This qualitative study was aimed at developing an understanding of how persons involved in the investigation or deliberation of child abuse and neglect cases think and feel about the process of weighing evidence and drawing conclusions from it. Twenty investigators, supervisors, and administrators employed by the Child Protective Services agency in Texas were asked to describe cases they had investigated or reviewed that had been particularly difficult because of conflicting or ambiguous evidence. They were also asked opinion questions about the agency's actuarial risk assessment instrument and the concept of preponderance of evidence. Finally, participants were asked to respond to two short case vignettes describing allegations of sexual abuse. Constant comparative and narrative analysis of interview data revealed that the process of case deliberation in CPS makes use of both intuitive and analytic decision-making styles, and there is a general movement from intuition to analysis as a case ascends the decision-making hierarchy. This movement entails a shift from narrative forms of thought and an outcome-oriented ethic to analytic forms of thought and a rule-based ethic. Though intuitive decision making is at least partly guided from personal experience and personal values, and does produce error because of that, it is nonetheless a form of rationality as capable of being guided by scrupulousness and fidelity to truth as analysis is. The personal value and outcome-oriented ethic that intuition brings to the decision making process not only cannot be eliminated, it is necessary to the program's achievement of its mission. It is recommended that the training of new investigators should, first, acknowledge the large role that intuitive thinking plays in CPS decision making and, second, develop ways to help decision makers discipline intuition, in the words of one participant, and to create conditions that foster its optimal functioning.

Lietuva pagal eismo įvykių skaičių yra pirmaujanti Europos sąjungos valstybė ir nors Lietuvoje eismo įvykių skaičius mažėja, vėl pastebimas įprastinių rodiklių „grįžimas“. Lietuva yra vienintelė Europos Sąjungos šalis, kurioje kasmet eismo įvykiuose žūva daugiau kaip 200 žmonių vienam mln. gyventojų. Taigi eismo įvykių tyrimas yra aktuali tema ir teoriniu, ir praktiniu pobūdžiu. Šiame darbe pateikta eismo įvykių baudžiamoji teisinė bei kriminalistinė charakteristika, eismo įvykių kriminalistinė charakteristika ir tyrimo praktika Utenos apskrityje ir eismo įvykių tyrimo ir prevencijos tobulinimo kryptys. Darbe nagrinėjamos teorinės ir praktinės problemos, su kuriomis susiduria pareigūnai tirdami eismo įvykius. Išnagrinėjus visus ikiteisminius tyrimus, pradėtus dėl eismo įvykių ir išanalizavus 100 apklausos anketų, kurias užpildė Utenos apskrities policijos komisariatų pareigūnai ir Utenos apskrities prokuratūrų prokurorai, darbe pateikiama eismo įvykių, įvykusių Utenos apskrityje, kriminalistinė charakteristika, nurodomi neigiami veiksniai, įtakojantys eismo įvykių tyrimą Utenos apskrityje. Baigiamojo darbo pagrindinė išvada - eismo įvykių tyrimo praktika Utenos apskrityje nėra vienoda ir neigiamai įtakoja eismo įvykių tyrimą. Eismo įvykių tyrimo praktiką Utenos apskrityje reikia vienodinti, o eismo įvykių tyrimą pavesti viešosios policijos padaliniams. / By the number of traffic accidents Lithuania takes the leading position among the European Union countries. Although the number of traffic accidents in Lithuania is declining, usual rates are observed to return. Lithuania is the only EU country where over 200 persons per one million of the population get killed in traffic accidents every year. Therefore investigation of traffic accidents is a relevant topic both in the theoretical and practical aspect. The thesis describes traffic accidents in terms of criminal law and criminology, discusses criminological characteristics of traffic accidents and investigation practice in Utena County and indicates the directions for improvement of investigation and prevention of traffic accidents.

Consequences of refusing to participate in the criminal investigation or protective measures A quantitative study within a group of women assessed for risk of future intimate partner violence victimization Josefin Niit and Lisa Norrbin Abstract Intimate partner violence [IPV] is a global issue and IPV towards women have received increased attention during the last decades. The police perform a vital task in supporting victims of IPV and providing protective measures to prevent further violence. Some victims refuse to participate in the criminal investigation or protective measures, which can have consequences for the judicial process or the risk of future victimization. The aim of the present study was to investigate the consequences of refusing to participate in the criminal investigation or protective measures within a group of women assessed for risk of future IPV victimization. A quantitative approach was applied to compare women who refused to participate against women who participated. The sample consisted of 207 cases which were assessed with SARA:SV in the police county of Södertörn. The results demonstrated that when women refused to participate in the criminal investigation the cases were 6.2 times less likely prosecuted. Women who refused to participate in the protective measures were repeatedly victimized to the same amount, even though they in comparison were a lower risk group. However, these women were 4 times more likely victims of assault when repeatedly victimized. Findings from the current study provide useful knowledge about consequences for women who refuse to participate in the criminal investigation or protective measures and enables practical solutions for agents of the judicial system to further help these women. The Long Division is a novel that applies some conventions and tropes of the noir fiction genre to tell a story from the points of view of five individuals whose fates are interconnected through the narrative. He strikes up a desperate relationship with Erika Hartwick, Sam Harwick’s legitimate daughter, just as Sam’s illegitimate son Calvin and one-time lover Jodie arrive in town and instigate a climactic confrontation between all the perspective characters. The novel explores the value of family and how it can be tested by extreme circumstances, especially in paradoxical or ironic context where family is founded on, or broken apart by, characters flaws that threaten the stability of family itself. Likewise, it explores whether certain family relationships can or should be repaired, and the motives and morality of individuals when they support or subvert family dynamics.

Šiame darbe projektuojamas, bei analizuojamas atkirtimo įrenginys, skirtas stiklo audinio ruošiniams atkirsti. Darbo tikslas sumodeliuoti atkirtimo įrenginį, tai pat patikrinti to konstrukcijos elementų patvarumą. Darbo eigoje buvo apžvelgta panašųs įrengimai, bei atskiri jų elementai. Pasirinkta atkirtimo įrenginio konstrukcija buvo sumodeliuota erdvinio modeliavimo programiniu paketu. Tai pat buvo atliktas eksperimentas, norint nustatyti reikalingas jėgas sklandžiam atkirtimo įrenginio darbui. Sumodeliuotų detalių patvarumas buvo patikrintas programiniu paketu, kuris paremtas baigtinių belementų metodu. Atkirtimo surinkimas buvo patikrinti automatizuoto projrktavimo programa. Remiantis tyrimo rezultatais galima pagaminti tikrą gaminį. / The press for cuting fiberglass was created and examined in this paper. The main paper aim was to make a press model and to examine the endurance of the construction elements. In this paper were analyzed the constructions of similar mechanisms and separates parts as well. The schame of the transmission and sll construcion was made. The chosen construction was modulated by CAD safware. The experiment was executed on purpose to determine the proper forces for fluent work of the press. The endurance of the modulated parts of press was examined with programming packet, which is based upon the method of finite elements. The assemblage of cuting press and movements of the work were verified by programa f automated design. The real press for cuting fiberglass can be produced occording the results this examination.

Magistro darbe nagrinėjami reklamos samprata, tikslai ir funkcijos. Analizuojami reklamos poveikio metodai ir elementai, reklamos strategija, išskiriami reklamos sudarymo ypatumai, reklamos sprendimų efektyvumo rūšys. Darbe pateikiama reklamos sprendimų efektyvumo vertinimo tyrimo metodika. Tiriamoje darbo dalyje pateikiami AB „Venta“ reklamos sprendimų efektyvumo tyrimo rezultatai bei jų analizė. Atlikto tyrimo rezultatai parodė, kad įmonė dažnai dalyvauja parodose, po kurių įmonės užsakymų kiekis padidėja 20 proc., bei atsiranda naujas klientų ratas. Reklaminė kampanija veiksminga ir efektyvi tada, kai yra rūpestingai parengta ir suplanuota. Sudarant reklaminės kampanijos planą svarbiausias dalykas – tinkamai parinkti reklamos priemones. Renkantis priemones reklaminei informacijai perduoti, būtina išsiaiškinti, kaip vartotojai vertina, tai yra koks yra jų požiūris į atskiras reklamos priemones. Taigi įmonės greta savo atliekamų tyrimų vartotojų pirkimo įpročių ir pan., turėtų įtraukti ir vartotojų požiūrio tyrimus. / Master's work dealt with the concept of advertising, the objectives and functions. Analyzing the impact of advertising methods and elements of advertising strategy, the distinction between advertising features, types of advertising effectiveness solutions. The paper presents solutions of the effectiveness of the advertising research methodology. Concerned in the work presented AB "Venta" advertising solutions of the effectiveness of the results and their analysis. Survey results showed that the company frequently takes part in exhibitions, in which the company's orders increased by 20 percent, and new customers. The advertising campaign is effective and efficient if it is carefully prepared and planned. The conclusion of the advertising campaign plan for the most important thing - to choose the proper means of advertising. The selection of promotional measures for transmission of information is necessary to clarify how users value, that is, what is their approach to individual advertising tools. Thus, in addition to undertaking its own investigations carried out by consumer buying habits and so on. Should be included research and consumer attitudes.

Aptiktų defektų pritaikymas kvantiniams duomenų apdorojimams. / In this work I trying describe, nitrogen – vacancy (NV) defects in different types of diamonds and how protonation changing the structural properties of diamond. How carbon onion like centers in diamond after irradiation by protons changed the conductivity of samples. The optical and spin relaxation properties of these samples were characterized using optical microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and electron paramagnetic resonance. Also I try to explain how we can use NV defects for creation of qubit, the data for quantum computing ant quantum computers.
