Trismegistos Places: a geographical index for all Latin inscriptionsVerreth, Herbert January 2016 (has links)
The Trismegistos database has recently created a geographical index for all Latin inscriptions. For the moment we have 67.884 geographical references attested in Latin documentary texts, but this rough starting material still has to be refined. This paper describes how we undertook this task, which problems we encountered while doing so, and the choices we made for the presentation of the material.

Depth map of the Rosetta StoneAmin, Miriam, Barmpoutis, Angelos, Berti, Monica, Bozia, Eleni, Hensel, Josephine, Naether, Franziska 08 April 2020 (has links)
The Digital Rosetta Stone is a project developed at Leipzig University by the Chair of Digital Humanities and the Egyptological Institute/Egyptian Museum Georg Steindorff in collaboration with the British Museum and the Digital Epigraphy and Archaeology Project of the University of Florida. The aims of the project are to produce a collaborative digital edition of the Rosetta Stone, address standardization and customization issues for the scholarly community, create data that can be used by students to understand the document in terms of language and content, and produce a high-resolution 3D model of the inscription. The three versions of the text were transcribed and outputted in XML, according to the EpiDoc guidelines. Next, the versions were aligned with the Ugarit iAligner tool that supports the alignment of ancient texts with modern languages, such as English and German. All three texts were then parsed syntactically and morphologically through Treebank annotation. Finally, the project explored new 3D-digitization methodologies of the Rosetta Stone in the British Museum that enhances traditional archaeological methods and facilitates the study of the artifact. The results of this work were used in different courses in Digital Humanities, Digital Philology, and Egyptology.

Over the last 25 years german archaeology has substantially contributed to the discussion of the
chronology of the late Iron Age. This article not only provides a chart summaris-ing the status quo, but rather
a critical assessment of the history of this discussion in order to explain the course it has taken.

Prospektion einer Villa rustica bei Wederath, Flur Hinterm Klop (Gde. Morbach, Kr. Bernkastel-Wittlich, Rheinland-Pfalz)Teegen, Wolf-Rüdiger, Cordie, Rosemarie, Schrickel, Marco, Lukas, Dominik, Camurri, Erica 29 May 2019 (has links)
Keramik. Die bestimmbare Keramik datiert in das 2./3. Jh. n. Chr. / Archaeological prospections by the University of Leipzig in the surroundings of the Roman vicus Belginum
revealed near Wederath (Rhenania-Palatinate, Germany) a villa rustica. Stone concentrations of different
dimensions are indicating the main and several minor buildings. The finds are consisting mainly of bricks and
relatively few ceramic sherds. The ceramics are dating into the 2nd/3rd cent. AD.

Prospektion im Tempelbezirk 3 des römischen vicus Belginum (OT Wederath, Gde. Morbach, Kr. Bernkastel-Wittlich, Rheinland-Pfalz)Teegen, Wolf-Rüdiger, Cordie, Rosemarie, Schrickel, Marco, Lukas, Dominik, Camurri, Erica, König, Jan, Frase, Jörg, Ramsch, Jan 29 May 2019 (has links)
Im Rahmen des mehrjährigen Prospektionsprogramms der Universität Leipzig im Bereich des römischen vicus Belginum (OT Wederath, Gde. Morbach, Kr.
Since several years, the University of Leipzig is carrying out archaeological prospections in the Roman vicus Belginum and its surroundings (OT Wederath, Gde. Morbach, Kr. Bernkastel-Wittlich, Rhenania-Palatinate, Germany). In November 2007 the temple area 3 was prospected. This site is located at the western periphery of the vicus. It was until yet only known by geophysical prospection. The actual prospection showed a perfect coincidence of findings and the magnetometer plot. High frequencies of finds, mostly brick fragments,
were found at the Temenos walls and the site of the Gallo-Roman temple. The few ceramic sherds are dating from the 1st to the 2nd, probably the early 3rd cent. AD. Remarkable was the find of hand-made pottery, dating into the middle and late Latène period (approx. 3rd-1st cent. BC).

Material properties of copper alloys containing arsenic, antimony, and bismuth: the material of Early Bronze Age ingot torquesJunk, Margrit 16 May 2003 (has links)
This work deals with Early Bronze Age ingot torques, their composition, and material properties. The aim was to decide whether and how a choice of materials by composition or properties was possible during the Early Bronze Age. Early Bronze Age ingot torques were analysed and artefacts from several hoard finds and working stages were investigated metallographically. On the basis of these data the production technology was reconstructed. For the determination of mechanical and technological properties, reference alloys were produced and investigated. The production process was simulated by forging experiments. The investigations revealed that ingot torques were produced by a standardised technology, independent of their composition. The results of the material testing show that it is possible to distinguish the composition of the Early Bronze Age alloys by their mechanical and technological properties.

Die Scherbe mit den mysteriösen Rechtecken: Ostrakon Leipziger Ägyptisches Museum 1270 (O. Lips. ÄMUL. inv. 1270)Naether, Franziska 30 October 2018 (has links)
