Quantifiable research cluster effect: the diamond model

Liu, Chun-kuang 26 June 2009 (has links)
Micheal Porter ¡§the country competitive advantage which¡¨ publishes in 1990 (The Competitive Advantage of Nations) in a book, proposed the industrial cluster the strong character which acts in the national competitive power, ¡§scientific and technical park¡¨ the idea is also the industrial cluster concept derivation to a certain extent. In the past concentrated in the industrial cluster's research in the metropolis plan study and the regional economies domain, few had the management science stratification plane discussion, after 1990 Micheal Porter publication diamond model (Diamond Structure model), grew the industrial cluster's research to further management stratification plane in and so on enterprise's strategy, competition, market demand and industrial structure subjects. However, Porter in the diamond model, had not mentioned how to compare and appraise between the different cluster the cluster effect height, is also lacks a set to be possible the quantification model. In order to solve in the Porter diamond model to lack the quantification model the question, this research application analogism, quotes Newton (1687) the law of universal gravitation which proposed in "Natural philosophy's Mathematics Principle" to take the analogy, develops the cluster relative effect the comparison model, explained why during different essential factor in an industrial settlement's will have the cohesion phenomenon, will form the cluster effect finally. In this study, Central and Southern Taiwan Science Park's TFT-LCD industry as the research object, evaluation of these two science parks in the TFT-LCD industry cluster effect on the merits, to verify the model's feasibility in real life. In the final results, will be the evaluation of the scores of small movements do multiply, the two parks, the Southern Taiwan Science Park to obtain higher scores, it can be said that the Southern Taiwan Science Park, TFT-LCD industry cluster effect higher. By Porter in the diamond model's five big essential factor classification, in ¡§factor of conditions¡¨ and ¡§related and supporting industry¡¨ in these two essential factors, the Southern Taiwan Science Park was in the upper hand; In ¡§demand condition¡¨ and ¡§firm strategy, structure and rivalry¡¨ on, is the Central Taiwan Science Park holds the superiority; As for in last item ¡§government and opportunity¡¨ in the comparison, two campuses are equally matched. Finally, also at the Central Taiwan Science Park and Southern Taiwan Science Park development on the current problems faced by comment, I hope the next government as a policy planning in the industrial park on the proposal, which is newly developed in this study "cluster can be quantified effect model "where the ultimate goal.

Proposta de um sistema de medição de desempenho para clusters industriais de pequenas e médias empresas / Proposal of the system performance measurement for industrial clusters of small and medium enterprises

Cardoza Galdámez, Edwin Vladimir 14 December 2007 (has links)
Continuous innovation, performance measurement and other management tools have widely been used in companies as a means of developing new ways of improvement considering strategic objectives and monitoring results. According to this project, performance measurement methods can also be applied to manage the performance of an industrial cluster of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). After reviewing typical features for performance measurement and industrial clusters as well as carrying out qualitative research on the cluster of Ibitinga in the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, this project presents a framework to control the performance perspectives of SMEs cluster. Afterwards we discuss the obtained results from a research carried out in the cluster of Ibitinga and Jaú. A Study on Small Appliance Manufacturers¡¦ Management Strategy ¡V Case of Taiwan-Based Manufacturer, Airmate Electrical (Shenzhen) Co.,Ltd., in China

Su, Lin-chen 22 August 2007 (has links)
Along with more and more intense competition of OEM as well as ODM low margin strategy, Taiwanese' small appliance manufacturers have inevitably encountered the sharp profit decline and could no longer benefit from the original good earnings that derive from Vertical Integration Strategy commonly applied. In order to sustain the competitiveness and pursue higher returns, it's indispensable for those Taiwanese small appliance manufacturers to further consider moving towards value chains that generate better added-value such as R&D and marketing; R&D here includes innovation, patent and marketing consists of brand as well as channel. By fully adopting Vertical Integration Strategy in the preliminary, Airmate has fruitfully grown to a well profit-earning company and then moved towards design innovation as well as brand that were extremely stressed in Smile Curve Theory. Once again, Airmate has succeeded in the branding and considerably benefited from its brand equity. Based on China market's small appliance background, trend and affiliated with a liner regression analysis on home appliance manufacturers as well as channels, a research was conducted through in-depth interview and secondary data gathering to discuss how Airmate should further utilize channel to manifest its brand equity so that it could accordingly generate more profits as well as stabilize its cash flow. In summary, this very study has revealed and concluded a number of suggestions as followings. 1.New Product Development Strategy Owing to the inferiority of its product mix, Airmate has to further develop new product with eminent complexity and more varieties so that it could enhance its core competence as well as keep the new competitors from involving in the original competition. 2. Branding Strategy Airmate is highly suggested to keep investing in the branding as a way to better strengthen Airmate's high-end brand image. At the same time, a new branding project should be planned in order to extend Airmate's brand recognition to those secondary and thirdly cities as well as farmers market. It's not advised to additionally rebuild the middle or low end brands for thirdly cities or farmers market as it will muddle its brand positioning and diminish its high-end brand image. In light of brand theory, a product with higher added-value could correspondingly secure higher market price and generate better profit. Thus, since Airmate has been doing OEM as well as ODM for those celebrated appliance companies worldwide, it's extremely recommended that Airmate should appeal to media such as newspaper or magazine to publish articles to associate its brand with those high-end appliance companies. 3.The Channel Selection Strategy It's highly advised that Airmate should concentrate on primary and focused channels such as Home Appliance Chain Stores and Supermarket. A review and scheme should be conducted as a way to raise its brand exposure and at the same time increase the sales amount. 4.The Selection of Domestic or Foreign Channels Strategy With the advantages of advanced channel operations as well as management know-how and its large scale new stores opening plan, foreign channels have obviously surpassed the performance of channel efficiency and benefit than that of domestic channels. It's highly recommended that Airmate should actively build further close cooperation with foreign channels. 5.Channel Relationship Management A review on various channels and consumers' behaviors is suggested in order to better position the price and product separately to match up each channel. 6.The Measure to Cope With the Competition Resulted from WTO Innovation and setting up new appliance standard are key to sustain the core competence, Airmate is thus advised to focus on these two aspects.

Taiwan is a country with limited land resources and a dense population. Regarding national land, it should be effectively and comprehensively utilized, developed and maintained so that industries can have appropriately allocation and development under regional planning in the hope to improve national welfare. However, Taiyen Biotech Co., Ltd. (Taiwan Salt Industrial Corporation) has terminated solar salt work completely since 2002 and returned 5,243 hectares of land to National Property Administration. The re-development and use of land has remained under review consideration. The solar salt economic activities that once supported tens of thousand of people have ground to a halt due to the termination of solar salt work, leaving salt fields unattended. And salt villages have become desolate. It is a shame to see the unattended salt fields soak in sea water and turn into marshes. The author tries to study from the viewpoint of National Comprehensive Development Plan and its relation with industrial development and present three industrial cluster-based economy science park development projects. They can provide choices for the government to make effective management guidelines in National Comprehensive Development Plan. By re-invigorating regional industrial economy in the country, we may expect to build new prosperous science and technology townships. Keywords: development, National Comprehensive Development Plan, industrial cluster-based economy, project, regional economy.
