Odborové rekreace v Československu v 50. a 60. letech 20. století / Trade Union Recreations in Czechoslovakia in the 50s and 60s of the 20th CenturyČornejová, Alžběta January 2011 (has links)
Title: Trade Union Recreations in Czechoslovakia in the 50s and 60s of the 20th Century Annotation: The thesis analyses organization, course, and other aspects of trade union "recreation", important and favorite way of holiday spending in former Czechoslovakia. It is a contribution to the research of a leisure time phenomenon. Based primarily on so far unexploited archival sources it observes development of leisure activities and recreation stays organized by the Revolutionary Trade Union Movement between 1948 and 1968. It focuses both on recreation of adults and young pioneers' summer camps. It deals with artistic representation of daily life at trade union recreations in movies and fiction literature, among others. Conclusions of the research are above all as follows: attempts at ideological indoctrination of people even during their leisure time, accentuated at the beginning of the period in view, grew weak gradually. Organized recreation stays became a desired way of a cheap holiday, namely in absence of other possibilities. A collectivist spirit belonged to main characteristics of this way, but it was not solely linked to the communist ideology. Key words: modern history - trade unions - trade union holiday ("recreation") - pioneers'summer camps

Organização, estrutura e impactos das colônias de férias de trabalhadores: alguns estudos de caso / Organization, structure and impact of employee holiday resorts : some case studiesKarklis, Luis Roberto 24 September 2008 (has links)
Employee holiday resorts are a form of lodging for those on the social scale which would generally benefit from assistance with vacation expenses. They are commonly associated with Social Tourism practiced by entities such as workers associations and unions. In Brazil, the majority of these resorts are located in Sao Paulo, mainly on the coastline and in mountainous regions. The importance of work is substantiated because the holiday resorts are a way to democratize tourism, essentially lowering the cost of lodging and possibly adding cultural activities which allow for a more purposeful leisure time. As a geographical object of study, important debates are revealed such as concern for the use of the land, the ability to aggregate environmental and scenic quality and generate jobs in the surrounding municipalities. The need to contemplate political policy encouraging this type of tourism is also brought up, not only concerning territorial issues but also concerning the involvement of workers associations and unions which are the main entities connected with this phenomenon and deserve attention for being those responsible for management and enterprising. In this study we find that the worlds highest concentration of this type of lodging is located in the Praia Grande municipality on the Sao Paulo state coastline. This phenomenon demands governmental attention, as well as the attention of the workers associations and unions themselves, because they are able optimize the quality of tourism and leisure time for workers and their families.

Branding Strategies within International Hotel Chains : A case study of Lithuanian MarketMaseviciute, Kamile, Gueorguieva, Nicole, Georgiev, Petar January 2015 (has links)
Background: The hospitality industry, especially the hotel business, is a relatively new, and rapidly growing industry in Lithuania. The last two decades resulted in a significant expansion of the local hotel market, as well as of operations of international hotel chains. Thus, competition among actors in the industry, along with the companies’ need to differentiate their offerings from those of competitors, has risen. Branding strategies are increasingly used by companies for achieving better positioning on the market, as well as for gaining a competitive advantage and customers’ loyalty. Knowing that global brands play an important role for firms’ visibility on the market, it is important to recognize, and understand the factors influencing marketing management- and branding-related activities. To accomplish this, an in-depth understanding behind the structure and branding strategies of international hotel chains should be developed. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to understand the rationale behind the structure, and operations of international hotel operators in Lithuania, with a focus on the hotels’ branding strategies. Furthermore, the thesis aims to investigate how companies use their brand identity to position themselves in the market. Methodology: This thesis relies on a qualitative research, with a main focus on discovery, and aim to expand current knowledge in the field of hospitality management and branding within the Lithuanian hotel industry. The study consists of an in-depth case study of three international hotel chains operating in Lithuania. The empirical data was gathered from semi-structured, and e-mail interviews with the chosen hotels’ representatives, as well as from secondary data such as annual reports and official websites. Conclusion: Three key findings are presented in this thesis. First of all, the authors identify business travelers as the main target group of the selected international hotel operators in Vilnius. Secondly, the examined hotel operators are recognized to standardize their structure and operations, but at the same time to customize their marketing strategies to the local market. Finally, the findings indicate that some hotels completely incorporate the brand identity of the chain, which they belong to, while others develop their own brand identity, relying only partly on the identity of the chain. Contributions: This thesis positively contributes to the academic community, as it expands the theoretical knowledge about the Lithuanian hotels industry, with a main focus on the branding- and marketing activities of international hotel chains. The findings provide a practical insight on how companies are positioned in the market in relation to their competitors. Moreover, with an extensive choice of accommodation available in the market, the comparison of hotels is beneficial in helping customers choosing the best alternative according to their needs.
