Informações informais na monitoração do ambiente organizacional : um estudo exploratório no setor de TI

Andriotti, Fernando Kuhn January 2008 (has links)
Among all organizational activities, environmental scanning should be one of them. This activity, which has the information as main output and input, just in a few cases is developed with all recommended stages. There are lots of reasons that incentives/contributes to this behavior, one of them is the flood of information that comes from the market, which difficults the environmental scanning activity. In this process, especially due to this, some go after non-structured informal information, from all kinds of sources. Based on this, the aim of this study is to comprehend, through the identification of some dimensions of environmental scanning, the use of informal information by executives and specialists from IT (Information Technology). It was considered individual specialists that have as main occupation to provide/distribute information, in this case, professionals that have an involvement with the IT area. The users are executives that were selected according to the core business of their organizations – that is oriented to the IT area as well. As an exploratory and qualitative study, the data collection was made through interviews with the participants. The results were analyzed according to the dimensions identified, and this allowed to have a broad scenario of the use of informal information – by whom provides and by who uses information to scan their environments.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This study aimed to identify the relationship between the conditions to create and use learning strategies in the workplace of a network of social and sports clubs nationwide. The concept of organizational creativity was understood as "the generation of ideas, processes, products and/or new services for that individual, group, or in that context that can generate valuable contributions to the organization and/or for the welfare of the people working in that context and that have essential elements to their implementation" and the concept of learning strategies as" practices that people use to support the acquisition of knowledge and skills in their professional context". The survey was conducted with 198 permanent employees from different units of the network of clubs through the application of a structured questionnaire available electronically, containing two instruments measure. The Indicators of Conditions to Create in the Workplace (ICCW) composed of two scales, being the first dedicated to favorable conditions for creativity, consisting of 36 items and 6 factors, and the second dedicated to unfavorable conditions for creativity, with 24 items on 3 factors. The learning strategy scale used, made by Brandão and Andrade-Borges (2011), consists of 26 items distributed on 5 factors. Descriptive and exploratory analyzes were performed, and multivariate techniques such as factor analysis and Spearman correlation. The identification of evidence of validity revealed new factor structures for the scales of favorable conditions for creativity and learning strategy, passing both to be composed by four factors. There was more agreement on the presence of favorable conditions for creativity freedom of action and challenging activities and characteristics of the physical environment while for unfavorable condition was Excess Service and lack of time. Learning strategies indicated as more used were Practical application and active reflection and Interpersonal Help Seeking. Then, the positive association between favorable conditions for creativity with the learning strategies was found, as well as the negative association of some learning strategies with unfavorable conditions for creativity. Six of the nine first hypotheses formulated based on the literature have been confirmed empirically and eight other unforeseen relations have also been identified. The main results show that learning strategy interpersonal help Search is related to all the factors of conditions to create, Favorable or unfavorable, except with Communication difficulty and rigidity of rules and regulations in the organization, that had no relation to any learning strategy. The greatest effect relationships are the factor of favorable conditions Freedom of action and challenging activities with the learning strategies Practical application and active reflection, Interpersonal help seeking and Seeking help from written material. The favorable condition for creativity Stimulus to new ideas from colleagues, bosses and organizational actions is related to all learning strategies.

Identifying Needs Of Older Adults With Alzheimer's Disease And Related Dementias In A Rehabilitation Setting: Perceptions Of Formal And Informal Caregivers

January 2014 (has links)
abstract: The purpose of this study is to identify the needs of older adults with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and related dementias (ADRD) admitted to a rehabilitation setting where they are expected to physically and mentally function to their optimal level of health. To date, no studies have identified the needs and concerns of ADRD patients in rehabilitation settings. The Needs-Driven Dementia-Compromised Behavior (NDB) Model, the researcher's clinical experience, and the state of the current scientific literature will help guide the study. An exploratory qualitative research approach was employed to gather data and discover new information about the ADRD patient's needs and related behavioral outcomes. The qualitative findings on the discrepancies and similarities in perceptions of ADRD patient needs were obtained by examining formal and informal caregivers' perceptions. The researcher recruited registered nurses and certified nurse assistants (RNs and CNAs, formal) and family/friends (informal) who have provided care to patients in inpatient rehabilitation facilities to participate in focus groups and individualized focused interviews. The data were collated and analyzed using a thematic analysis approach. The overarching theme that developed as a result of this approach revealed discordant perceptions and expectations of ADRD patients' needs between the formal and informal caregivers with six subthemes: communication and information, family involvement, rehabilitation nurse philosophy, nursing care, belonging, and patient outcomes. The researcher provided recommendations to help support these needs. These findings will help guide the development of nurse-lead interventions for ADRD patients in a rehabilitation setting. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Nursing and Healthcare Innovation 2014

Videogames, Informal Teaching, and the Rhetoric of Design

January 2016 (has links)
abstract: This dissertation is about videogames. It is also about teaching, and the ways videogame design represents good teaching. However, this dissertation is not about videogames alone. It makes broad claims about teaching in- and out-of-schools in the 21st Century. Over the last few decades many scholars have been impressed by the rich forms of learning going on out-of-school. In particular, the emergence of digital and social media has fueled interest in informal learning while often ignoring or effacing the critical role of teaching. Indeed, the term “informal learning” is common while the term “informal teaching” barely exists. At the same time, the learning sciences have made progress on understanding how learning works based on empirical evidence of how the mind operates. While this research is not well implemented in many of our schools, it is well represented in much out-of-school learning (such as in videogames). This dissertation argues that there is a body of evidence germane to good teaching, that many learning principles celebrated today in out-of-school learning are actually teaching principles, and that good videogames can give us insights into how teaching can work as a form of design with or without games. The dissertation then develops a model of distributed teaching and learning systems which involve designed- and emergent organization of various teaching and learning “sites”. Finally, the dissertation looks at the rhetorical function of teaching in building a “deliberate learner,” one whose goal is not simply to know and do things, but to become a certain type of person committed to new ways with words, forms of interaction, and values. Rhetoric, teaching, learning, and design of all sorts have been set free from institutions and turned loose into a market place of ideas and sites. In the face of this market place we need to engage in discussions about who we want to be, who we want others to be, and what world we want all of us to live in. These discussions will center not just on “truth”, but on values as well—which is exactly where, in a high-risk imperiled world, they should be centered. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation English 2016

The Role of Informal Transit in New York City: A Case Study of Commuter Vans in Eastern Queens

January 2017 (has links)
abstract: Informal public transport is commonplace in the developing world, but the service exists in the United States as well, and is understudied. Often called "dollar vans", New York's commuter vans serve approximately 120,000 people every day (King and Goldwyn, 2014). While this is a tiny fraction of the New York transit rider population, it is comparable to the total number of commuters who ride transit in smaller cities such as Minneapolis/St Paul and Phoenix. The first part of this study reports on the use of commuter vans in Eastern Queens based on a combination of surveys and a ridership tally, all conducted in summer 2016. It answers four research questions: How many people ride the vans? Who rides the commuter vans? Why do they ride commuter vans? Do commuter vans complement or compete against formal transit? Commuter van ridership in Eastern Queens was approximately 55,000 with a high percentage of female ridership. Time and cost savings were the main factors influencing commuter van ridership. Possession of a MetroCard was shown to negatively affect the frequency of commuter van ridership. The results show evidence of commuter vans playing both a competing and complementary role to MTA bus and subway transit. The second part of this study presents a SWOT analysis results of commuter vans, and the policy implications. It answers 2 research questions: What are the main strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of commuter vans in Eastern Queens? and How do the current policies, rules and regulations affect commuter van operation? The SWOT analysis results show that the commuter van industry is resilient, performs a necessary service, and, with small adjustments that will help reduce operating costs and loss of profits have a chance of thriving in Eastern Queens and the rest of New York City. The study also discusses the mismatch between policy and practice offering recommendations for improvement to ensure that commuter vans continue to serve residents of New York City. / Dissertation/Thesis / Masters Thesis Urban and Environmental Planning 2017

Summer of Tinkering: Sociocultural Views of Children's Learning while Tinkering in Social and Material Worlds

January 2018 (has links)
abstract: As interest in making and STEM learning through making and tinkering continue to rise, understanding the nature, process, and benefits of learning STEM through making have become important topics for research. In addition to understanding the basics of learning through making and tinkering, we need to understand these activities, examine their potential benefits, and find out ways to facilitate such learning experiences for all learners with resources that are readily available. This dissertation is a study of children’s learning while tinkering inspired by the Educational Maker Movement. It is motivated by the projects that children playfully create with broken toys, art and craft resources, and other found objects, and the connections of such activities to learning. Adopting a sociocultural lens this dissertation examines eight to twelve-year-olds’ learning while tinkering in collaboration with friends and family, as well as on their own. Using a case study methodology and studying interactions and transactions between children, materials, tools, and designs this study involves children learning while tinkering over a week-long workshop as well as over the summer in the Southwest. The three hallmarks of this study are, first, an emphasis on sociocultural nature of the development of tinkering projects; second, an emphasis on meaning making while tinkering with materials, tools, and design, and problem-solving; and third, an examination of the continuation of tinkering using newly acquired tools and skills beyond the duration of the workshop. In doing so, this dissertation contributes to the ongoing discussion of children’s playful tinkering, how and why it counts as learning, and STEM learning associated with tinkering. Implications for future learning and the ways in which tinkering connects to children’s everyday fabric of activities are considered. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Learning, Literacies and Technologies 2018

Analyzing Digital Literacy Demands, Practices, and Discourses within a Library Computer Programming Club for Children

January 2018 (has links)
abstract: Among researchers, educators, and other stakeholders in literacy education, there has been a growing emphasis on developing literacy pedagogies that are more responsive to the ways young people experience literacy in their everyday lives, which often make use of digital media and other technologies for exchanging meaning. This dissertation project sought to explore the nature of these digital-age literacies in the context of children learning through and about new technologies. Conducting a year-long, multimethod observational study of an out-of-school library-based program designed to engage students in self-directed learning around the domain of computer programming, this project was framed around an analysis of digital-age literacies in design, discourse, and practice. To address each of these areas, the project developed a methodology grounded in interpretive, naturalistic, and participant-observation methodologies in collaboration with a local library Code Club in a metropolitan area of the Southwestern U.S between September 2016 and December 2017. Participants in the project included a total of 47 students aged 8-14, 3 librarians, and 3 parents. Data sources for the project included (1) artifactual data, such as the designed interfaces of the online platforms students regularly engaged with, (2) observational data such as protocol-based field notes taken during and after each Code Club meeting, and (3) interview data, collected during qualitative interviews with students, parents, and library facilitators outside the program. These data sources were analyzed through a multi-method interpretive framework, including the multimodal analysis of digital artifacts, qualitative coding, and discourse analysis. The findings of the project illustrate the multidimensional nature of digital-age literacy experiences as they are rendered “on the screen” at the content level, “behind the screen” at the procedural level, and “beyond the screen” at the contextual level. The project contributes to the literature on literacy education by taking an multi-method, interdisciplinary approach to expand analytical perspectives on digital media and literacy in a digital age, while also providing an empirical account of this approach in a community-embedded context of implementation. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Learning, Literacies and Technologies 2018
