TEST CASES REDUCTION IN SOFTWARE PRODUCT LINE USING REGRESSION TESTING

Application Engineering is a field where software organizations develop software products from a predefined Software Product Line. The time and cost allotted to come up with a new product variant is limited. Lack of systematic support in testing leads to redundancy. Redundancy in this context can be found in test-cases that do not contribute towards fault-detection and testing leads to an increased testing effort. This thesis work proposes a framework to reduce the testing effort, aimed at avoiding testing redundancy. Feature Model diagrams have been constructed from the assumed specification requirements. These Feature Model diagrams have been used to derive test models such as Object Model diagram and State Chart diagram. Unit testing and System testing have been performed on test models to obtain test cases that have been stored in the repository. Regression testing has been applied to these test cases to classify them into Reusable, Re-testable and Obsolete.

Submarine Power Cable Transmission Line Parameters and Performance

Submarine power production installations use the power of the ocean to generate renewable energy for the population to use. To bring this electricity back to land, use of electrical cables is required. The choice of cable will affect both the quality of received power and the security of the transmission line. To find the inductance and capacitance of these submarine transmission lines, a study of the electric and magnetic fields that are produced due to the power flow on these cables must be performed. The armor that is used to protect the cable from underwater hazards is significant in determining the cable losses and finding the equivalent inductance and capacitance. Finding the inductance and capacitance of the submarine cable will allow for the determination of the two port parameters of the cable. These parameters will allow for the analysis of the transient and steady state performance of the cable.

On-line monitoring of microbial fermentation end-products synthesized by Clostridium thermocellum using Titrimetric Off-Gas Analysis (TOGA)

Bioprocesses carried out for the production of fuels and other value-added co-products require effective process control strategies. The objective of this research is to apply Titrimetric Off-Gas Analysis (TOGA) for the on-line estimation of fermentation end products using Clostridium thermocellum. The hydrogen ion production, gaseous H2 and CO2, soluble H2 and CO2, as well as ethanol in the liquid phase and vapour phase, were monitored. All parameters, except the dissolved gases, showed good correlation with concurrent off-line analysis. The resulting mass and electron balances were close to theoretical values, and not significantly different from those determined using off-line analysis. Liquid-to-gas mass transfer limitations caused supersaturation of H2(aq) for a wide-range of operating conditions, and on average, ranged between 8-14 times the expected value at thermodynamic equilibrium. The supersaturation of CO2(aq) was conditional, and could be alleviated by increased sparging at agitation such that no significant mass transfer limitation was present. Simultaneous data on ethanol, CO2, and H2 could be obtained with the MIMS probe placed adjacent to the liquid surface in the reactor headspace. From this data, a metabolic model was proposed for the on-line estimation of formate and acetate using a mass balance and an electron balance. The model estimated formate concentrations with reasonable accuracy. Acetate predictions agreed with the qualitative trends, but the concentrations were inaccurate in comparison with off-line analysis. It was demonstrated that the sensor could provide on-line information on all major end-products synthesized by C. thermocellum. In conclusion, TOGA is a valuable instrument for the on-line monitoring and study of fermentation processes for cellulosic biofuels production

Methods for Modeling of Product Lines for Safety-critical Systems

Software product line engineering is a proposed methodology that enables software products and software-intensive systems to be developed at lower cost, higher quality and less time to market. The structured and managed artifacts reuse among different products in development is the main target of software product line engineering. As a key-method of the product line engineering approach, the commonality and variability analysis is a technique that identifies the potential artifacts for reuse. But the reuse poses challenges for delivering safety-critical products from the product line and achieving product line functional safety. In order to analyze the product line and provide more valuable information for its safety analysis, we make use of established product line modeling techniques, which model the product line commonality and variability from different perspectives. In this report, we investigate the product line modeling techniques. The product modeling analysis process covers two aspects: 1. Study different product line modeling techniques and find the ones suitable for product line modeling. We choose the modeling techniques that can be implemented to discuss in detail. 2. We implement the industrial wheel loader product line with two modeling techniques. Comprehensive models and detailed modeling process explanation are presented. The product line functional safety analysis covers three aspects: 1. Investigate the different safety analysis techniques and choose the fault tree analysis as the main technique. 2. Extend the single system fault tree to the product line fault tree. 3. Investigate the contributions of the product line modeling techniques to the product line functional safety analysis. Specifically, we map the product line models to the product line fault tree. Furthermore, we evaluate the product line modeling techniques from their performance in domain analysis and safety analysis.

Stochastic theory of relaxation and collisional broadening of spectral line shapes

A complete stochastic theory of relaxation is developed in terms of a homogeneous equation for the averaged density matrix of a system immersed in a thermal bath. This theory is then used as the basis of a new stochastic approach to the phenomenon of collisional broadening of spectral line shapes. Single photon and multiphoton processes are studied. The features of a line shape are linked by simple expressions to the statistical properties of a stochastic hermitian Hamiltonian. The ordinary line shape predicted by Kubo's approach is generalized. The present approach predicts broadening as well as asymmetry and shift. A representation of line shapes in multiphoton processes by diagrams is also developed.
