This research has as main aim to understand the establishment of Hip Hop movement in the city of Sorocaba (SP) through the black experience. In order to reach such goal it has taken as reference Márcio Brown’s life trajectory: a black youngster who describing his memoirs provide us with collective elements that allow to comprehend the arriving and consolidation of this movement in the city. Departing from an autobiographic narrative, this thesis intends to explain subjectivist processes, which take individuals to political and racial mobilization, and also to problematize concepts such as race, racism, essentialism, culture, African diaspora and identity

Belang van pasientonderrig in die rehabilitasieproses by heupvervanging- chirurgie pasiente

Van der Merwe, Carin 30 November 2002 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans / In this quantitative study emphasis is placed on the role of the nurse as a member of the rehabilitation team. Furthermore, the role of the nurse in patient education as well as the importance of effective patient education during the rehabilitation process after hip replacement surgery is emphasised. Various factors that impacted on the rehabilitation process are highlighted. A structured interview schedule was used to interview a group of 20 respondents. All of the respondents participated voluntarily. Orem's Selfcare Theory was used as a theoretical basis for the study. The researcher determined which information respondents regarded as important to attain functional independence during the rehabilitation process. The data gathered would serve as recommendation for a planned information brochure that could in future be given to patients at their first visit to the surgeon before surgery. The brochure could then be used as a basis for patient education in the course of the rehabilitation process. / Advanced Nursing Sciences / M.A. (Verpleegkunde)

Disserta??o (Mestrado) ? Programa de P?s-Gradua??o em Zootecnia, Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri, 2017. / Two experiments were carried out, the first one to evaluate the influence of the symbiotic antibiotic florfenicol and the consortium of both, and the second one evaluated the symbiotic, antibiotic and probiotic effects in the cultivation of juveniles of matrinx? raised in low temperature, on the variables of productive performance, che mical composition of fish, water quality and cortisol analysis. In the first experiment, 250 juveniles were selected, with weight and length of 0,38 ? 0,07 g and 3,24 ? 0,19 cm, respectively, under the following treatments: control - water and feed without additive; SIMR - 2 g.kg - 1 of symbiotic in ration; ANTAG - 0.002 g.L - 1 of antibiotic in water; ANTAG + SIMR - 0.002 g.L - 1 of antibiotic in water and 2 g.kg - 1 of symbiotic in ration; ANTR - 0.01 g.kg - 1 of antibiotic in the diet, arranged in a completely ran domized design, with five treatments and five replicates of 10 fish per aquarium. In the second experiment 200 animals were used, with weight and length of 2.38 ? 0.51 g and 6.32 ? 0.52 cm, respectively, under the following treatments: Control - ration wit hout inclusion of additive; PROBR - 10 g.kg - 1 of Saccharomyces cerevisiae in the diet; SIMBR - 2 g.kg - 1 of symbiotic in ration; ANTR - 0.01 g.kg - 1 of antibiotic in the diet, arranged in a completely randomized design with five treatments and five of 10 fis h per aquarium. The two experiments had a duration of 60 days in a closed water recirculation system in the Aquaculture and Aquatic Ecology Sector of the UFVJM. For the first experiment the juveniles of matrinx? presented no difference to the parameters of productive performance and survival in any of the evaluated treatments. For the chemical composition of the fish, a higher concentration of dry matter was observed with the treatment containing antibiotic in the diet when compared to the control group. Th e cultivation of juveniles of Brycon amazonicus supplemented with symbiotic, antibiotic and/or consortium of both at low temperature does not improve fish performance. The additives studied did not interfere in the parameters of water quality, observed by the high survival rates. Adequate conditions do not require antibiotic and symbiotic use. For the second experiment, the parameters of feed intake, feed conversion and Fulton condition factor presented better results with the inclusion of antibiotic in the diet. Treatments with probiotic in the diet, symbiotic in ration and antibiotic in ration, had lower levels of plasma cortisol when compared to the control group. Therefore, the use of antibiotic to improve the yield of matrinx?, and antibiotic, symbiotic and probiotic culture as an anti - stressing factor is indicated.

Immunologic characteristics of nerves within osteoarthritic marrow regions of human femoral heads

Rathod, Sonali 24 July 2018 (has links)
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common degenerative joint disease, affecting primarily the hip, knee, and hand (Ip 2005). OA of the knee and hip is the 11th highest contributor to global disability (Cross et al. 2014). Hip OA is diagnosed using radiographs, computed tomography (CT), and/or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Hip OA affects the whole hip joint, causing pain and reduced range of motion (Altman et al. 1991). The cause of pain in OA is not well understood, but it may be attributed to abnormal growth of blood vessels and nerves in the subchondral bone of the femoral head (Kumar et al. 2013). Quantifying blood vessels and nerves and correlating their presence with diagnostic techniques such as MRI will establish a relationship between femoral head degeneration and pain levels and current diagnostic signs. The aims of this study were: (1) to develop a reproducible histological technique to identify blood vessels and nerves in bone sections; and (2) to apply this protocol to identify blood vessel and nerve characteristics within osteoarthritic femoral heads. Femoral heads were retrieved from 8 OA patients (age range: 40-76; 5 female and 3 male) undergoing total hip replacement surgery. Each sample was evaluated for the presence of subchondral bone cysts using micro-computed tomography (µCT), then regions containing cysts were isolated and dissected for histological processing. Different fixation times in paraformaldehyde (PFA) were tested in three samples to assess the effect of fixation time on binding of the primary antibody to the target. Samples were stained with hematoxylin and eosin to evaluate overall tissue morphology, safarin-O and fast green to visualize the integrity of articular cartilage, anti-CD31 to identify vascular endothelium, and anti-PGP 9.5 to identify peripheral nerve fibers. A protocol was successfully developed to identify CD31-positive blood vessels and PGP 9.5-positive nerves in osteoarthritic femoral heads. The immunohistochemistry protocols for staining with anti-CD31 and anti-PGP 9.5 were optimized for maximum intensity of target staining, minimal background staining, and minimal artefactual tissue folding. Fixation time in PFA was not found to have an effect on quality of staining with anti-CD31. Blood vessels were found in all eight of the samples collected, and peripheral nerves were found in five of the samples. Special attention was paid to regions with fibrous subchondral bone cysts, because these are the most likely type to undergo neurovascular invasion. Out of the five samples with fibrous subchondral bone cysts, blood vessels were identified in all five cyst regions, and peripheral nerves were identified in three cyst regions. Using the protocols developed in this study, blood vessels and nerves were found in osteoarthritic femoral heads. In future, a larger sample set will be used to correlate the nature of blood vessel density and nerves that are found in bone marrow lesions identified on MRI scans obtained before surgery and are associated with bone cysts. This is an important step towards identifying more effective treatments for OA that address the specific underlying causes and the development of non-treatable pain.

Experimentações juvenis : nas trilhas do Hip Hop /

Silva, Roberta Grangel da. January 2009 (has links)
Abstract: The present paper has the object of mapping the Hip Hop culture, being Breaking the focus study. Our practice was an exercise of nomadism in an attempt of following the lines drawn throughout the encounters with the literature with the groups that are influenced by the Hip Hop Culture, giving visibility to the modes of subjectivity, singularity and affections that escaped from certain territories captured by mass culture and control strategies. In this process, we affected and were affected by the history of Hip Hop that was being perceived as narratives of creative processes. Such processes were sustained by vibrating bodies whose intensities shoot resistance movements with lines of escape that allow the creation of particulars ways of existence related to those created by the capitalistic flows.. To map the movement of desire in the will of expanding life through the managing of body-city-breaking meant understand that the change does not repeat and that there is always something in the other that transforms one. / Mestre

A clinical audit of the utilisation of red blood cell products in elective total hip replacement surgery

Peters, Yvonne Grace January 2015 (has links)
Thesis (MTech (Biomedical Sciences))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2015. / Previous international studies have documented a marked variation in transfusion practice for Total Hip Replacement (THR) surgery. This is despite widespread dissemination of clinical guidelines for the use of blood products. The cost and potential wastage of blood products as well as concerns regarding patient care and outcomes are important drivers of optimal blood management. The aim of this study was to audit red cell product utilisation for THR surgeries at two tertiary referral hospitals.

From Machine to Instrument: A Composer's Perspective of Turntables Composition

January 2014 (has links)
abstract: Since 1999, a small group of groundbreaking orchestral works for turntables and orchestra has surfaced on the concert stage. These compositions explore the possibilities of the turntables and invite an intriguing fusion of musical cultures of the classically trained musician and the hip-hop DJ. Since DJ turntablists typically follow an improvised tradition and do not read music, the composer must find an effective means of notating the turntables and collaborate with the turntablist in the execution of the work. As interest in turntables composition grows, there is a need for discussion and a compositional guide with advice based on present day works. In effort to contribute a guide for turntablism composition, my research includes a historical and composer perspective that discusses turntables techniques, operation of the equipment, digital technology, hip-hop background, history of the instrument, and works of the past and present with musical excerpts pertaining to the notation and use of the turntables. Specific sources include: RPM by Nicole Lizée, Concerto for Trumpet, Turntables, and Orchestra by Paul Leary, Concerto for Turntables and Orchestra by Gabriel Prokofiev, and Stephen Webber's turntable method book The Art of the DJ Turntable Technique. Interviews with composers Prokofiev, Lizée, and Leary have provided important primary source information regarding their experience with turntablism composition and performance. Unrelated to the above research and attached as an appendix, my composition Andrew's Ritual for Bedtime for chamber orchestra is a single movement for choreographed dance that depicts a mother preparing her energetic young son for bed. The title references the nightly rituals parents undertake in order to prepare their children for bedtime. / Dissertation/Thesis / D.M.A. Music 2014
