgrounds have been interviewed based on an availability sample. The interviewed psychotherapists all have education within dance therapy and are working clinically with this form of therapy. The interviews were of a semi-structured nature and the data that resulted from the interviews has been analysed using a thematic inductive approach. Result: Four themes were discerned from the data, 1) motivation/interplay, 2) creativity, 3) experience, 4) edification Discussion: In summary, it became clear that the interviewed psychotherapists described as helpful with dance therapy fits with dance therapeutic and psychodynamic theory. All four themes that were discerned from the empirics can be seen to have parallels to various mechanisms that could potentially explain why dance therapy can be helpful. The study thereby broadly confirms existing ideas about dance therapy and its effects. Specifically, it is about that dance and movement can be helpful in reaching a well-functioning relationship between therapist and patient (Motivation/interplay); that a creative exploration via movement can be helpful for self-development (Creativity); to be able to come into contact with inner experiences through dance and also process these via dance and movement, as well as to be able to accomplish containment (Experience); that dance therapy can be helpful for increased self-understanding and autonomy (Edification).
